Chapter 2 - I know that voice

He calmed down and let them drag him across the hall.

He was brought into a white room. It looked as if it was endless. An infinite room that had nothing but a white sky and empy floor.

There were only two chairs facinng each other at the center of the room. They sat him on one of them.

They released Neo from their grasps. And when he turned around, the guards had disappeared.

There was nobody there. When he turned his head forward again. He gasped.

There was someone in front of him sitting on the other chair.

She was wearing a suit and tie. It was dark blue. And her tie had a mirror-like shine on it. She had white hair. And looked like a French white woman he would see in the movies.

"Hello. Neo. I am Marthica Nollifix. I'm a lawyer. Just like you," she said.

"A lawyer. Lawyer. Are you my lawyer?"

"Yes. And No. I'm a lawyer. But I'm not your lawyer. You are your own lawyer. Well, technically everyone in the world is a lawyer."

"Huh? That doesn't make any sense. I'm still a law student. I haven't even passed the bar yet."

"It will eventually. I'm here to help you sign a contract. The LCG Contract," she smiled. "Don't worry. Everyone has to sign the exact same contract. You don't need to worry about it. It's like clicking the 'I agree to the terms and conditions' button in games you used to play. Have you ever actually read those in full?"

"Game?" Neo mumbled in confusion.

"I won't be the one to explain that to you. The game will explain itself. Here sign this."

She opened up her hand and a floating digital paper appeared. It was a screen with a contract on it.

She grabbed it and handed it to him like a normal piece of paper. But it was scrollable.

Neo held it in his hand and he could feel its texture. He tried scrolling it down to end.

One thing I've learned about contracts is that you have to read everything.

He tried to scroll to the bottom, but it was endless. And he could not understand the language.

"There is no point in reading the contract. Just sign it already," she said annoyed. "You can use your finger to sign at the bottom part."

"Fuck off! I'm not signing anything unless I know what the hell I'm getting myself into."

Marthica pulled a gun on Neo. She aimed right at his forehead.

"Listen, if you don't sign that contract. Something worse than the bullet in this gun is going to take hold of you."

"Why should I believe you?" Neo asked.

"Because I signed it too." She flicked her fingers. And her own signed contract appeared. "Signing that contract means you get to play the Lawyer's Card Game. And that means you get to exist. You get to live. You get to stay."

Neo had two choices. And he would never know the end of each choice. But one thing was for sure. He still wanted to see his family and his girlfriend. He wanted to know if they were okay. And he wouldn't be able to do that if he dies here by her gun.

He signed the bottom of the paper with his index finger, and it pricked him. His blood spilled over the paper. And it glowed and wrapped itself around his left arm.

Did I just fuck up and signed a bad contract?
