Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Destroying Conan's Plan

"Ah, are you talking about Shinichi?" Conan looked at Hanyu Nan, deliberately showing a hint of joy in his eyes. "Shinichi and I are relatives! I've always admired Shinichi! But, I heard from Professor Agasa that Shinichi seems to be handling an important case."

Conan said this while retreating a few steps.

Hanyu Nan's face showed surprise at Conan's answer: "Is that so? So you're relatives! No wonder you look so alike." As he spoke, he stood up and approached Conan step by step, a strange light flickering in his eyes.

With Conan's face full of panic, Hanyu Nan suddenly reached out and vigorously ruffled Conan's hair. He had wanted to do this to Conan's head ever since he watched the anime.

Professor Agasa, who was following behind, saw this and quickly stepped forward, taking over Hanyu Nan's topic, trying to help Conan out of the situation: "Haha, that's right, this little guy Conan is indeed related to Shinichi. He's temporarily staying at my house recently, and just now he saw me rushing over, so he followed along."

"Yes, yes..." Conan finally managed to break free from Hanyu Nan's grasp, secretly sighing in relief, and gratefully glanced at Professor Agasa.

Ran also noticed that the child in front of her was very similar to Shinichi when he was young, but after hearing Professor Agasa's words, she didn't think too much about it.

"Professor, if you receive another call from Shinichi, please be sure to remind him to send me a message," Ran instructed the Professor gently.

Hearing Ran's concern for him, Conan quickly tugged at Professor Agasa's sleeve, then put on a childish and cute voice to ask: "Big sister is so pretty! Can I live with big sister?"

Although Professor Agasa didn't know the intention behind Conan's actions, he still chose to echo: "That's right, Ran, you know, I'm usually so careless that I can't even take care of myself, let alone an extra child. So, could I trouble you, Ran..."

Seeing that the kid Conan had the idea of living with Ran, Hanyu Nan spoke up in time to stop him.

After all, coming along this time was not only to gain favor with Ran, but more importantly, to prevent this perverted brat from successfully moving into the Mouri household.

Before Professor Agasa could finish speaking, Hanyu Nan interrupted in time:

"Ran is only a high school student. Asking her to take care of a child, isn't that too much to ask? Why not trouble Professor Agasa instead."

After saying that, Hanyu Nan lowered his head, his gaze falling on Conan, and said with a teasing tone: "Little friend, don't just casually stay at a stranger's house, you never know, they might be a bad guy and sell you off!"

Facing Hanyu Nan's strange expression, Conan felt a sudden, inexplicable panic and could only force a few dry laughs.

According to the original plot development, Ran was actually not very willing to take care of Conan, but due to Professor Agasa's persistent pleading, coupled with Ran's kind personality, she found it difficult to refuse and had to agree to the request.

However, with Hanyu Nan's intervention this time, the situation changed. Ran took the opportunity to follow his words and said:

"I'm really sorry, Professor. You know, I usually have to look after my father and also be busy with classes, so I really don't have any extra energy to take care of Conan."

After being rejected by Ran, Professor Agasa was speechless, not knowing what to say next. He silently lowered his head, meeting Conan's eyes, and the scene became quite awkward.

Conan was about to say something more when he heard Hanyu Nan say: "It's already so late. Since it's confirmed that Kudo is fine and just busy with a case, then Ran, let's go back early."

After that, he also glanced at his watch, indicating that it was indeed getting late.

"Oh, okay."

Ran nodded somewhat dejectedly, then turned to Professor Agasa and said, "Father must be nagging again. Professor Agasa, then we'll be leaving. If Shinichi calls, please be sure to have him send me a message."

Then, she waved goodbye to Professor Agasa and left with Hanyu Nan.

Watching Ran and Hanyu Nan gradually walk away, Professor Agasa and Conan exchanged glances, their faces filled with confusion.

After they had walked far away, Conan reached out to tidy his hair, which Hanyu Nan had ruffled, his gaze still fixed on the two figures ahead, his heart turbulent and restless.

"Professor, do you think with this guy's intelligence, he really didn't recognize me?" Conan asked, frowning thoughtfully.

"Hmm? No way... I only barely guessed you were Shinichi because you gave me so many hints!" Professor Agasa's eyes widened, showing an expression of disbelief.

"Is that so?" Conan murmured to himself, seemingly not entirely convinced by the Professor's words... Hanyu Nan was very pleased to have successfully teased Conan and satisfied his mischievous streak.

After leaving the Kudo house, he walked side by side with Ran on the road, feeling exceptionally cheerful.

"Thank you so much, Nan-kun, this time. Since I know Shinichi is fine, I'll head back now."

Ran said softly, and at the same time, she bowed slightly to Hanyu Nan, expressing her gratitude.

Hanyu Nan's gaze was involuntarily drawn to her; the young girl in front of him had an graceful figure, and her bow appeared even more elegant and dignified.

He secretly sighed in his heart: Hmm, that bow is so beautiful and so fair... Oh no, that posture is so standard!

Hanyu Nan quickly shook his head, silently reciting 'my sin, my sin' a few times in his heart, trying to cast the distracting thoughts out of his mind. Then he quickly reached out to support Ran, smiling as he said, "Don't be polite, it's no trouble at all. What's with 'trouble' between friends!"

Ran smiled at his words. She straightened up and nodded slightly in agreement. "That's right, we are friends."

Hanyu Nan looked at the time and realized it was very late. "It's already so dark, I should still walk you home. It's not safe to walk alone at night."

Ran was a little surprised and quickly waved her hand: "Ah, no need, my house is very close to here, you don't need to trouble Nan."

Hanyu Nan, however, insisted, his attitude very sincere: "It's fine, how can I let such a cute girl walk alone at night? Don't worry, I will safely escort you home." As he spoke, he had already stepped forward, signaling Ran to follow.

Noticing Ran's unconscious shift to a more intimate way of addressing him, Hanyu Nan decided to step up his efforts.

Seeing Hanyu Nan's insistence on walking her home, Ran could only nod gently in agreement.

She silently walked behind Hanyu Nan, but another matter couldn't help but come to mind.

That guy, Shinichi Kudo, that always self-important idiot, actually made her go look for him alone so late at night, and he still hadn't called her back! As soon as she thought of this, Ran's mood became a little sad and hurt.
