Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Understanding

Recap: As Devour overwhelms Adam and kidnaps Eve, Genesis finally steps onto the battlefield. Rather than defeating Devour outright, Genesis uses the encounter to teach Adam the true meaning of strength and control, explaining that magic is born from imagination, but can only flourish when the mind remains calm. While Devour desperately unleashes one overwhelming attack after another, Genesis effortlessly neutralizes every assault without ever losing his composure, proving that true strength lies not in overwhelming power—but in complete control over oneself.

As the lesson comes to an end, Genesis reminds Devour that although he claims to control the Candy Cosmos, he has forgotten who created it in the first place. With a single step, Genesis transforms the distorted battlefield into a beautiful divine garden, demonstrating that creation will always surpass corruption.

Setting: God Of Creation

Genesis (with a relieved smile):

"Nowww… that looks wayyyy much better than before."

(He glances toward Adam and Yu.)

"Don't you think?"

Adam (with a calm but amazed expression):

"Father dispersed all of the Time Eaters…"

"…with just a single step."

"Amazing…"

Adam turns toward Yu—

Only to notice that Yu's entire appearance has changed.

His candy-themed outfit has become one woven from flowers, vines, and nature itself.

Adam (confused):

"Ummm…"

"What happened to your candy outfit?"

Yu looks down at himself before smiling.

Yu (calmly):

"Oh."

"That makes sense."

Adam (confused):

"What makes sense?"

Yu kneels down, placing a hand against the grass.

Yu (with a calm expression):

"The Maxes and I are connected to the realm itself."

"So whenever the realm changes…"

"…we change with it."

He slowly raises his hand.

Vines burst from the ground.

Flowers bloom all around them.

Yu (smiling):

"Pretty cool, huh?"

Adam nods.

Adam (calmly):

"That's definitely a useful ability."

He looks toward Genesis.

"…Father's fighting style is so calm."

"It's like he never wastes a single movement."

"…His emotions aren't even visible."

Adam lowers his head.

"I wish I could fight like that."

"But instead…"

"…I let my emotions overwhelm me."

"And I lost control of my magic."

Yu closes his eyes.

His expression becomes completely serious.

Yu (calmly):

"Is that truly what you see, Adam?"

Adam (confused):

"Yeah."

"Did I miss something?"

Yu:

"A big miss."

Adam blinks.

Adam (surprised):

"Huhhhhh?"

"What did I miss?"

"Please… explain."

Yu slowly opens his eyes and looks toward Genesis.

Yu (softly):

"I can't."

"It's something…"

"…you have to see for yourself."

Adam (confused):

"But I've been watching the whole time."

Yu:

"Look deeper."

"…Into Father's spirit."

Adam focuses.

Genesis is smiling peacefully as he gently smells one of the flowers growing in the garden.

At first—

Adam sees nothing unusual.

Only Genesis' brilliant imagination shining brightly.

Adam (confused):

"Nothing is out of the ordinary."

"Father still looks happy…"

"…and cheerful."

Yu doesn't look away.

Yu (calmly):

"Deeper."

Adam concentrates once more.

This time—

He sees it.

His eyes widen.

His breathing stops.

Hidden beneath Genesis' cheerful spirit…

Lies an overwhelming rage.

An anger so immense it blankets his entire spirit—

Yet never once reaches his imagination.

Adam (shocked):

"Father…"

"He's been angry…"

"…this whole time…"

Genesis' inner rage surges endlessly throughout his spirit.

But his imagination remains perfectly clear.

Not clouded.

Not shaken.

Not even for a moment.

Flowers slowly bloom from Yu's hand.

Yu (calmly):

"Father's control over his emotions…"

"…is what makes him so powerful."

"I wish I had learned that sooner."

"Instead…"

"I charged into battle blinded by my anger."

"I couldn't forgive myself for failing to protect Eve."

"But Father's control…"

"…is truly godly."

Adam continues staring at Genesis.

Adam (softly):

"Father always smiles…"

"So seeing this side of him…"

"…feels strange."

"But…"

"I think I finally understand."

"The lesson Father has been trying to teach me…"

"…is one I'll never forget."

Yu smiles slightly.

Yu:

"And what lesson is that?"

Adam smiles with determination.

Adam:

"It's okay for me to love Eve with all my heart."

"It's okay for me to smile."

"To get angry."

"To feel sad."

"To love my family…"

"…and protect them with everything I have."

"But…"

"No matter what I'm feeling…"

"I have to keep my mind calm."

"And never let my imagination stop flowing."

Suddenly—

A brilliant golden light erupts from Adam's body.

The Book of Genesis emerges from the light alongside his feather pen.

Adam catches them both.

He looks toward Genesis.

Adam (smiling):

"Thank you…"

"Father."

"And thank you as well…"

"…Yu."

Yu smiles.

Yu:

"No problem."

Genesis glances back.

Without saying a word—

He simply smiles…

…and gives Adam a thumbs-up.

Adam nods.

He opens the Book of Genesis.

Adam (serious):

"Writing Magic Spell Technique."

He begins writing.

"Take me to where Eve is located."

A brilliant golden light surrounds his body.

FWOOSHHHH—

Adam disappears.

Yu watches the light fade.

A small smile forms across his face.

Yu (softly):

"Adam…"

"Now I understand why Eve has such deep affection for you."

Yu immediately contacts the Maxes through telepathy.

Yu (serious):

"Maxes."

"Adam is headed your way."

A frantic voice immediately answers.

Max 1 (panicking):

"THANK THE LORDDDDDDD!!"

"THESE TIME EATERS ARE GETTING MORE AGGRESSIVE BY THE MINUTEEEEEEE!!"

"IT'S GETTING HARD TO PROTECT EVEEEEEEE!!!"

Yu's expression remains calm.

Yu:

"Don't worry."

"Just keep doing your best."

"This will all be over soon."

All Maxes:

"YES SIRRRRRRRR!!!"

Back in the newly restored garden, Genesis and Devour stood facing one another.

The once-distorted Candy Cosmos had become a peaceful landscape overflowing with flowers, towering trees, rolling hills, and gentle streams. Butterflies drifted lazily through the breeze as if the battle that had just taken place had never happened.

Genesis looked around with a cheerful smile.

Genesis (with a cheerful smile):

"Now…"

"I think it's time to take a little break."

Devour stared at him in disbelief.

Devour (confused):

"…A break?"

"What… are you serious?"

Without the slightest concern, Genesis calmly walked over to a large stone surrounded by colorful flowers and dozens of butterflies.

He sat down comfortably.

Picking a nearby flower, he brought it close to his face and took a deep breath.

A huge smile spread across his face.

Genesis (smiling):

"THAT SMELLS SO GOOOOODDDDD!!"

His golden eyes wandered across the beautiful landscape surrounding him.

Everywhere he looked…

Life.

Flowers swayed peacefully in the wind.

Butterflies danced through the air.

Small creatures wandered curiously through the garden.

Genesis' eyes sparkled with excitement.

Genesis (shocked with excitement):

"Wowwwww!!"

"These new creatures look soooo coooolllll!!"

"I can't wait to show Kail!"

"Oooooooo…"

"I should pick some flowers for her."

"I'm sure she'd like that."

Genesis began gently rocking back and forth on the stone like an excited child.

Genesis (happily):

"I can't waittttttt…"

Devour's entire body trembled.

Not from fear.

From frustration.

His fists clenched tightly.

His distorted energy pulsed uncontrollably.

Devour (furious):

"I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOUUUUUUU!!!"

"WHY ARE YOU SO HAPPY…"

"…WHEN YOU'RE BURNING WITH RAGE?!?!"

"YOU SHOULD WANT TO DESTROY MEEEEEE!!!"

"OR…"

"DO YOU THINK I WON'T ATTACK YOU JUST BECAUSE YOU HIT ME A FEW TIMES?!"

"WELL…"

"YOU'RE DEAD WRONGGGGGGG!!!"

Genesis doesn't even look at him.

Instead…

He suddenly notices a small white bunny hopping through the flowers.

His eyes immediately light up.

Genesis:

"OHHHHHH!!!"

He happily chases after it through the field before gently scooping it into his arms.

The little bunny wiggles happily as Genesis softly pets its head.

A warm smile appears across his face.

Genesis (smiling while petting the bunny):

"IT'S SO CUTEEEEEEEEEEE!!"

"Eve would absolutely LOVE this little guy."

He continues petting the bunny for another moment before finally looking toward Devour.

His smile never leaves his face.

Genesis (calmly):

"Oh…"

"And I know you're going to attack me."

"But…"

"Your instincts are telling you not to."

"They're telling you to run away."

He tilts his head slightly.

Genesis (smiling):

"…Am I right?"

Devour's entire body remained frozen.

No matter how desperately he struggled—

His body refused to obey him.

His muscles trembled violently as panic slowly replaced his rage.

Devour (with a frozen expression):

"I…"

"I don't understand…"

"Why won't my body move…?"

"I should've adapted far beyond this by now…"

"I'M SUPPOSED TO BE THE PERFECT CREATUREEEEEEE!!!"

Genesis simply smiled.

Not mockingly.

Almost sympathetically.

Genesis (with a soft expression):

"Actually…"

"You're imperfect."

"And that's exactly what allows you to keep adapting."

"To keep growing."

He glances at Devour's new humanoid form.

Genesis (thoughtfully):

"Honestly…"

"Your growth has been amazing."

"You went from nothing more than a small purple-and-black orb…"

"…to developing a complete body in such a short amount of time."

"I've been genuinely curious to watch your evolution."

Devour grits his teeth.

His frustration continues building.

Devour (angered):

"Oh, save your pity for someone else!"

"The longer this battle continues…"

"…the more I'll continue evolving!"

Genesis casually walks back toward the large stone.

With a flick of his finger, a small fluffy cloud appears.

He places it on top of the rock like a pillow before comfortably resting his head against it.

Closing his eyes, he speaks as though they were having an ordinary conversation.

Genesis (calmly):

"Yeah…"

"With a body that won't even move…"

"…let's see how far you get."

A small smile appears on his face.

Genesis:

"But instead of fighting your instincts…"

"…you should probably listen to them."

He opens one eye.

Genesis:

"And besides…"

"You haven't evolved even once since I entered the picture."

"Do you know why?"

Devour freezes.

His thoughts begin racing.

Devour (thinking):

"…What…?"

"I…"

"I didn't even notice…"

"I haven't evolved…"

"…ever since he stopped my blade…"

Genesis quietly nods.

Genesis (calmly):

"It's because you can't adapt to something…"

"…you don't understand."

"Your evolution analyzes your opponent."

"Their fighting style."

"Their abilities."

"Their energy."

"You even consume that energy to make it your own."

He shrugs.

"I could keep going."

"But against me…"

"…you can't get a single read."

He smiles.

Genesis:

"And if Kail were standing here instead…"

"…it would be exactly the same."

A small laugh escapes him.

Genesis:

"Honestly…"

"You're lucky she isn't."

"She wouldn't be nearly as patient as I am."

Devour lowers his head.

His voice grows quieter.

Almost defeated.

Devour (frustrated):

"You're right…"

"I can't understand you."

"So why don't you just destroy me?"

"Get it over with."

"…Aren't you angry?"

Genesis slowly sits upright on the stone.

His eyes open.

The warmth in them never disappears.

Genesis (with a soft smile):

"Of course I'm angry."

"I'm furious."

"So furious…"

"…that part of me wants to throw you and every other Time Eater straight into a burning sun…"

"…for everything you've done to my family."

He pauses.

"But…"

"I have my reasons."

"And there's no point explaining all of them to you right now."

FWOOSHHHH—

Genesis suddenly disappears.

Before Devour can react—

Genesis is already standing directly in front of him.

Without hesitation—

He calmly thrusts his hand straight through Devour's chest.

Devour (crying out):

"AGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

"W-What…?"

"How did…"

"…you know…?"

Genesis slowly withdraws his hand.

Clutched within it…

…is a rotten tree branch.

He studies it curiously.

Genesis (smiling):

"If I truly wanted you gone…"

"…I would've done that a long time ago."

"But this…"

He looks toward Adam's direction.

"…is a wonderful opportunity for my family to grow."

"So I'm more than willing to use you to help them become stronger."

Genesis tilts his head as he continues examining the branch.

Genesis (thinking aloud):

"Hmmmm…"

"Maybe one day…"

"I can even redirect those instincts of yours toward something better."

"Oh well…"

"I'll think about that another time."

Genesis continues looking at the branch.

Genesis (confused):

"Hmm…"

"What's this thing?"

"The moment I pulled it out…"

"…your growth stopped."

He shrugs.

Genesis:

"Eh."

"Not my problem anymore."

He casually tosses the branch aside.

The rotten branch lands among the flowers.

Devour immediately drags himself toward it.

Every movement is slow.

Painful.

Desperate.

Devour (struggling):

"I…"

"…NEED…"

"…THAT…"

"…BY ANY MEANS…"

He grabs the branch.

Without hesitation—

He absorbs it back into his body.

Instantly—

His breathing steadies.

Life returns to his eyes.

Genesis quietly watches.

A small smirk forms across his face.

Genesis (smirking):

"Don't be discouraged, Devour."

"I'm not the one who's going to defeat you."

"My children are."

"So…"

"Keep evolving."

"Keep growing."

"And keep following your instincts."

"Because you're going to need every bit of that evolution…"

"…if you want to stand against them."

He smiles.

Genesis:

"So…"

"Go wild."

Genesis raises one finger.

A tiny white beam of Yang Energy shoots forward.

It gently enters Devour's body.

Rather than harming him—

It restores and strengthens him.

Devour's eyes immediately widen.

His distorted energy erupts more violently than ever before.

Devour (powering up):

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

"THIS FEELS AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG!!!"

Genesis smiles.

Then…

He slowly turns toward Yu.

Genesis smiles before looking toward Yu.

Genesis (smiling):

"Well…"

"I think I can leave this in your hands now, Yu."

"You've been so eager to fight."

"So…"

"You won't mind if I give you a little more of a challenge, right?"

Yu grips the handle of his sword.

His eyes never leave Devour.

Yu (with a determined expression):

"Not at all."

"He will pay…"

"…for taking Eve."

Genesis nods approvingly before beginning to walk away.

Almost as if he suddenly remembered something—

He glances back over his shoulder.

Genesis (casually):

"Oh."

"And I guess that rotten tree branch is his core."

"So…"

"Destroy it…"

"…and see what happens."

"Got it?"

Yu slowly draws his Nature Sword.

The moment the blade leaves its sheath—

His emerald aura expands throughout the garden.

Flowers sway.

Leaves dance through the air.

The peaceful garden itself seems to answer his resolve.

Yu calmly raises his sword toward Devour.

Yu (with a serious expression):

"I'll end this quickly."

Genesis smiles.

Satisfied.

Genesis (with a cheerful smile):

"Cool!"

"Then I'm gonna stop by Chrona's realm and see what's going on over there."

"Oh…"

"And feel free to change the realm whenever you want."

"You can switch between any of the three realms we've created."

"So…"

"Have fun."

FWOOSHHHH—

Genesis shoots into the sky before disappearing beyond the clouds.

Silence settles over the garden.

Only Yu…

…and Devour remain.

A twisted smile slowly spreads across Devour's face.

His confidence begins returning.

His distorted energy leaks into the air once again.

Devour (with a cocky smirk):

"Well…"

"What exactly do you hope to accomplish…"

"…without your father?"

Yu doesn't even flinch.

His grip on his sword tightens.

His expression remains calm.

Unshaken.

Yu (calmly):

"Oh…"

"Look who's gained his confidence back."

He slowly raises his sword.

A faint smirk appears across his face.

Yu:

"…How sad."

Devour's smile instantly disappears.

His distorted energy erupts violently throughout the garden.

Devour (furious):

"WHYYYYYY YOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!"

Yu simply stands there.

Sword in hand.

His determination unwavering.

His eyes locked onto Devour.

The battle…

…was about to begin.
