Chapter 35 - Chapter 7: The First Shattering – (Part IV: The Continent That Split Open)

Antarctica was supposed to be silent.

But tonight, the ice screamed.

Dr. David Green stood on the ridge above Base Argos, breath freezing in the air as the ground trembled beneath his boots. Instruments were going haywire, alarms blaring from every portable lab, dogs howling in their kennels.

The auroras overhead twisted unnaturally — spirals, branching patterns, fractal arcs — reflecting the same images David had seen in his DNA scans.

Something alive.

Something ancient.

Something with a structure like roots.

His earpiece crackled violently before going dead.

"Satellite link lost," one technician yelled, panic rising.

"All comms failing— what is—"

The ground roared.

---

1. THE CONTINENT BREAKS

A fissure tore across the ice shelf.

Not a crack —

a continent-wide wound.

The ground split open with a thunderclap that sent snow flying like a white explosion. The rift raced forward, miles long, revealing a massive canyon beneath the frozen surface.

But the bottom didn't show rock.

It glowed.

A pulsating, vein-like network of black roots throbbed under the ice, radiating in perfect geometric arcs — like a neural map of the Earth itself.

David staggered to the edge, horrified.

"No… no, this can't be…"

The roots pulsed once.

The sky flickered.

For a single second — one that satellites caught before dying — the entire southern pole lit up like a beating heart.

---

2. THE DNA IMPOSSIBILITY

David sprinted to his temporary genomics cabin, snowstorm blasting behind him. Inside, screens were flickering, overloaded by electromagnetic surges.

He pulled up the last sample he'd been analyzing — the black ice filament extracted from the buried chamber.

The sequence on screen was changing.

Evolving.

"I'm not even running analysis…" he whispered. "This is impossible."

The letters of the genetic code rearranged themselves, forming patterns that were not random.

Not biological.

They were writing.

A message.

A command.

David's hands shook as he printed the results. The page slid out of the machine, still warm.

He stared.

"The roots... existed before microbial life…" he whispered.

"Before plants. Before oxygen. Before Earth stabilized. Before—"

The power died.

The cabin went black.

But the paper in his hand kept glowing.

And then—

The voice spoke again.

---

3. THE VOICE THAT BREAKS REALITY

Not in his ears.

Not in the air.

Inside his mind.

A deep, resonant, cosmic vibration:

"WITNESSES.

THE FIRST SHATTERING BEGINS."

David dropped the paper, falling to his knees as the world around him dimmed. His vision stretched, pulling him through something like a tunnel— a root-tunnel— luminous, organic, infinite.

Then he wasn't in Antarctica anymore.

---

4. THE SHARED VISION (GLOBAL)

All five of them — Jianyu, Lena, Akio, Maya, and David — stood in the same impossible space.

A colossal cavern.

A sky of liquid starlight.

A ground made of glowing roots.

In the center:

A GIANT TREE.

A tree so massive it rose beyond sight, trunk wrapped in twisting galaxies, branches splitting into nebulae, roots spanning across worlds.

Its heartbeat shook the universe.

Standing at its base was a figure in shadow — tall, indistinct, human-shaped but not human.

David heard the whispers of Lena.

The breath of Akio.

Maya's racing heart.

Jianyu gripping the black book.

All five spoke at once, their voices overlapping though miles apart:

"What… are we seeing?"

The tree pulsed.

Reality trembled.

A crack spread across the sky of the vision, like something trying to break through from the other side.

The voice spoke again, louder, clearer:

"THE AWAKENING BEGINS AT THE CORE.

THE ROOTS WILL RISE.

BEAR WITNESS."

Then—

Everything shattered.

---

5. BACK IN ANTARCTICA — AND THE EARTH REACTS

David screamed as he snapped back to his body. The entire continent was shaking violently.

Scientists stumbled across the snow.

Buildings collapsed.

Ice fractured into jagged plates.

The sky pulsed with unnatural light.

The crack beneath David widened again.

A black root — thicker than a skyscraper — surged upward like a living mountain.

Snow blasted into the air.

Wind howled.

Cameras short-circuited.

Drones fell from the sky.

Satellites across the world glitched simultaneously.

From every region of the globe, reports flooded in:

"Ground movement!"

"The oceans are rising!"

"Roots— emerging from the earth!"

David stared, breath trembling, as the colossal root twisted into the open air like a serpent waking from eons of sleep.

"This is it…" he whispered.

"The first shattering…"

The root turned — as if hearing him.

Then the entire planet rumbled.

---

FINAL CHAPTER 7 CLIFFHANGER

A GLOBAL EARTHQUAKE BEGINS.

Roots erupt from the ground across every continent.

The awakening network becomes visible to the entire world.

Humanity finally sees the truth.

The Earth is waking up.

> THE AWAKENING HAS STARTED.
