Chapter 6 - God of Games Ch6

Please subscribe to my P@tre0n at [email protected]/user?u=81303534. There are four tiers and twenty-eight advanced chapters available for anyone that contributes, plus the more I make there the more time I will be able to spend writing. And now I will be publishing a bonus chapter on my P@tre0n once a month, join any tier and you will be able to vote on which story I will add to in addition to my weekly chapter.

Currently I have so many ideas for new stories and directions I want my old stories to go, but I don't have enough time to write them all down. Even a buck will help so please help me out with anything you can. That way I can spend some more time bringing a little more joy to both of our lives.

Starting off was the racing game and like all the other games I was making I combined all the best parts of various games into one. Once I had an outline of the game I used the vast pool of knowledge now stored in the library to add all the details. Thanks to that it didn't take nearly as long as Minecraft but editing it took a little longer than the library to put together.

It would have taken much longer if I needed to learn how each car worked before I could make the garage capable of modifying them. And it wasn't just the cars, I added everything from foot races across rooftops to full on pod racing. I didn't have as much help with anything that wasn't available in the real world but I was able to draw from other sources. Scientists that knew what would work and then fighter pilots for how it would feel to fly one gave me all I needed to know.

But for some of the modes it wasn't just going from point A to point B, there were different levels of violence you could set it to. There were races with no violence, cop chases, cartoonish mario kart races, to full on mad max style chariot races where death was not only possible but likely. It was fun to make and I was able to add some pretty interesting scenarios I wanted to give a try once it was all put together. I also made sure to add something for people that just wanted to enjoy a nice drive in the countryside or to try and fly a plane.

Making sure that people with widely different tastes would enjoy my game was probably the hardest part. That plus deciding how the game currency would work, I mean I don't think the minecraft system would work here, it didn't fit the theme. But after referencing prices in the real world I just invented a currency called a credit and called it good. I also made sure people wouldn't need credits if they just wanted to drive around in a cool car or learn how to sail.

They wouldn't need to buy anything if they just wanted to take a vehicle for a test drive. But if they wanted to participate in the races or even just modify one of the vehicles then they needed to buy it. I didn't want to discriminate against the gearhead that just wanted to spend all day modifying their rides. So I made it so they only needed to pay for the modifications if they wanted them to last outside of the garage.

That way gearheads could work on all the cars they wanted and not have to spend any time racing if they didn't want to. I knew that would lose me some racers but I wasn't like I would get more energy if they decided to race. People only needed to be in the realms for me to get energy, they could play games, interact with new people, or just relax at a cafe. It all provided the same amount of energy. The games were just for fun, people were more likely to spend time here if there was something for them to do.

Providing them with options was just making sure there was something for everyone that might join. Right now there wasn't anything that could affect the real world but the library was the first step into really connecting the two worlds. Someday I hoped they would be two sides of a coin but that was a long way off, for one I didn't even have a real economy yet. Sure I had some game currencies but those were only for things inside each game, I wanted something bigger.

I wanted to have something that would not only stretch from game to game but in the Oasis and eventually even the real world as well. That way everyone would find a game they like and have fun making real money. I hoped that would push humanity into a post-scarcity society, kind of like Star Trek. Where everyone did what they found fun because they didn't need to do anything else.

Once I finished making the racing game and decided on a name I moved onto the next one. I decided to call it Need for Speed as I could steal the name and it fit well for the theme I was going for. I had plenty of time left so I started on the next game, Tinker Tower. It was something I read about in my last life. It was a tower defense game that allowed almost limitless upgrades to technology while defending against hordes of enemies.

This one would have to remain unfinished because I wanted the game to have two different modes. One for tech, which was easy to complete due to all the geniuses I had access to. The other didn't have anything to build off of yet, the magic path, it seemed like people that practiced magic in this world were much more cautious and so far none had joined the game.

That meant I didn't have any magical knowledge to draw from, so until they joined or I was able to figure out a different way it would remain unfinished. But even so the tech path was good enough for now, when I got the requisite knowledge I would be able to update the game and add the second path. After I finished that I noticed I was going to run out of time and wake up soon. But I still wanted to get started on the next game before I woke up, and this one was going to be a bit more complicated.

It was a fighting game and while there were still a lot of people to draw from I was guessing that a lot of people that I could have drawn from didn't join the game. A lot of people that knew how to fight were in the military or some sort of agency and they would be much more cautious than the common man. Then there were the reclusive martial masters that just weren't interested, I was hoping that this game would attract the interest of those battle maniacs.

It would take more than a single day and I needed more than casual martial artists to make the fight game I wanted. So like most of my other games I could start out with a little teaser right now and add more later when I could. But as I was working on the game a thought occurred to me on how I could hint about my masterpiece.

One of the aspects of the game was characters you could fight as, there were historical figures, both mythological and otherwise. Then there were generic characters whose appearance depended on the type of fight you were participating in. But what if I added other characters, each one with a backstory about the game that would change the world. My masterpiece was going to incorporate parts of so many games that there were countless to choose from.

And why stop there? This was a world of super heroes so why not add an option that lets you play as a hero? For now it would just be heroes from various sources back in my old world that this one lacked but once I could get permission they could even play as Iron Man or one of the X-Men. It added a lot more content to the game and kept me occupied until my time was over and I could feel the pull from the waking world.

With one last push I sent the changes to integrate into the Oasis, but I kept the fighting game from joining them as it wasn't even finished with the beta version yet. But the others were close enough that they could merge into my realm. Then I woke up and the waking world greeted me like any other person, with a beam of sunlight blinding me from the crack in my curtains.

Sitting up to stop the agony I was experiencing I stretched my arms over my head before rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and getting up to start my day. An hour later I was slipping on my shoes to take a walk outside, it felt like it had been forever since I felt the sun on my face, but that was probably the time dilation talking. As I walked along the sidewalk I found that the streets seemed emptier than I was used to and the city had quieted to a dull roar instead of the constant orchestra I was used to.

Hiding a little smile I couldn't help but be proud at the effect my work had on the rest of the world. Isn't that what everyone wants to do? To build something that the whole world will admire? Well I had succeeded where most others had failed. It will probably add some chaos into the world once I really start putting some more elbow grease into it but sometimes chaos can be a good thing.

Of course that didn't mean I was going to dive right into that chaos, if I did it would definitely make things more interesting but it also had a good chance of destroying the world. I wanted change not destruction, but at the same time I knew that it wasn't possible to make such changes without a little bit of destruction. This was the world of Marvel after all, when heroes stand out from the crowd villains will always rise to meet them.

I wouldn't be able to change that fact any more than I could change the fact that the earth revolves around the sun. As in not without a boat load of power and uncaring about consequences. My power was focused on dreams, while I could make things permanent it would cost astronomically more than temporary effects. It was why I was waiting so long to use my powers in a substantial way, the library's learning abilities didn't count.

With that I was just tapping into the natural ability of dreams, sure I was expanding on it a little. but if you weren't cheating then you weren't trying hard enough. People could remember their dreams already, I just made sure those memories were less likely to fade. Ever had a falling dream and suddenly jerk awake in your bed? Expanding on that sensation cost a bit more but it was more than worth it.

But I was supposed to be relaxing, taking some time away from the realms and enjoy the new world a bit. So for now I was content to just sit in a park and enjoy the quietest day in New York City since it was named the city that never sleeps. Soon enough the lack of sound actually started to grate on my nerves so I took out my phone to see how people were reacting to the changes I made.

Pulling up the app I started to look through the different streams, now that people started streaming there was a third but that said [Watch]. There weren't many but there were enough people who bought the emblem in Minecraft that I didn't have to invade anyone's privacy to enjoy myself. The amount of streams hadn't reached the levels of activity during my old life but it was still impressive for only being out for a couple of days.

I tried my favorite Widow first to see if she had joined but it seems she wasn't in the realms currently. That was fine, I flicked through a couple more before coming across an interesting account. His screen name was KnightCrawler so I was pretty sure I knew who it was and I was curious to see if I would be able to tell which version he would turn out to be just by watching.

I was confident as the versions I knew about were pretty different, and after watching the stream for a few minutes I settled in to have some laughs at the prankster version of Kurt Wagner. Kurt had been excited to try the new app everyone had been raving about. But unfortunately the professors learned about it even faster than the students did and put a school wide ban on it until they could determine if it was safe.

Luckily after about an hour had passed they returned and gave the go ahead along with a warning to be respectful while playing. After porting away to grab his phone as soon as he got the message he entered the game. It was like nothing he had ever experienced, it wasn't just the fact he could make his body look any way he wanted. It was also the fact that even though he kept the fuzz, the ladies loved the fur after all, he wasn't the weirdest looking one around anymore.

There were people that took the ability to change their bodies however they liked to a whole new level. It wasn't just olympic athlete level fitness either, some people had extreme body proportions. And it wasn't just the dudes that looked like The Rock had combined with John Cena to double their muscle mass. If you looked closely there were people that had long necks like a giraffe or arms with two elbows.

With no consequences people would try something out for fun and then go change it if they didn't like it. As more time passed the more people actually started to find abnormal body parts more appealing. Skins that were every shade of the rainbow, tails of that came in every shape and size, even wings on a few of the more adventurous.

But because they were walking around like everyone else it looked like they weren't actually usable like Warren's. So blue fur and a pointed tail was still worth a second look but beyond that it was nothing out of the ordinary anymore. After looking around and exploring the different things this game provided I came across a shop that was different from the rest.

For one, the crowd that was streaming in and out told me that many people were interested in whatever was being provided there. Another sign it was different was the sign above the entrance actually had a name on it, so of course I had to fight through the crowd and see just what was so different about this building. I didn't bother trying to keep the smile off my face as I swam through the sea of people, I never thought I would be able to be around so many people like this without someone screaming about demons.

When I finally made it through the doors I was surprised to see the walls covered in different items. But what really caught my attention was the giant purple portal that was on the other end of the shop. Because it had to be a portal, what else could it be? Most of the people that entered the shop were gathered around the portal, each one hesitant to step in as when someone did so they would disappear.

Some came back right away, some came back after a few minutes but others were not seen again. At least not in the few minutes I spent watching for them. But I was an X-Man, I couldn't let a little bit of fear get in the way of a possible adventure, besides it seemed safe enough. If the professor deemed it safe then what could go wrong? Squaring my shoulders I pushed through the crowd and after a bit of shoving and an accidental foot stomp I stepped through the portal.

And it was a step, if anyone says it was a trip or a fall then they are lying and that is the story I was sticking to. The world faded into purple pixels before being replaced by a forest, only this forest was a lot different from the forests I was used to. Mostly because everything was square, from the leaves to the trees, even the earth had ledges that were squared off. Mimicking hills I suppose, I had to give it to whoever made this, it was certainly a new approach.

It definitely made it stand out from the rest, games today were either war games about Captain America or basic puzzle games. It was like if you wanted to make anything more complicated than chess you had to incorporate the captain in some way. Not that the Captain wasn't a great man, but come on, some originality please. "I begged and pleaded and now I have received." I sent a little prayer in thanks before wandering off to explore this new world.

In the first minute I discovered a stream and got another shock, even though I still kind of looked like the body I designed had become blocky like the rest of the world. Spending a few minutes examining my body I continued to explore, and I learned a lot. There was just so much thought put into the game, the more I played the more I discovered and the more I realized I had barely scratched the surface.

I hadn't even realized how much time had passed when suddenly a screen popped up in front of me. [You have been inside the Oasis for 24 hours, please exit the game in order to spend some time in the real world.] My eyes widened at the notification, I hadn't realized I had been in the game for a full day, the professor was going to be so mad. I turned around to address the audience I had gathered after buying a certain token from the village I came across a while ago.

"Sorry guys, looks like I have to leave, but I'll come back in a while after spending some time in the real world. Might be a while though, depends on how mad the professor is." With that he logged off and opened his eyes in the real world a moment later, Kurt Wagner stretched his limbs from staying still for so long and was surprised when he didn't feel that tired. It felt like he had just woken up from a full night's rest, the professor needed to know ASAP. If this could replace sleep, what else could it do?
