Chapter 28 - Learning the Shadow Clone Jutsu

After testing with chakra paper, Leo discovered that he possessed Wind, Lightning, and Fire elemental chakra natures.

That revelation drastically widened his range of potential ninjutsu—he could now use a far greater variety of techniques.

Leaving the ninja tool section behind, he made his way toward another area—

The Konoha Ninjutsu Archive.

The space was vast, easily over a hundred square meters. Rows upon rows of bookshelves stood tall, each filled with scrolls neatly sorted by level.

There were ninjutsu ranging from E-rank all the way to S-rank, though for ANBU members, only B-rank and below were available for study.

A-rank jutsu were restricted to jonin or shinobi who had rendered exceptional service to the village.

Most ordinary ninja only had access to C-rank techniques at best.

As for Minato Namikaze, the reason he could use an A-rank jutsu like Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique was probably because he'd been taught by Jiraiya.

According to Konoha regulations, a jonin has the authority to teach their personal students ninjutsu—

but only if that student is a loyal Konoha shinobi, one who truly carries the Will of Fire.

And Minato's loyalty? There was never any question about that.

If Leo hadn't joined the ANBU, his only path to higher-level jutsu would've been through missions—earning enough merits to exchange for them—or by apprenticing under a powerful jonin willing to teach him.

Like Tsunade, for example—her Monster Strength training method was worth more than any A-rank technique.

But now that Leo was part of the ANBU, he technically belonged to the Hokage's direct command unit.

Even as an ANBU trainee, he was granted permission to browse certain classified scrolls.

Looking around, he saw countless scrolls arranged in perfect order—just like a library.

The first section was for Ninjutsu,

the second for Taijutsu,

and the third for Genjutsu.

Of these, the Ninjutsu section was the largest by far, with scrolls detailing techniques for all five elemental affinities—Wind, Lightning, Water, Fire, and Earth.

But Leo's interest wasn't in the elemental techniques. Once he fully grasped the principles of chakra nature transformation, everything else would follow naturally.

After all, ninjutsu itself was just an application of chakra nature transformation.

A shinobi uses their natural affinity to mold chakra into a desired form.

With Wind Release, he could transform his Rasengan into a Rasenshuriken.

With Lightning Release, he could create his own version of Chidori.

And with Fire Release—well, since he possessed the Flame-Flame Fruit, there wasn't a fire technique in existence he couldn't replicate.

Leo's goal today was clear—

He headed straight for the Special Ninjutsu Section, which contained techniques unrelated to the five basic elements.

"Shadow Clone Technique (Kage Bunshin no Jutsu) — B-rank. Allows the user to create physical clones that share experiences and knowledge with the original."

This was what Leo needed most right now.

The Shadow Clone Technique was invented by the Second Hokage, and unlike the basic Clone Technique taught at the academy, these clones were real, tangible entities.

The Clone Technique from the basic Three Academy Jutsu produced nothing but illusions—useful only for deception.

But Shadow Clones were flesh-and-blood duplicates capable of thinking, fighting, and training independently.

Leo silently memorized the hand seals and stored them in his mind before placing the scroll back where it belonged.

No one was allowed to remove scrolls from the archive—doing so would incur severe punishment.

Of course, when Naruto once "borrowed" the Forbidden Scroll that contained generations of sealed techniques, he hadn't been punished at all—

but that was only because of who he was. The higher-ups had conveniently turned a blind eye.

No sense dwelling on that.

The ANBU compound had its own isolated training chambers, each one soundproofed and sealed off from the others. Perfect for focused practice.

Standing in the center of his chamber, Leo took a deep breath, his expression serious.

"Boar — Dog — Rooster — Monkey — Ram!"

"Shadow Clone Technique!"

Blue chakra surged across his body, flowing through his meridians in a controlled torrent.

Poof!

A burst of white smoke erupted beside him—

and standing there was another Leo.

He blinked. Looking at his own clone felt strange—

different from seeing himself in a mirror.

"Didn't realize I was this handsome," he muttered.

The clone smirked. "Well, it sounds narcissistic coming from the original, but it's true—you are."

"…You can read my thoughts?" Leo asked, intrigued.

"Of course," the clone replied. "We're one and the same. Within short range, our senses, memories, and thoughts are shared."

"Then tell me," Leo said with a grin, "what am I planning to do next?"

The clone's expression shifted. He raised his right arm and called out—

"Armament Haki: Hardening!"

Instantly, his arm turned jet-black, radiating raw, explosive power.

Leo's eyes widened. Even his clones could use Haki?!

That meant… his shadow clones could also help him train and deepen his mastery of all three forms of Haki!

"In that case," Leo said with a smile, "let's not waste any time."

He formed the seals again, creating another clone.

Given his current chakra reserves, two clones were about his limit.

He assigned them tasks—

one clone would train Haki,

the other would practice the Six Forms of the Navy,

and Leo himself would study Tsunade's Monster Strength scroll.

He pulled the scroll from his cloak, broke the sealing tag, and unrolled it.

Neat, dense handwriting filled the parchment, along with Tsunade's personal notes.

"Secret Art of Monster Strength: The user precisely controls chakra flow throughout the body, coating every muscle and bone with chakra. When released, this stored energy erupts in a powerful burst capable of shattering stone and steel alike."

Leo nodded in understanding.

Precise chakra control wasn't difficult for him—his Observation Haki allowed him to perceive every current of chakra flowing through his body.

Chakra reinforces the body… It was actually quite similar to Haki.

Chakra was the very essence that enhanced a shinobi's physical ability.

If one could circulate chakra evenly throughout every cell, their raw strength would increase tremendously—just like Armament Haki.

But then, why was Tsunade's Monster Strength so feared if it were that simple?

He kept reading—and then it clicked.

Monster Strength didn't just distribute chakra across the body.

It required the user to gather and compress that chakra into a single point—then unleash it in an instant, detonating with unparalleled destructive power!

That was the true essence of Tsunade's might—

the art of condensing all power into one overwhelming strike.
