In a comparatively large house for the smallfolk situated near the edge of the wolfswood you could almost hear the shouting of a woman over the sounds of the almost near constant snow storms of the North
"BRUNN!! you lazy bastard wake the hell up right this moment or I swear to the old gods I am gonna drag you out of bed" after the brutal shouting that sounded like the scream of a banshee the recipient of the shouting stirred from his comfy bed but tried to do the best imitation of sinking it ones own bed and tried to doze back to dream land but it was for naught
Because the woman while saying, "Brunn wake up I made cabbage soup and it's gonna get cold if you don't wake up now" and came crashing through the roughly made door of mismatched planks
And as she came into the room Brunn woke up and his tether to the land of dreams was cut short and he stretched out of bed while saying, "I am up Ma, I am up and you made my favourite is today a special occasion"
" No son its just that old Higgens had some extra cabbage from the harvest I think he is trying to kiss up to us. Ever since your pa got that job at Winterfell all the neighbours have been extra nice even that hateful hag Freya was being nice"
She said while picking up the clothes that were lying around the room, "Oh yeah Brunn remember that you told your brother that you were gonna take him fishing today he is been up since first light and excitedly running amok in the kitchen so as soon as the storm is over you have to hold your end of the bargain"
As she said that Brunn remembered that his father had practically forced him to take his little brother Bannen fishing yesterday night over supper he hoped that the storm lasted the entire day so that he would not have to get out into the cold
After the woman said her piece she went off with the clothes in her hand and Brunn got off the bed and started helping out his mother with the fire by chopping up the needed firewood and going to the market normally the woman would have gone
But recently there had been an uptick of banditry what with most of the knights being taken away by Lord Stark to fight the rebelling human scum that were the ironborn, Brunn hoped the mad reavers were severally punished he like any true Northner hated the cancer that was the ironborn. Their absence left only the children, women and the sick or crippled men behind
And he was crippled from a childhood accident that made it hard to use his leg so that was why he was at home while his friends were off in the iron Isles dealing the needed blows to the scum while he the cripple was left at home playing house with his mother and brother
While coming back from the market with a basket full of vegetables and a sack of rice slung over his back the vegetables he noticed that the snowing had lessened that means he would have to stick to the deal today he also noticed that the veggie prices had gone up again it was probably because it was harder to bring fresh vegetables in with the bandits harassing the merchant caravans
But the grain had stayed mostly the same because the north was able to stockpile grain before the iron rebellion not because they foresaw this incident but because it was getting ready for the false winter so the stockpiles brought before the war was able to stabilise grain prices it didn't mean that the grain was cheap by any measure when compared to peace time because most of the stockpiles were taken to feed the army
Brunn's family could afford the steep price for fresh vegetables because their family was a favoured by the stark family since his great grandfather helped out Rickard Stark and their favour ment good pay it also helped that most of his ancestors were good with numbers and they knew how to marry to climb the ladder
The stockpiles just ment a stable price but Brunn didn't know any of this he only knew the grain price was stable and he was happy for that like his mother was
He finally got home with the things his mother told to buy he kept them down in the kitchen and before he could get out he was accosted by his brother saying, "Brunn let's go fishing now that the snowing is slowing, I prepared everything please you promised me"
" Okay okay geez, you brat just wait I will get my cloak and then we can go catch the stupid fish that you want so much. I don't even know why your so excited fishing is so boring"
And so off did Brunn and his little brother Benajen go to fish at the local lake actually it was the size of large pond but technically it was a lake because it was connected to a small branch of the white knife River and there was a lot of fish here
But most people didn't come there often because the lake would develop thick sheets of ice and it was such a hazzle to drill through the ice but it was good for recreational activities like theirs
After they got to the lake Brunn cut a small hole through ice sheet and they both set up their fishing rods through the hole and Brunn dragged in two medium sized rocks so that they could each sit
But before a fish could bite any of their bait there was a sudden shock and the ground started to shake and spiderweb cracks spread across the ice and as soon as Brunn saw them he yanked Benajen into his arms and roughly carried him while running to safety
And as soon as they got into the safety of the lake banks the surroundings changed from snowy ice frozen lake Banks to unfrozen muddy land covered in green grass replacing the previous surroundings
And coconut trees all round them but Brunn like most notherns have never before seen coconut trees so it looked like a single smooth columns rising from the ground with the top being an explosion of weird green leaves
And when he looked back he could see a large rectangular white tower with balconys surrounding all the sides of each floor had risen along with the coconut trees
And with that the Lanrens had come to the world of planteos bringing with them future change only time would tell if those changes would be good or bad
