Chapter 401 - 401

Using Aura Power to transmit information, Ash successfully sent the Aura control training method and application into Korrina's mind. Then he used the same method to transmit the information into Gurkinn's mind.

After about five minutes, both of them had finished absorbing the enormous amount of information. When they opened their eyes, both were filled with shock. They hadn't expected that Aura Power could do something like this. It was simply too miraculous.

"Thank you, Ash! I feel like my Lucario and I will suddenly improve significantly!" Korrina said excitedly, waving her fists.

"Then I look forward to our next battle. My Lucario and I will keep improving too," Ash smiled in response.

After chatting for a while, Ash bid farewell and left. He still had to take Serena to Bugsy's Gym and find Mr. Kurt. He had plenty on his plate.

"Go, go, see you next time. At the Silver Conference," Korrina said, waving her hand at Ash, a hint of reluctance in her eyes. Although their time together had been short, Ash's personality and the way they'd communicated had made her feel very comfortable, which was why she felt reluctant to see him go.

"You're competing in the Silver Conference too?" Ash didn't notice the reluctance in Korrina's eyes, only focusing on the important part of what she'd said. According to her, she was also going to compete?

"Of course! It's the Silver Conference! A grand event for Trainers worldwide, and now the Silver Conference has another name: the World Championship qualifier! How could I not go to a competition like this?" Korrina nodded firmly.

"This time, the Silver Conference is being held with rule changes. Not only ordinary Trainers, but also countless Gym Trainers have come here to compete. Even as Gym Trainers, they all dream of becoming one of the Eight Greats.

On top of that, Gym Trainers competing in the Silver Conference don't need to collect Badges. They can enter directly. That's one of the benefits for Gym Trainers. So the number of Gym Trainers competing in the Silver Conference this year will likely be extraordinarily high.

This is a competition that determines World Championship qualification, and to compete for the World Championship, you have to become a Champion first.

So this tournament is the only way in. That's why the Silver Conference is called the world championship's preliminary round. Small encounters, qualifying rounds, and the ongoing championship — those three make up the complete world championship process."

"I see. Then I look forward to meeting you at the Silver Conference, Korrina!"

"Okay!"

The two clasped hands, both flashing radiant smiles at each other. Behind Korrina, Gurkinn watched her various actions, a thoughtful expression in his eyes. It seemed like this young man was quite her type.

Although Korrina was usually carefree, someone of Ash's talent was actually harder for her to approach deep down. Even though they'd only spent half a day together, Korrina seemed to have already opened her heart to Ash. Truly a miraculous young man.

After bidding farewell to Korrina, Ash and the others went to the next Gym, Bugsy's Gym. Bugsy's Gym was Azalea Town's original Gym, and its Gym Leader was also a young man, even younger than Ash. He used Bug-type Pokémon.

In terms of difficulty, this Gym was simpler than the Violet City Gym. Although age wasn't the deciding factor in a Trainer's skill, the veteran Gym Trainers of most Gyms generally had more experience, and an anomaly like Ash was a once-in-a-thousand-years find.

Furthermore, before inheriting the Gym, Bugsy had reportedly been a Bug Catcher, one of those Bug Catchers Ash often saw when he first started traveling. If his father hadn't called him back to inherit the Gym, Bugsy would probably still be living a carefree life as a Bug Catcher.

Now, Bugsy's father had gone on a journey, leaving Bugsy alone to run the Gym.

When they received this news, Ash and Misty immediately cast strange glances at Brock. This wasn't the first time they'd encountered this type of Gym Leader. Why did every Gym Leader like this seem like Brock's parents? They left a few Pokémon behind for their children, taught them a little, and then, under the guise of letting their children grow up, they went on their own journeys.

Take Korrina and her grandfather, for example. Although Gurkinn let Korrina take on the role of Gym Leader and trained her, he also guided her, and sometimes even helped her share the pressure. That was proper training.

Parents like Brock's, who were Gym Leaders, actually just didn't want to take responsibility and wanted to travel. Before, Ash had thought Gym Leaders like Brock's parents were rare, but after seeing more of the world, he realized there wasn't just one dark crow of a parent.

After going through the three procedures at Bugsy's Gym, Serena began her battle with Bugsy. Because the previous challenge had involved a Gym Leader's Badge, the difficulty level increased slightly. Essentially, new Trainers would only have to face Pokémon that had advanced from Low to Mid level, and they'd need one Gym Badge already to enter.

That said, the Gym Leader would then send out Pokémon ranging from Mid to Peak level. Furthermore, this battle was a three-on-three match, and the Pokémon Bugsy sent out were Butterfree, Beedrill, and Scyther. Butterfree and Beedrill were both High level, while Scyther had reached Peak level.

This level was still a bit of a challenge for Serena, after all, Serena only had two Pokémon. One was Braixen, and the other was a Pokémon she'd caught before going to Azalea Town — Rhyhorn.

It was strange, but Serena, this seemingly weak woman, had been able to subdue the hot-tempered Rhyhorn. Initially, when Serena captured that Mid-level Rhyhorn, Ash was worried about whether Serena would be able to tame it, but it turned out Ash was completely overthinking it. In less than a day, Rhyhorn and Serena had formed a strong bond of understanding.

The fact that Serena could get along so well with a Pokémon like Rhyhorn so quickly showed that she definitely had her own unique skills. Later, Ash learned that Serena, before setting off on her journey, was always helping her mother look after Rhyhorn at home.

Serena's mother was a Rhyhorn racing competitor. Although Ash and the others had never heard of this kind of competition, they could tell what it was just from the name. It was no wonder Serena had a special way of interacting with Rhyhorn. She had, in a sense, grown up among Rhyhorns since childhood.

After Ash found out, Serena had been worried he might find her upbringing crude, but Ash had only expressed admiration and respect, without any other emotional coloring. Serena felt a pang of relief. After all, this was Ash. How could he possibly think less of her because of a Pokémon-related background? Ultimately, she was being overly cautious.

Despite having only two Pokémon, Serena chose to challenge the Gym, relying on her Trainer instincts honed under Ash's tutelage and her long-standing understanding of Rhyhorn. Serena successfully defeated Butterfree and Beedrill with Rhyhorn, but Rhyhorn was then knocked out by Scyther. The final battle followed. Braixen against Scyther.

Even though Serena's battle skills were solid, Scyther's speed made it hard for Braixen to cope. In a moment of desperation, Serena remembered Ash's often unhinged tactics, so she had Braixen unleash her most powerful Fire Spin, setting the entire arena ablaze. Finally, to Ash's horrified expression, Braixen's Fire Spin directly incinerated Scyther.

Ash quickly released Blastoise from his belt, extinguishing the flames throughout the arena.

"It's over, my greenhouse arena." Bugsy looked at the greenhouse arena, which had been burned through, and knelt on the ground, tears welling up in his eyes. This place had been specially built by him to cultivate Bug-type Pokémon. The plants and trees had taken a lot of time and effort to grow. Now, a single fire had burned everything to ashes.

This was the first time since he became Gym Leader. Although he'd encountered Fire-type Pokémon before, none of them were like Serena. Previous Fire-type battles inside the greenhouse had produced only small flames that could be quickly extinguished, and didn't significantly impact the arena. But now, Serena had burned down the entire greenhouse, meaning he had to start rebuilding from scratch.

Bugsy silently vowed that future Gym battles absolutely wouldn't be held inside the greenhouse. Damn the Gym atmosphere. He had to build an outdoor arena from now on.

Serena's victory should have been a joyous occasion. But when she saw Bugsy collapse to the ground, all the joy in her heart vanished, replaced by embarrassment.

"Uh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to. How much will the repairs cost?" Serena had already braced herself for the bill.

"There's no need for that. The League will cover the money, but I don't know how long it'll take to fully rebuild." Bugsy, crouching on the ground, shook his head, propping himself up. Money wasn't the issue. The damage to the Gym counted as a "workplace incident," and the League would provide the funds for repairs. But these plants couldn't be restored with money alone. They needed time to grow. To return to their previous state would take an unknown amount of time.

"That's fine. I can lend a hand." Ash's voice instantly caught Bugsy's attention.

He wasn't unfamiliar with Ash. Ash was a regular in the news. Bugsy had often heard about Ash's record-breaking achievements. In battles, various miraculous phenomena frequently occurred around him.

Overcoming opponents of higher levels was commonplace, and battles against same-tier opponents were as easy for him as drinking water. The Pokémon in his possession were each more extraordinary than the last, earning him the title of "Supernova" and "Newborn Monster" within Johto. Such a reputation spoke volumes about the terrifying impact Ash had made on the outside world.

However, no matter how terrifying he was on the battlefield, that had nothing to do with plants. Even with the powerful Pokémon Ash had, he could only assist in planting some seedlings. Restoring the plants would still take time.

"Wait for me a moment!" Facing Bugsy's watching gaze, Ash greeted him and then vanished from the spot.

Bugsy's eyes widened, his fingers trembling as he pointed to where Ash had disappeared. His head kept swiveling, his gaze frantically shifting between Misty and the others and the empty spot where Ash had been. Even without Bugsy saying anything, everyone knew what he wanted to say. How did Ash disappear? Did he have psychic powers?

Ash himself definitely didn't have psychic powers, but Mewtwo did. Of the three, only Serena would question what Ash was up to. Brock and Misty had already guessed Ash's intention.

Approximately a minute later, Ash reappeared in his original position, holding a red and white Poké Ball in his hand.

"You're up, Venusaur!"

A flash of light revealed a majestic Venusaur on the field.

"Venusaur, thanks for coming. Time to bring life back to this place." Ash addressed Venusaur.

"What do you mean? Even if Venusaur is a Grass-type Pokémon, this seems a little forced." Before Ash could finish his sentence, Venusaur had already extended eight vines from his body, piercing into the dark, blackened ground.

A second later, a beam of white light illuminated the entire blackened area of the ground, and then the surrounding vegetation, which had been burned to charcoal, began to radiate life. In a mere two minutes, the large area of vegetation in the greenhouse became lush again, even more than before. The Bug-type Pokémon that had been despondent were now hopping around with joy.

Misty unconsciously hid behind Ash. She still had no resistance to those furry insects, but the emotions from their revival had infected her, blunting her fear enough that she was staying put.

"That's it, Bugsy," Ash nodded with satisfaction at the vibrant scene, then turned to ask Bugsy if he was pleased with the result. If Bugsy wanted the greenhouse even more vibrant, Venusaur could do more.

After this stretch of time, Venusaur's control over life force seemed to have improved. Although his level hadn't broken through yet, it was close. Finding his own path to advancement was indeed fast.

"It's fine! This is even better than before! Thank you, Ash!" Bugsy pecked like a chick, nodding frantically, completely satisfied with the current state of the greenhouse.

The legendary miraculous figure truly lived up to his reputation. He could even accomplish something like this. Truly a jack-of-all-trades.
