Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: Work hard from today and become a superman

Vincent went up to the second floor of the wooden house by himself. He glanced at Kara's adoptive parents downstairs, who showed no movement, and for a moment, he didn't know what to say.

So, are parents' hearts this big nowadays?

No matter what, even if he was Kara's classmate, would they really let him into their fifteen-year-old daughter's room just like that?

Aren't they afraid he might do something bad??

Forget it, he wasn't planning on doing anything bad anyway...

"Cough." Vincent pretended to cough and knocked on a door on the second floor: "Kara, are you in there?"

There was no sound from inside the room.

Vincent knocked a few more times, thinking that since he was already here, he steeled his heart and said assertively: "If you don't speak, I'm just going to open the door and come in."

Inside, it was still completely silent.

Vincent tried the door and found it unlocked, so he opened it directly.

The wooden door pushed open, revealing a girl's quiet and warm room. However, the only window in the room was tightly shut, and the dark curtains were drawn, allowing no sunlight into the room, making the interior light very dim.

Vincent walked a few steps into the room and soon accidentally stepped on something soft. He picked it up and saw it was a pair of sky-blue garments made of scarce fabric.

Vincent's hand trembled, and he shook the clothes out of his hand.

Luckily, no one saw that. Vincent secretly felt fortunate and continued to look towards the bed in the room. The duvet there clearly formed a large lump, showing no part of the girl's body, as if she was deliberately hiding under the covers.

"Kara, you're in there, right?" Vincent called out, coming to the edge of the bed.

"Senior, why are you here?"

Finally, Kara's delayed response came from under the covers.

"Ever since Christmas, you've been taking leave and haven't come to school. So..."

Before Vincent could finish his sentence, the girl directly asked: "Are you worried about me?"

"Of course." Vincent nodded confidently and asked back: "Aren't we friends?"

The large lump under the covers trembled slightly.

Then, the girl's voice, tinged with a hint of a sob, came out: "Senior, I don't know what to do. I feel so useless. I can't help or protect him at all!"

Hearing this, Vincent suddenly understood.

Connecting it with Kara's adoptive father's earlier admonition not to talk about Superman.

Everything matched up!

Clearly, Kara was Superman's—loyal, die-hard fan!

Thinking of this, Vincent suddenly said: "Do you know what Superman was thinking about when he was dying?"

Kara under the covers fell silent and asked: "What?"

"He must have been thinking, if only there could be a second, a third, and more Supermen like him to step forward." Vincent said in a deep voice: "That way, he wouldn't have to bear the safety of the entire world, and could even live a stable life like an ordinary person."

"But no one can do it better than him..." Kara under the covers responded with difficulty.

"Yes, no one can do it better than him. But precisely because of that, we must strive to become the Superman in his heart." Vincent pondered: "We ourselves must become 'Superman', and let Superman become 'ordinary people'. This is what he should want to see, a world where he can feel relaxed and happy."

In fact, even Vincent didn't know what he was saying.

Vincent wasn't good at comforting people. At this moment, all he could do was use Kara's idol to set a goal for Kara to strive for.

As for becoming Superman... just kidding, who can become Superman? Superman is a Kryptonian!

Vincent just mentioned it casually, hoping to ignite Kara's fighting spirit.

"Senior, can I also become Superman?" From under the covers, Kara's voice was no longer confused; she asked softly.

Vincent sat on the edge of the bed and patted the quilt covering Kara, encouraging her: "Of course, as long as you work hard, you will definitely become the Supergirl that Superman expects."

Hmm, Vincent chose to continue conflating concepts.

Effort? Does he think it's some bald guy, where effort makes him stronger?

There was silence under the covers for a while longer.

Just when Vincent thought his comforting words had no effect.

"Liar!" Kara suddenly chuckled, saying from under the covers: "I even failed to confess, how could I become Superman?"

"This!" Vincent felt he still couldn't keep up with a woman's thought process.

"Vincent, do you really not feel anything for me?"

As the girl's words came, in front of Vincent, the sides of the quilt slipped down slightly.

Vincent was stunned. Even in the dim light of the room, he could vaguely see a smooth and delicate expanse of white skin.

Kara, with her slightly dark gold hair in the dim light, sat 'duck-style' on the bed. Her upper body was only wearing a small camisole nightgown, and her lower body was wearing ultra-short sleep shorts that didn't reach her knees, with the narrow leg openings creating alluring curves on her soft, smooth, beautiful legs. The remaining quilt covered one of her shoulders, while the quilt and camisole on the other side had slipped down, revealing a semi-translucent, graceful young girl's body from the shoulder downwards.

A faint glow appeared in Kara's gem-like beautiful eyes. Her hands rested slightly on the bed, and her graceful body leaned forward, bringing her into close eye contact with Vincent.

Less than a few centimeters apart, their noses almost touched, and a subtle sense of attraction between opposite sexes spontaneously arose.

"I..." Vincent opened his mouth, but it was quickly sealed by a soft finger.

"No need to say anything."

Kara looked down at his left chest, revealing a sweet and gentle smile: "I already know the answer."

"But. The way I am now isn't the real me."

Kara looked directly at Vincent, regaining her confidence and sincerely said: "Give me a little more time, and I will show you my true form. When that time comes, then you can consider my confession!"

...Vincent left the Danvers' residence.

Before leaving the wooden house, he looked back at the second-floor window, Kara's room, where the curtains were now open, and sunlight filled the room.

Today, a confident and vibrant Kara Danvers left a very deep impression on Vincent.

Vincent had to admit that, in that instant, his heart beat much faster than usual... S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, top floor office.

"Director, you called for me?" Black Widow, dressed in her usual black tight leather uniform, entered.

Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury, in his office chair, said nothing, silently placing a photograph on his desk.

Black Widow looked at the photo in surprise. Usually, the targets were gang leaders or something, but this time, the person in the photo was a young boy.

A Chinese boy? He looked like a high school student.

"His name is Vincent Prince. Preliminary investigations have revealed that he is the adopted son of Justice League superheroes member—Wonder Woman." Nick Fury quickly said: "I want you to go undercover and approach him, to investigate if he possesses any extraordinary abilities."

"What if he does have superhuman abilities?" Black Widow was somewhat curious.

Nick Fury's single eye was deep, and his dark face was resolute and decisive. He said in a deep voice:

"We'll compete with the Justice League for him!"
