Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: The Death of Superman, a New Era

When Vincent rushed back to the urban area where the instructor and students were located, he found that almost everyone there had a look of astonishment on their faces, gazing at a giant advertisement screen on a building.

On the giant advertisement screen, a broadcast report was playing.

It was a live broadcast from Gotham City, with the camera providing a top-down view from a helicopter.

Through the clear live footage, one could see piercing sirens echoing throughout the city, and both the sky and the ground were ablaze.

The former site of the abandoned factory had turned into a wasteland, and the ground in the combat zone had collapsed five meters overall. Shattered reinforced concrete buildings, like an urban area ravaged by a natural disaster, made people feel as if they were there, smelling the thick scent of gunpowder lingering in the air.

Everything indicated that while an alien invasion was happening in New York City, a brutal battle beyond human imagination was also unfolding in Gotham City!

At the center of the battle, there was a tall man in black bat-style armor, a beautiful woman wielding a golden longsword and a round shield, and a woman dressed in an ordinary shirt and journalist's attire... Vincent's expression was grave; his aunt had also participated in another war today.

The camera zoomed in on the scene, showing the news report.

A tall man in a red cape confronted a hideous, gigantic monster.

The monster was even larger than the Abomination Vincent had seen, ugly, ferocious, terrifying, and covered in highly dense muscle knots.

As for the tall man in the red cape, without any news commentary, every Earthling knew who he was —

Superman!

However, Superman, who was always invincible, capable of carrying Boeings and shattering mountains, was now entangled in close combat with that terrifying monster!

A green glowing spear in Superman's hand pierced the body of the unspeakable monster, but his own chest was also impaled by the monster's sharp, dark claws!

Superman and the monster, in a mutually destructive embrace, stood motionless in the ruins like an ancient and forbidden sculpture!

Drip!

Scarlet blood flowed from Superman's perfect and muscular body. Many people watching the news report at the scene and around the world couldn't help but exclaim, "So even gods bleed, and it's red!"

Superman opened his mouth in pain, letting out a wail that manifested as an actual sound wave, surging outwards!

Soon, he and the terrifying monster entangled with him tilted slightly, both falling in the center of the battlefield ruins!

Superman lay on the ground, covered in iron and blood, looking up at the scorched red night sky, as if after a nuclear explosion.

"January 2, 2012, 9:00 PM, Superman fell in battle!"

Everyone at the scene, including those watching the news report, fell silent at this sight.

"Superman, fell in battle?! Is it real or fake?"

Countless people found it hard to believe.

But no matter what, it was a fact!

Today, after the Battle of New York and the death of Superman, which occurred simultaneously, humanity realized a chilling and cruel truth — there were terrifying alien forces beyond Earth, and even on Earth, there were unknown entities capable of killing Superman!

Fear, trembling, widespread panic!

Things that were originally hidden on the back of the world were now completely revealed!

It was as if humanity was returning to a primitive stage before it dominated Earth; from today onwards, a new era was ushered in!

...New York, S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters building, in the conference room.

The bald, bespectacled man in a suit slammed the table and couldn't help but exclaim, "What is going on?! Not only Loki's Mind Stone, but even our original S.H.I.E.L.D. Tesseract is missing!! You Avengers must take full responsibility!!"

Facing his question.

At the conference table.

Stark, who had taken off his Iron Man suit, idly fiddled with a water cup; Dr. Banner, who had reverted to human form from the Hulk state, yawned; Captain America Steve Rogers took off his helmet and remained silent; as for the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Black Widow Natasha Romanoff, and Hawkeye Clint Barton, who had previously been secretly sniping aliens somewhere, they both pretended not to hear the question, following the lead of the others.

"Could you pour me a glass of water? Oh, and who are you?" Stark gestured with the water cup in his hand, then glanced at the bald man.

The bald man's eye twitched, and he said with barely concealed anger, "I am Agent Sitwell of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent team, authorized by the highest levels of S.H.I.E.L.D. with the power to handle all post-Battle of New York matters!"

"Is that so? Then where were you when we were fighting just now?" Stark shrugged.

"Watch your attitude..." Agent Sitwell hadn't finished speaking when Dr. Banner suddenly twitched, showing signs of getting angry and turning green, scaring him and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents standing behind him into unconsciously taking a few steps back.

Unexpectedly, Dr. Banner merely feigned it, shrugging his hands and saying, "Don't mind me, you guys continue."

How could they not mind! You are a ticking time bomb!

Agent Sitwell was about to say something. Just then, the conference room door opened, and a one-eyed Black man in black clothes walked in, followed by a tall female agent assistant.

"Agent Sitwell, you may leave first," the one-eyed Black man said.

"Yes, Director," Agent Sitwell waved his hand helplessly and left the conference room with his agent team, throwing out a remark before he left: "Director, you need to understand one thing, I don't really want to manage this either. It's just that, with the high-level senators, it's very difficult for me to explain."

Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury was expressionless. After the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent team members left, only the Avengers members remained in the conference room.

"Where is Thor?" Director Nick leaned his hand on the table, asking calmly.

Stark quickly replied, "He returned to Asgard, saying he needed to deal with his brother Loki's matters."

"As Loki is a war criminal, they do need to give him the appropriate punishment," Director Nick narrowed his single eye sternly, scanning the heroes present: "I believe you all know that Superman fell in battle not long ago. We suffered heavy losses in this Battle of New York, and it cannot be considered a complete victory. In the future, who knows how many dangers await you Avengers."

Director Nick paused, then asked, "Do any of you have anything to say?"

"Armor, weapons!" Stark immediately spoke, saying in a deep voice, "We need to arm the entire world with armor!"

"Tony," Captain America frowned deeply, refuting, "Your idea is too extreme!"

"Extreme? I don't think so!" Stark shook his head.

"Let's not discuss whether the entire world needs to be armed with armor for now. In any case, armor weapons need to be improved; our current equipment is not powerful enough," Dr. Banner joined the discussion: "For example, we could create a Hulkbuster Armor based on me. Firstly, it could suppress me if I lose control, and secondly, it could be deployed as a heavy-duty armor in future battles."

"Banner, you understand me," Stark's eyes lit up, clearly moved by Banner's suggestion: "Not just Hulkbuster, we need more types of anti-armor weapons!"

"What about you two, aren't you going to say something?" Director Nick looked at Black Widow and Hawkeye, who were silently sitting aside.

Hawkeye rubbed the back of his head and casually said, "We need more superheroes members."

Hmm, a very uninteresting platitude.

Of course, the more superheroes, the better, but where would so many superheroes come from?

"I've been wondering about one thing," Black Widow suddenly said: "Who was that You-Know-Who who joined the battle today to help us?"

At this question.

Every member of the Avengers fell silent. They also wanted to know who that powerful being was, who had single-handedly and quickly turned the tide of the Battle of New York —

Who was it?
