Before Blackbeard could finish speaking, Burgess suddenly exclaimed, "Captain, that guy—he just disappeared!"
Doc Q's expression grew serious. He could tell now that the 300 million Belly bounty wasn't just for show.
In the blink of an eye, Sandy had used Shave (Soru) to leap across the air, reappearing directly above Van Augur.
"Armament Haki Hardening! Take a kick from me!"
Sandy didn't hesitate—he wasn't the type to hold back until provoked. Facing an opponent on Blackbeard's level, showing mercy was suicide.
But Van Augur—who had eaten a Paramecia-type Space Fruit—was no pushover. His marksmanship was fast, but his enhanced reflexes were even faster.
Still, Sandy's speed far outmatched him.
"Crack—!"
"Boom!"
Van Augur's rifle snapped under Sandy's kick, and the sniper himself was sent crashing through a house, collapsing it in an explosion of dust and rubble.
Seeing the destruction, Blackbeard narrowed his eyes.
"Augur…"
Burgess's face twisted with rage. "Captain, I'll crush him!" he roared, grabbing an entire house and hurling it at Sandy like a boulder.
"Don't attack randomly!" Blackbeard shouted. "You're not his match yet—!"
But Burgess ignored him.
Sandy saw the building flying toward him and didn't even bother to draw his sword. He used Shave again, vanishing from sight.
Blackbeard's pupils contracted.
"Burgess, above you!"
Before Burgess could react, Sandy came crashing down on him.
"BOOM!"
The house hit the ground with one deafening explosion—followed immediately by another as Sandy's kick sent Burgess plummeting into the dirt.
Dust settled. Burgess lay groaning, half-buried.
Sandy frowned. "Damn… these guys are way too tough."
Even with his inhuman physique and third-stage Armament Haki, they were still standing. Their endurance was monstrous.
Blackbeard stepped forward, his face dark and ominous. An eerie pressure filled the air.
"Zehahaha… Zehaha…"
"As expected of a pirate worth 300 million. Your attacks are impressive—but this is where your journey ends."
Sandy met his stare and scoffed. "You're Blackbeard, right? Keep talking and I'll rip every single hair off that filthy beard of yours."
Blackbeard grinned, baring his teeth.
"Zehahaha! If you can do that, boy, come and try!"
"Damn you—!"
"Boom!"
An explosion erupted where Sandy stood. He barely dodged in time, leaping aside.
"Tch!" He glared at the sickly rider in the distance. "You on the horse—are you in a hurry to die?"
Doc Q coughed, smiling faintly. "Burp… You're fast. Must be fate that you lived."
Blackbeard turned to him. "Doc Q, enough. I'm killing this one myself."
Once again, Blackbeard and Sandy locked eyes.
"Zehaha… Storm D. Sandy, let me show you my power."
He raised his hand. Black smoke began to pour out, swirling around him like a storm.
"This is my ability—the one I've always dreamed of possessing. The Dark-Dark Fruit—the most vicious power in history. A Logia… but different."
Sandy sighed. "Are you done monologuing yet?"
Blackbeard smirked. "You'll understand soon enough… Dark Water!"
But before he could unleash it, Sandy vanished again—reappearing right in front of him.
He wanted to test Blackbeard's physical strength firsthand. After all, the scar on Red-Haired Shanks's face came from this man.
Blackbeard wasn't ready for the sudden rush. Sandy's Armament Haki-coated fist smashed toward his face, while Blackbeard swung his left arm toward Sandy's shoulder.
"Bang! Bang!"
Both men were sent flying in opposite directions.
Sandy grunted as he landed, shaken. What the hell is this guy made of? He's built like an ox!
Blackbeard, meanwhile, rolled on the ground, screaming in agony.
"It hurts! It hurts so much! Zehahaha—it's killing me!"
Sandy raised an eyebrow. "Wait… is he seriously that weak?"
Then he remembered—the Dark-Dark Fruit user feels double the pain of normal attacks.
After a moment, Blackbeard sat up, drenched in sweat and missing a few teeth.
He stood, furious. "You… you're dead now! Dark Water!"
The ground began to tremble as black smoke expanded, engulfing the entire area.
"You're swallowed by my darkness!" Blackbeard bellowed.
But Sandy wasn't fazed. He activated his own power.
"Space Field!"
A shimmering white barrier enveloped the two men. Sandy raised his sword—Highwind—its blade humming with energy.
Blackbeard's eyes widened. "So you're a Devil Fruit user too, huh?"
He smirked, baring his teeth.
"Zehahaha! Then let's see which one of us survives. Dark Water!"
