Chapter 100 - Chapter 100

Damien

The moment I got into the car, I tried not to show how much the court proceedings had affected me. One slip up, and these greedy reporters would capture it and smear my name all over the media.

The driver asked if we were heading home. I nodded.

Immediately I got home, I went straight to the wine cellar and grabbed the first bottle my hand landed on. I didn't bother with a glass. I twisted the cork out and drank straight from it.

I sat on the cold floor, my back against the rack, and drank again.

The judge's voice replayed in my head. Serena and I were officially divorced.

Just simple words. That was all it took to erase my marriage.

Serena hadn't looked at me. Not once. That hurt more than if she had yelled. Or cried. Or slapped me. Indifference was worse.

I drank until my throat burned.

My phone rang.

I looked at the screen and almost ignored it. Then I saw the name.

Max.

I answered. "Yeah."

"Damien," Max said. "It's been a long time."
