The maids woke me up early the next morning.
They were gentle about it, I'm guessing it was because of how weak I'd been yesterday. I had drifted off to sleep thinking about Damien and my head was also pounding from the day's journey. I managed to sit up and rubbed my eyes.
"Good morning, mistress."
"Good morning." I greeted back.
They helped me out of bed and led me to the bathroom. The water was warm, and they washed my hair carefully, like they used to. I couldn't deny that I'd missed this. I honestly did.
After the bath, they dressed me in a simple dress.
"Breakfast is ready, miss," one of them said. "Your father will be down shortly."
I nodded and followed them downstairs.
The dining table looked the same as always. Fresh fruits. Tea. Toast. Eggs. I sat down and ate slowly. I wasn't very hungry, but I didn't want to worry anyone. I kept checking the stairs without realizing it.
