Chapter 3 - The Little Imp

Acting quickly as the little revenant ran, Morwynn dashed—her intentions unknown to the monster as it picked up the pace.

"Hey, you, stop right there!" she yelled, her legs longer and faster than his.

This shook the little revenant, who ran as fast as it could, but its efforts were proven to be futile as Morwynn lunged at it, pinning it to the ground.

The two struggled as Morwynn tried to attack, but her efforts to take down this little revenant were rendered useless as it thrashed around, striking kicks and punches at her.

Morwynn was overwhelmed by the revenant's attack, forcing her to the snowy ground and running away.

The system displayed itself again, chiming with a time limit:

[Side Quest (2): Find shelter before user freezes]

I still have time left. Rising to her feet, she glanced around, finding the little revenant already meters from her, "Damn it," she said.

Fed up with the stubbornness of this creature, she stretched her hand out, her finger tips glowing with an icy, blue colour.

◈[Active Skill Used: Shardlash]◈

From her palms, shards of ice shot out, trapping the small reventant but not killing it. It struggled, kicking its legs, which were left free from the shards.

Morwynn exhaled heavily, standing on her feet before making her way to the revenant. As she went closer to it, she could hear it speak, its language inaudible, but it began to come clear to her.

"Unhand me, you vile mortal," they said, a tiny and feminine voice coming from the jagged, metal headgear.

A revenant that can talk?

Gripping the headgear tightly, she ripped it off to reveal who was beneath:

A little girl, her eyes yellow, in the form of slits like a dragon, from her head were two curly horns like a dragon from an old fairytale, her skin a deep, dark crimson and at the side of her head were pointy ears pierced with many golden jewels.

An imp? Since when were demons part of the revenants? Morwynn thought, left bewildered by what she was seeing.

"Are you deaf?!" the girl said, "Have the revenants rid you of your ears?. Free me this instant!"

Well, she's nice? Morwynn now needed to know who she was.

In this game, 'Sprout & Sorcery', a player could gather allies, but trust needed to be made between the player and the game character. This demonic child didn't look like someone she could trust, especially from how harsh she sounded.

Let me try sounding serious.

Morwynn cleared her throat, her expression changing as she held out her hand, forcing the screaming child to stop, "Hey, stop right there?!" she ordered coldly, "Who are you and who sent you?"

The demon gazed up at Morwynn with a flabbergasted expression on her face. Then she burst out laughing, kicking her legs with amusement.

Well, that didn't work. Now left with a demon child who wouldn't stop laughing, she had an idea of how to make her talk.

"Oh well," she shrugged, before turning away, "I guess I'll be walking alone"

The demon heard this, her laughter stopping. Now she watched Morwynn walking away, "What?" she muttered under her breath, "Hey! Where are you going?!"

Morwynn said nothing, deciding not to answer the little girl. "See ya," she said, waving at her.

"D-don't just leave me here," the demon said, struggling.

Morwynn whistled, ignoring her plea.

The demon struggled, but then a realisation hit her, "Y-you want to live this place, right?" she stuttered, "I can help you!"

Morwynn's eyes widened, stopping on her tracks as she slowly turned, "Really?" she muttered.

The demon hesitated before sharing a subtle nod.

Morwynn sighed, her breath cold. She checked the system, gazing at the list of her quests.

QUESTS:

[Main]: Unlock the Frost Core's True Power

Progress: 7%

• Find shelter before the user freezes

Time Remaining: 00:48:42

[Mission]: No Mission Available!

Forty-eight minutes left. I have no time. I need to get out of here.

Morwynn groaned heavily, her cheeks puffed up like a balloon.

Should I trust this demon?

As Morwynn thought twice, the demon child had a cunning look on her face, a smile on her face.

Stupid human. She thought, making it quite clear to herself that she was going to betray the woman.

She was going to help her escape this place, but from her stature, she looked weak, and as a common demon in a world like this, she needed to gather power, which meant she needed to find the right time to attack Morwynn.

Morwynn made her way to the young demon, taking the ice shards with which she had attacked her.

"There we go," she said.

The demon child was free now, rising to her feet as she forced the remaining armour from her body, giving Morwynn a reveal to what was before the jagged armour.

She was adorned in skimpy gear, her navel pierced with a golden jewel. Her claws were yellow, like they were dipped in gold.

She stretched, "Now, that's more like it," she grunted with pleasure laced on her face.

Morwynn glanced at the little child who was as confident as smug as a brave warrior that could conquer anything. From head to toe, she scanned this demon, from her short pixie hair down to the sharp nails on her toes.

Then the system chimed, appearing with just a single ding. It displayed a tab before her.

⧱New Warrior Discovered: Mireth Dracmor⧱

Morwynn glanced at this information, her lips parting as she repeated the name, "Mireth Dracmor?" she whispered, repeating the words displayed on the interface.

The arrogant imp, who was now known as Merith Dracmor, heard this, her pointy ears twitching.

"Hey, how do you know my name?!" she demanded, stomping her foot on the snow.

Morwynn stepped back, "H-huh?," she stuttered, "Wh-what are you talking about? I didn't say anything"

Mireth's fanged teeth were gritted, a look of anger evident on her face. She was enraged, but that rage quickly left her, forcing her to fold her arms. "No matter," she said, "I believe there isn't much time. Once I help you leave this place, we go our separate ways, understood?"

Morwynn was hesitant, but she nodded, "A-Alright," she managed to say, her lips parted. She wanted to sound genuine despite having something different in mind.

No fucking way I'm letting a demon roam free. Once we are done with all this, I'm going to kill you.

Mireth also had the same thought.

Both of their eyes glinted with determination mixed with resolve as they faced the path ahead.

"Now," Mireth began, "Since you're so unfamiliar with this place, I will have to educate you while we walk"

Is that really necessary?

Morwynn sighed heavily, now left with no choice but to listen to this demon, "Yes, sure," she said before checking the time she had left, "Can we go already?"

Mireth nodded her head, turning to face the road ahead. Morwynn was ready as well, but the demon child stopped.

She turned to face Morwynn, stretching her hand. From her palm was a blinding light, leaving the woman overwhelmed.

What is she doing? Is she attacking?

Morwynn blocked her gaze with her hand, teeth gritted, her mind crossing with thoughts about this sudden betrayal. Then the light stopped, leaving her quite disoriented.

She dropped her hand and gazed down at herself, looking for any signs of this attack.

But she said something else. It was clothing, a tight leather attire barely covering her breasts and her entire waist. The new outfit clung to her strongly, acting like a second skin. Thought it was easy to move in.

"You looked like a whore," said Merith, "I despise walking with that"

Morwynn looked at this leather attire, checking every corner of her body. For a brief second, she thought that this demon child was going to attack her.

In fantasy games, imps were usually up to no good. The clothing was quite disappointing, seeing that it made her look like a low-class stripper, but it was something.

Besides, it wasn't her real body, so she cared less about how revealing it was. Yuna remembered Morwynn usually wore clothing like this.

I wonder why female game characters are sexualised in such a manner.

Fed up with Morwynn's pondering, Merith interrupted, "Are you coming or not?" she said loudly, "We don't have all the time to wait for your pondering"

Morwynn was shaken from her trance, turning to face the imp. "Oh, of course," she said.

They began to walk, leaving the snowy terrain and everything behind it.

As they moved, Morwynn could feel something watching her; it felt like a pair of eyes gazing into her soul. This feeling was colder than the atmosphere. While walking, she glanced back, her eyes fixed on the aftermath of the battle with the revenants.

__

Morwynn and Merith had reached a point in the vast terrain of Ishenholt. The two had run into a group of blue lizard-like creatures, at least three of them, which were quite difficult, their details evident at the top of their head.
