Chapter 5 - 5

Ding-a-ling-a-ling!" Just as the class bell rang, Meng Ran arrived at the classroom.

Seeing an empty seat in the last row, he sat down there.

"Hmm, this spot is good. Last row by the window, quiet, and with a view. Nice, nice." Meng Ran was very satisfied with the seat he chose.

At this time, the students in the class had also taken their seats one after another, and the teacher walked onto the podium.

Meng Ran was looking out the window when he suddenly heard someone call him. He turned around to find it was the teacher asking him to come up and introduce himself.

So, he walked to the podium and gave a brief self-introduction.

While introducing himself on stage, Meng Ran saw Peter Parker sitting in front of him, and the blonde beauty he had met outside earlier sitting to his right.

She was watching him introduce himself with great interest.

After finishing his introduction, Meng Ran walked off the podium, and the teacher began the lecture.

As soon as he sat down, Peter, who was in the seat in front, turned around and said somewhat shyly, "Hey, Meng, thank you for blocking that punch for me earlier and for catching my camera. I really, really appreciate it."

"No problem, brother. You were very brave just now. If I were a girl, I'd fall in love with you," Meng Ran said with a smile.

"Haha, if only there really was a girl like that," Peter said with great humor.

Meng Ran and Peter hit it off, even agreeing to do homework together sometime.

After chatting for a while, Peter began to listen attentively to the lecture, while Meng Ran idly looked at the scenery. He had already finished learning the content the teacher was explaining, so he was a bit bored.

"It's a good thing I have a window seat where I can look at the scenery, otherwise my nails would be completely bitten off again," Meng Ran thought.

"Aren't you listening to the lecture?" Meng Ran, who was looking at the scenery, suddenly heard someone ask him. He turned around and saw it was the blonde beauty.

"My name is Gwen Stacy, you can call me Gwen," the blonde beauty continued.

Meng Ran thought to himself, "So her name is Gwen," while smiling and responding, "Hello, Gwen."

"I just happened to have self-studied this part of the content, so I'm a bit bored and spacing out."

"Oh, I see. I thought you might not understand something and was thinking I could perhaps help you," Gwen realized with a start.

Looking into Gwen's clear blue eyes, Meng Ran even felt he could see his own reflection in them.

His heartstrings were deeply stirred by this gentle and lovely girl.

But no matter how much his heart was stirred, Meng Ran maintained a calm expression while chatting with Gwen.

"Flash is the team's ace, Meng, do you have confidence?" As if remembering Meng Ran's conflict with Flash earlier, Gwen asked with some concern.

"Flash is really annoying, always bullying other students."

Before Meng Ran could answer, Gwen started complaining about the troublemaker Flash again.

Looking at Gwen's puffed-up face, Meng Ran couldn't help but laugh and say, "Don't worry, since I dared to accept his challenge, of course I'm confident. I'll teach him a good lesson on how to respect others." With that, Meng Ran winked at Gwen.

Seeing Meng Ran so confident, Gwen's worries eased a little.

Meng Ran's confidence was not unfounded; he had gained some points from his crime-fighting activities a few nights ago.

He spent one hundred points to upgrade his fighting skills to intermediate, leaving fifty for backup, which now came in handy.

Meng Ran spent twenty points to buy a beginner-level comprehensive basketball skill. Although it was only beginner level, it was already completely sufficient.

Coupled with his superhuman physical fitness, let alone beating Flash, even playing in the NBA wouldn't be out of the question.

While Meng Ran and Gwen were having a friendly conversation, Peter was also captivated by the redhead girl next to him.

"She's the girl who was with Gwen just now," Peter thought, his gaze constantly drawn to her.

Perhaps sensing Peter's gaze, the girl turned her head and looked at Peter.

"Is there something on my face?" the girl asked Peter with a smile.

Peter hadn't expected her to suddenly turn and look at him. Their eyes met, and awkwardness filled the air. Peter felt like a monkey stripped naked.

"Oh, no. I... I just thought I might have seen you somewhere before," Peter said, flustered and incoherent.

At the same time, he was furiously cursing himself in his mind: "My God, what am I saying? Even Uncle Ben wouldn't say something so cliché. How could I be so stupid, ugh!"

Looking at Peter's expression, the girl couldn't help but smile and say, "Mr. Parker, that line is a bit cliché, isn't it?"

"But it's still effective, I'm Mary Jane, nice to meet you!"

Hearing Mary Jane's teasing, Peter felt a bit embarrassed, but it seemed she wasn't particularly annoyed.

Thinking this, Peter calmed down and began to display his sense of humor steadily, causing Mary Jane's favorable impression of him to slowly increase.

Sitting behind them, Meng Ran saw Peter looking pleased with himself and thought, "Peter is quite humorous when he's playing it cool, though he's still a bit behind me."

Meng Ran shamelessly praised himself again in his mind.

Ding-a-ling-a-ling!

As the bell rang, today's classes were over. Everyone headed out, going home and finding their mothers.

Meng Ran also stood up and walked with Peter towards the basketball court.

Gwen and Mary Jane also walked with Meng Ran and Peter.

Many people were also heading towards the court on the way. Most of them probably heard that there was a one-on-one challenge, so they came to watch the excitement. They walked in twos and threes, discussing as they went.

"I wonder who it is, to actually challenge Flash. He's the team's ace. That challenger is really overestimating himself," one person said to his friend as they walked.

"I heard that person seems to know kung fu and is very strong. He might even win against Flash," his companion said.

"What's the use of being strong? It's not a weightlifting competition. You can't win in basketball with just brute force," another companion interjected.

"That's true," several boys said as they walked away.

Meng Ran and the others walked nearby, hearing the boys' conversation clearly.

Meng Ran didn't think much of it. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. When he crushed Flash later, they would naturally realize how foolish their thoughts were.

However, Peter and the others' expressions were not as relaxed as before. After all, they knew Flash quite well, but they didn't know much about Meng Ran.

No one wanted Flash to win, but they all inevitably felt a little worried about Meng Ran.

Seeing Meng Ran's relaxed demeanor, they didn't want to dampen his confidence, so they remained silent, hoping he could truly defeat Flash.
