Chapter 9 - Chapter 9- Real big brother

Devin had planned to welcome their first child together, but unfortunately, the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. They had chosen to name the baby Sam junior, a decision Devin initially supported due to his love for Sam. After the loss, they laid the baby to rest in the family cemetery.

In an extraordinary turn of events, their son, who had tragically met an untimely demise, made an unexpected return as a zombie. However, through a miraculous wish made by Sam, who yearned for all things to be right and longed to keep all his children by his side, the zombie was transformed back into a human. Recognizing that the name "Sam junior" held no significance for him, they bestowed upon him the name Nate, marking a new beginning for their family.

Nate possesses the extraordinary ability to resurrect the dead, granting them a second chance at life. His eyes, which resemble his father's, are a captivating shade of blue, reminiscent of tiny diamonds. Furthermore, Nate has the unique ability to perceive and interact with the deceased.

During his middle school days, he got lost in the deserted school after it closed. Fear gripped him as he stumbled into the cafeteria. There, he discerned a peculiar sound emanating from the massive fridge. With trepidation, he opened the door to reveal a frozen boy whose appearance suggested he had perished in that very spot. To his utter surprise, the frozen boy spoke, inquiring, "What is your name?" Nate could only shudder in response, disturbed by the constant sight of the dead. He was certain the boy was deceased but was at a loss for how to assist him in his current state.

With a trembling voice, Nate uttered, "I-I am Nate." The boy, noticing Nate's vulnerability, gently asked, "Are you cold?" Nate, determined to remain composed, fought back tears. In a dull and lifeless tone, the boy uttered, "I am no longer cold." Nate, unable to bear the weight of these words, collapsed to his knees, tears welling in his eyes.

Through his eyes, the video unfolded like a movie, recounting the boy's harrowing ordeal. He witnessed the bullies, filled with hatred, pushing the boy inside. The coldness that enveloped the boy's body was palpable. Each desperate bang on the door echoed in his ears, as the boy yearned for escape. The boy's hands, cracked and bleeding from the relentless pounding, added a layer of anguish to the scene.

Despite his desperate actions, the boy found no solace and retreated to a corner, curling up in a ball. The biting cold penetrated his skin, causing excruciating pain that Nate could no longer bear. With every fiber of his being, he winced in agony, as if the pain was his own. In a tragic twist of fate, he witnessed the boy's death, a grim and disheartening sight. Unbeknownst to all, Nate was present during this heartbreaking event.

The following day, Nate attempted to confide in his teacher, but the teacher dismissed his claims as mere fabrications. He then turned to his brothers, only to be met with ridicule and laughter. Nate's feelings of isolation intensified, akin to the tragic fate of the young boy who perished from the cold. He decided to find the body of the boy in the freezer even if it creeped him out.

On that particular night, he remained in the school premises after it had been locked. He proceeded to the kitchen of the cafeteria, only to find that the freezer was locked, preventing any further access. In the midst of his vision, a shadow emerged, causing Nate's breath to quicken. With a sudden surge of adrenaline, he sprinted forward, his legs carrying him with renewed energy.

His back throbbed with searing pain, bringing him to an abrupt halt in his path. An unseen force gripped him abruptly, propelling him with force across the room. Wide-eyed with fear, Nate frantically scanned his surroundings, desperately searching for any sign of the entity that had just seized him.

The moment of realization dawned upon him. He understood what needed to be done. The diamond-embedded eye had to be revealed. But before he could even lift a finger to remove the patch covering it, the entity that had seized him let out a piercing screech: "Leave."

In a dramatic turn of events, the mysterious patch was ripped off, revealing an immense, dark entity with tentacles extending across the room. Nate, his voice filled with determination, commanded the entity, "Release him immediately!". Nate's ears were pierced by a high-pitched screech. "Be quiet, you pest!" he yelled, but it was to no avail.

In an attempt to find a solution, Nate sprinted out of the room, carrying the object he wished to discard. "Come on, you ugly pest," Nate taunted, hoping that by removing it from its current location, he could devise a plan to rid himself of it. Tracking Nate diligently, the entity remained in pursuit until they stepped beyond the confines of the structure.

With an eerie, menacing voice, the entity uttered, "I don't want to play anymore, human." Its tentacle wrapped around Nate, squeezing him mercilessly, causing excruciating pain as his ribs buckled and his ability to breathe was constricted. On the brink of darkness, a savior emerged – a courageous figure armed with a gleaming sword, severing the entity's tentacle, delivering Nate from imminent peril.

Upon awakening, Nate realized he was free from pain. He swiftly sprinted toward the cafeteria's cooler. To his astonishment, it was no longer locked, and the mysterious spirit that had haunted it before was nowhere to be found. Curiosity fueled, Nate ventured inside the cooler in search of the body, but to his surprise, there was no trace of it. "goodbye" he whispered under his breath

The boy he encountered remained an enigma to him, his fate unknown. Despite the lingering image of the boy, ghostly figures began to haunt his every step. Adding to his troubles, he had to tend to the wounds on his back, carefully wrapping them in bandages. He kept his encounter a closely guarded secret, confiding in no one.

Thereafter, he maintained a sullen silence, harboring anger towards all his family members, including his brothers and parents. Since they had not listened to him before, he believed they would not listen to him now.
