Chapter 4 - Exploring The Rain Forest (1)

Uriel smiled at me as she gazed at the status panel. "Did I just make a god? Does that mean I'm some kind of mega-god?"

'Isn't she taking this a bit too lightly?'

Normally, I might've been paranoid if something like this happened, since there was no way the other gods wouldn't know. But I was blessed by the stars now. Meaning, unless they had a justifiable reason to kill me, none of them could touch me.

I glanced over my shoulder at the goddess, who merely blinked. "What?"

"Well, aren't you going to say anything else?"

She closed her eyes thoughtfully, lips pressed together. After a moment, her eyes snapped open. "Oh, right, your transmigration."

'That's not what I was talking about, but whatever.'

I looked once more at my status window. For some reason, the glow around it seemed even brighter. Perhaps it was just my imagination.

"One more thing, great traveler; please don't destroy the world when you get there. And I wish you peace, prosperity, chaos, and a good life."

This was by far the weirdest transmigration I'd experienced in a while, but not a bad one.

I let out a faint smile, but before I could say anything, the wind holding me in the air vanished, and I plummeted toward the ground below.

However, I didn't hit it. Instead, I passed straight through, falling farther toward the clouds.

The wind whipped against my skin, creating a faint whistling sound. A full moon hung high above, bathing the clouds in a ghostly glow.

"For fuck's sake, why can't I just wake up in a soft bed like every other protagonist?!"

The wind roared past me as the shimmering remnants of the goddess's realm faded above. Somewhere below, blurry horizons began to take shape: forests, mountains, and vast landscapes that clearly didn't belong to Earth.

"Hey, Uriel! Can I get a parachute or something?"

I exhaled sharply. "Can you explain why I'm not entering the body?"

'So it's my own body, not his.' That was a relief. One of the reasons I hated transmigration was the thought of living in someone else's flesh, a body that had been touched, scarred, or worse. No one ever talked about how disgusting that was.

"Guess I'm going to test out my regeneration sooner than planned."

I shifted my posture, twisting my body so I could move with the wind pressure. 'Phew, here goes nothing.'

Suddenly, a thought crossed my mind. I had the ability to change a law, so why feel the pain of falling while alerting possible enemies?

I closed my eyes for a moment and silenced everything around me, the wind, the trees, the distant growls of monsters. All of it.

Changing a law in the world sounded simple because it actually was. At least, according to the part of Uriel's novel I'd read. All you needed was to will it and use your trigger, and it would happen.

And my trigger?

Inner voice.

I just needed to make my inner voice declare the new law aloud.

«From now on, if I fall, it shall make no sound and cause no pain.»

I felt a surge of energy rush through me, like running a marathon or playing the best game of my life. 'So this is how it feels?'

As the sensation settled, the world went still, blue light spilling through everything, casting an indigo hue. The phenomenon lasted only a moment. When it ended, the world resumed, and I drew closer to the ground.

'Let's hope it works.'

Spreading my arms like wings, I inhaled deeply as the scent of rain and fresh grass filled my nose.

As I descended within meters of the ground, I twisted again, ready to roll upon impact. With a barely audible thud, I landed softly.

No sound, no backlash, just sand lifting lightly from the ground.

I rose to my feet and deactivated the order I'd previously placed upon the world. A brief throb of pain pulsed through my head, but it vanished just as quickly.

"Seems regeneration's doing its job." I grinned. Now I knew my ability functioned properly.

Lifting my bare feet from the damp soil, I scanned the surroundings. It seemed I stood at the edge of a cliff since there was nothing behind me. Ahead stretched towering trees, so tall and eerie they looked almost unreal.

"You said this was the Rain Forest, right?"

'Àvalor. According to the story, that was one of the four sections located at each cardinal point of the world.'

Àvalor was to the east, Babylon to the south, Korinth to the west, and Antarctica to the north.

"That means…"
