Chapter 321: The Unstable Genesis Planet

"They must have discovered the signal emitted by Spock's remains and judged its value to far exceed this broken ship!" Kirk instantly reached a conclusion, a chill creeping down his spine. "They arrived earlier than us, and are very likely on their way to the signal source right now! They might even have it already!"

He didn't dare delay another second.

"Mann, leave two people to guard the shuttle, establish a defensive position, and maintain a communication relay! The rest of you, converge on us immediately! We must rush to the signal source right now!" Kirk ordered rapidly.

"Copy that!" Mann didn't hesitate, immediately assigning Rebecca and Pilar to stay behind, while he took Valerie, Jack, Dorio, Falco, and Mael to quickly evacuate the Klingon wreckage and sprint toward the shuttle.

Soon, the two teams converged.

Kirk glanced at Rebecca and Pilar who were staying behind, nodded, and then waved his hand: "Everyone, keep up! Quickly!"

With the remaining members of Mann's squad acting as point and flank guards, Kirk, Akira, Carol, and McCoy were positioned in the center of the formation. The group began a forced march toward the location of the photon torpedo beacon locked on by the Enterprise's sensors.

Underfoot was soft or sharp newly formed soil and rock. Surrounding them was a silent and unfamiliar alien ecological environment, the air filled with ozone and some kind of cloying organic fragrance.

But at this moment, everyone's nerves were taut, their eyes constantly scanning the crystal clusters and jagged rocks around them that might hide enemies.

Akira's mechanical body emitted a low hum as it moved. His sensors were fully active, monitoring any energy fluctuations or life signs in the environment.

The team moved quickly through the strange and unfamiliar environment. Underfoot were newborn, colorful lichen-like plants that let out a faint squelching sound when stepped on. The air was thick with a pungent smell, a mixture of ozone, sulfides, and some kind of cloying pollen.

Towering crystal clusters around them occasionally refracted shifting lights, and a low vibration, like the pulse of the earth, came from afar.

Akira's massive mechanical body did not stop working while on the move; the sensors covering his body continuously collected environmental data.

Suddenly, his voice rang out on the team's communication channel, breaking the silence of only footsteps and breathing: "Environmental scans indicate an anomaly. The energy release rate, geological activity frequency, and the evolutionary speed of biological signals on this planet all far exceed any reasonable model of natural evolution."

His voice carried a cold analytical tone. "According to my preliminary calculations, the space-time here seems to be in a highly compressed state, forcibly compressing a planetary evolution process that should span millions of years into a scale of months or even days."

Carol explained to him: "This is exactly one of the known side effects of the 'Genesis Device'—'accelerated evolution'. While the device's energy reshapes the planet, it also drastically accelerates its evolutionary speed."

Akira's optical lenses turned to her, posing a sharper question: "Then, what is the decay rate of this unstable state? According to the theoretical model of the 'Genesis Project', how long is this rapid change expected to last?

More importantly, will such violent energy release and material reorganization prematurely deplete the planet's core energy, causing it to enter decline in a very short time? Current data is insufficient to support a reliable prediction."

His concerns were not unfounded.

In his database, any process that violated natural laws and was forcibly accelerated was often accompanied by huge hidden dangers and backlash.

Carol's answer carried a hint of uncertainty: "Theoretical models predict that this accelerated evolution will gradually decay as the energy of the 'Genesis Particles' dissipates, eventually stopping and allowing the planet to enter a normal, slow evolutionary track. But..."

She paused, her tone becoming heavier, "We lack long-term observation data on a real planet. Genesis is the first successful and only case, and it is still so 'young'.

Is its internal energy balance as stable as the model predicts? How great is the entropy increase effect brought about by this forced compression of time?

I... cannot give a definite answer. Perhaps it really will be like a prematurely aging infant, aging rapidly after a brief bloom of vitality."

This conversation made the atmosphere in the team even more solemn.

Not only did they have to track the dangerous Klingons and find Spock's remains in an unstable, rapidly changing environment, but they also had to face the unknown disasters that the planet beneath their feet might unleash at any moment.

This planet was like a ticking time bomb. No one knew when it would run out of energy, or when that compressed space-time would produce a more violent distortion.

"Stay alert, pick up the pace!" Kirk's voice came through, carrying an unquestionable determination that pulled everyone's thoughts back to the most pressing task at hand. "No matter what the future holds for this planet, our current goal remains unchanged!"

The team fell silent again, with only the sound of hurried footsteps and breathing echoing.

The group passed through a bizarre woodland growing with glowing vines and giant purple fungi, and their vision suddenly opened up to a wide clearing covered in jagged rocks.

And right in this clearing, they saw their target—a group of fiercely featured Klingon soldiers clad in heavy armor.

They seemed to be cornering a target, a thin, small figure wearing tattered clothes, with pointed ears and a typical Vulcan haircut... a child?

The child moved with unusual agility, weaving between the rocks to evade the Klingons' grasp, but he was clearly exhausted and backed into a corner.

The moment Kirk and the others appeared, the Klingons immediately spotted them too.

Unexpectedly, these Klingons did not hesitate or issue any warnings. As soon as they discovered the new intruders, the leading squad captain let out a savage war cry, raised his disruptor, and fired in their direction! A crimson energy beam grazed past the rocks.

"Fire!" Kirk ordered without hesitation, simultaneously seeking cover.

However, the ensuing battle scene made the group from the Warhammer universe and the Cyberpunk world feel a bit... absurd.

In the eyes of Akira and Mann's squad, these Klingons' tactical movements were rough, their coordination clumsy, their shooting accuracy low, and their charges completely disorganized, relying entirely on brute courage.

Their seemingly fierce appearance and wild war cries formed a stark contrast with their actual combat effectiveness.

"Is that it?" Rebecca even had time to utter a sarcastic remark. She didn't even use her shoulder-mounted plasma bombardment cannon; simply using her arm-mounted bolter for precise burst fire, she easily suppressed two Klingons attempting to charge.
