Chapter 127 - Chapter 126: He Remembered

Besides Peggy, Dr. Abraham Erskine was the person Steve felt most indebted to in his life. And now… he had failed his mentor.

At this moment, the old man's identity was about to be revealed.

Steve noticed tears glistening in the old man's eyes and felt a pang of heartache. Could it be…?

"Did something happen to him? What happened?" Steve asked urgently, clutching the old man's hand.

The elder sighed deeply, his voice trembling. Even now, he could not forgive himself.

"He died… killed by a HYDRA mole who ambushed him."

The old man gazed at the lake, grief etched deep in his face.

"What! HYDRA… killed him?"

Steve's eyes widened. His worst fears confirmed.

Why? Why can't the good survive? Why do villains always get away?

He had such power now, yet he couldn't even save his benefactor. What was the use of this power?

Hate. Rage. Helplessness. It all erupted.

Boom!!

A crimson beam shot from Steve's eyes, smashing into the lake. Waves over ten meters high surged into the sky, spraying water in all directions.

The old man was shocked. This… this was far beyond what he had imagined.

He had seen Red Giant Steve in videos and assumed he was just a Hulk-level brute. He never expected this.

Steve's emotions were a powder keg, ready to explode. A tiny spark ignited boundless fury.

Killing intent radiated from him in waves so strong that even migratory birds in the distance froze, then fell lifeless from the trees.

Passersby screamed, cold sweat streaming down their faces, fleeing in terror.

The old man knew he had to act fast. Steve's neck was flushing red, eyes bloodshot — if he lost control, the destruction would be catastrophic.

"Steve! Steve! Wake up! Wake up!!" the old man shouted.

"He was content in the end, do you understand? You are his most satisfactory result. His hope lives in you!"

"For a scientist like him, death isn't frightening. What is frightening is seeing your work amount to nothing!"

"You must live well, carry his will, and be a person who contributes to your country. You have already avenged him."

Slowly, Steve's breathing returned to normal. Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!

"What happened after I became a Super Soldier?" he asked in a muffled voice, still shaken but regaining control.

"A special squad was formed on the front lines — the Howling Commandos. And you were their Captain."

"Under your leadership, they swept through HYDRA bases one by one, cornering Red Skull until he perished alongside you."

The old man's voice trembled with pride and nostalgia, making Steve wonder: had he once been part of the Howling Commandos himself?

"You are…?" Steve asked cautiously.

"You've guessed wrong," the old man replied with a faint smile.

Steve's attention shifted immediately. His mind sharpened, his expression solemn.

"What I care about most… is Peggy still alive?"

His heart pounded like a drum. Hands sweaty, little heart racing.

"Peggy has already met you… she left this city long ago. You both must live separate lives."

Steve froze. Elderly Peggy… time had taken her. For her, no regrets, no more unfinished business.

Preserving the most beautiful memories was the right thing.

"No more meetings. No debts to repay."

"Is this… true? That's already a good outcome."

"She has her own family. Seeing her happy… that's enough. I've delayed her enough. I shouldn't interfere."

Steve exhaled, finally letting go. Some things are like sand — easier to release than to clutch.

The old man patted Steve's shoulder heavily.

"Now, your most important duty remains: your brother, Bucky, is waiting. Don't let him slip away again. Your life was given to you by Bucky. He is your family!"

"Bucky… Bucky?" Steve murmured, heart racing.

And then it hit him. Memories flooded back like a tsunami. Who was he? Where had he been? Why had his head hurt so much? Why did his heart ache like this?

Steve clutched his head and wailed. That name — so familiar — so important — drove him to the brink of collapse.

This mental torrent was worse than any physical pain. He writhed, desperate, unable to hold back.

The old man watched quietly. Once the cage of memories broke, Steve would soar, unbound.

"Steve… I believe in you. You have a golden spirit!"

Time crawled forward. Five minutes later, after countless mental impacts, Steve's memories finally shattered their cage.

He remembered.

The little Brooklyn kid who had fought to enlist, the young man who earned Dr. Erskine's trust, the rise of Captain America.

The Howling Commandos. Rescuing POWs. Destroying HYDRA. Eliminating Red Skull.

Bucky. Howard. Erskine. Peggy. Nick Fury. Tony Stark. Stryker. Bolivar. And even Leo, the true master manipulator behind so much chaos.

Each memory flashed before him like a brilliant movie reel.

His eyes cleared. He remembered everything.
