Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: She Is the Darling of the Universe

Most Mutants have only one ability.

Only a rare few—the ones favored by the cosmos itself—are gifted with two… or even more.

Jean Grey had two abilities. She wasn't just gifted—she was chosen.

Logan and Charles exchanged a silent, knowing look.

If someone this powerful fell into the wrong hands, the consequences would be unimaginable.

They couldn't let Jean Grey follow Leo.

He was too dangerous.

Their intel on Leo was crystal clear.

This was the man who had trapped and killed a general, and then casually let the Hulk slaughter hundreds of attackers.

He was ruthless—indifferent to human life.

If they weren't so outmatched by him right now, and if they weren't worried he might team up with Magneto, they would have already tried to take him down.

Still, there were two small comforts.

Leo wasn't a pervert. Just a madman.

And he had weaknesses—they could negotiate with him.

The X-Men often worked with moderate government officials to deal with tricky criminals.

And according to their sources, Leo loved two things: money and beautiful women.

If they paid enough, he would move mountains.

Just ask Tony Stark—Leo had scammed billions off him but also saved his life more than once.

But if Jean Grey followed him?

She'd become another weapon.

A terrifying, unstoppable weapon.

We can't let this happen, both Charles and Logan thought.

Charles took a slow breath, then spoke gently, choosing persuasion over force.

"Mr. Leo, Jean Grey is a Mutant. If she comes with us, she'll be surrounded by others like her. That environment will help her grow."

"If she goes with you, she'll be surrounded by ordinary people. She'll feel isolated… and she could easily be exposed."

He softened his voice further. "Our school can teach her to control and embrace her power. Isn't that what's best for her?"

Then Charles turned to Jean. The real choice had to be hers.

"Jean, at our school, there are many kids your age. You'll have friends. You'll learn to control your abilities. You can become strong—like Captain America, someone the world looks up to."

His words were honeyed, flowing like a practiced melody.

Leo leaned back, arms crossed, watching with an indifferent gaze. Go on, Charles. Sell your dream. It won't work.

Jean Grey stiffened. Her head shook almost instantly.

She was terrified of her powers. Terrified of herself. It was her abilities that had killed her mother.

The thought of being surrounded by other "superpowered freaks" made her stomach twist.

Charles sighed. He'd hoped against hope, but her mind told him the truth.

In the original timeline, he'd erased her memories to take her away.

But now? Leo's presence changed everything. The path of fate was already derailing.

"Professor," Logan growled under his breath, unwilling to accept the outcome. His jaw was tight.

There were too few Mutants. Too many suffered in silence. They needed Jean Grey—someone powerful.

Charles shook his head slowly. "This must be fate. We can't force it. She doesn't belong to us."

Leo leaned forward, his voice suddenly sharp.

"Charles, I'm not exaggerating. If Jean Grey follows your original path, she won't just hurt herself.

She'll bring your entire Mutant race to the edge of extinction—and nearly destroy the Earth itself."

"What?"

Both Charles and Logan stared at him, stunned.

Destroy Earth? Impossible. No single Mutant could wield that kind of power. Not even Magneto.

Leo didn't flinch. "She's awakened Telepathy, yes. And Telekinesis, too. But those are just the beginning."

"Wait—Telepathy and Telekinesis?" Charles muttered, already reeling. Two abilities were rare enough.

Leo's next words made their blood run cold.

"She has a third ability."

Charles and Logan froze.

"Three?" Charles whispered.

"Three?!" Logan exploded. "F*ck! Three abilities?!"

Leo nodded calmly.

They stared at Jean like she was a mythical creature.

They had never, not once, encountered a Mutant with three abilities. This was… unprecedented.

"What's the third?" Charles asked hoarsely. He already sensed it—whatever it was, it wasn't simple.

Leo exhaled softly. "This third ability is not a Mutant ability. It's something far greater."

"Tell us!" Logan barked, tossing his cigar aside.

Jean's eyes dimmed. Another ability? Another burden she didn't want. She looked down, hands clenched.

Leo finally said it.

"She's awakened the Phoenix Force. She's the darling of the entire Multiverse."

Silence.

Even the ever-composed Charles paled slightly.

Logan muttered a quiet, "Holy sh*t…"

The Phoenix Force. A cosmic entity older than creation itself.

Jean Grey wasn't just another gifted Mutant.

She was destiny.
