Two days later, a company dinner brought everyone together — employees, family, and one unexpected guest.
Victor Lang.
He appeared like a ghost — charming, apologetic, claiming he wanted to "make peace."
"I simply wish to apologize publicly," he told Ethan with a flawless smile. "For the misunderstanding."
Clara's stomach churned. She could see through the performance — but the board members couldn't. They ate it up.
At the end of the evening, Ethan cornered him outside. "What's your game, Victor?"
Victor smirked. "Patience, old friend. I'm just here to watch you fall — slowly."
Behind them, Eleanor was watching from the shadows, unreadable.
And inside, one of Ethan's own executives quietly handed Victor a flash drive.
