Tonia's POV
The remainder of my shift passed without incident.
When evening arrived and my work was finished, I contacted Lucien. He picked me up from the hospital parking lot.
Something felt wrong the instant I slid into the passenger seat.
"What have you been up to all day?" I asked, studying his profile.
"Just hanging out with some people," he said vaguely.
His attention remained fixed on the road ahead while mine shifted to examine him more closely. His appearance suggested he had been occupied with something demanding.
That was when I spotted it. A crimson smudge against his neck. Lipstick.
"Lucien, where exactly have you been?" My tone sharpened with concern.
"I already explained. I was with friends."
"You failed to mention these friends were women. What kind of activity results in lipstick prints on your neck?"
His hand shot up to his throat, clearly unaware the mark existed.
"Damn," he muttered, grabbing a tissue to scrub at the stain.
