Kermit' POV
"I'm taking Solace with me," I stated flatly when she finished talking, keeping my eyes fixed on the documents spread across my desk.
The silence that followed told me she hadn't expected that response.
I didn't care. I continued marking my papers and making notes, letting the scratching of my pen fill the quiet space between us.
"Oh... alright," she finally managed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Still, she lingered by the door. I could feel her presence like a weight in the room, waiting for me to look up, to say something more. But I refused to give her that satisfaction.
That familiar ache in my chest begged me to glance her way, to offer some explanation. Instead, I forced myself to focus on the contracts before me, jaw clenched tight.
Eventually, I heard the soft click of the door closing behind her.
Tonia's POV
Sharp pain sliced through my chest as I stood at the window, watching Kermit and Solace climb into their sleek black car.
