The glow from my phone screen made my blood freeze as a message notification appeared over the book I was reading.
'Hello, Tonia. Did you think of me?'
Sterling's name flashed above the text, accompanied by an image that made my stomach drop. It was me at the airport from recently, completely unaware someone was watching.
He had been stalking me even then?
My hands trembled as the implications sank in. Why was he reaching out now?
The doorbell's sharp ring cut through my spiraling thoughts.
I stumbled from the bed toward the living room, my legs still shaky from the threatening message. The children were occupied in their bedroom, their video game sounds echoing down the hallway.
Who would visit Kermit at this hour?
When I opened the door, shock rendered me speechless. Solace stood there, but not the polished version I was accustomed to seeing.
