Kael slumped weakly in front of the television broadcasting breaking news: "DAVINA, WIFE OF FAMOUS TYCOON DAVID YANG, ALLEGEDLY KIDNAPPED BY UNKNOWN ASSAILANTS - POLICE STILL INVESTIGATING." The reporter on screen showed blurry CCTV footage of several men dragging away a struggling woman. Kael's body went limp; even though their relationship had ended, he couldn't bear the thought of Elara in the cruel clutches of Grant.
His phone rang. From the other end came Clara's sobbing voice.
"Kael... I... I don't know where to start," Clara wept. "I only went along with Grant's plan out of spite, but I never imagined he would kidnap Elara!"
Kael suppressed his anger. "Clara, where is Elara?"
"Grant is hiding her in an old warehouse at the port. He... he threatened to hurt Elara if anyone tried to approach," Clara's voice trembled. "I'm sorry, Kael. I never wanted this."
Without a second thought, Kael drove alone to the location Clara mentioned. Upon arriving at the port, he saw a familiar figure already there - David, his face pale with tear-streaked eyes.
"Meyer," Kael greeted in a low voice.
David turned around, his face hard but with visible traces of tears in his eyes. "You got information from Clara too?"
"Let's set aside our egos. What matters now is saving Elara," Kael said, extending his hand.
David looked at him for a moment, then firmly shook Kael's hand. "For Elara."
They quickly planned the rescue. David had his security team and advanced equipment, while Kael knew the ins and outs of the port area from his charity projects.
"When we get in, you focus on finding Elara. I'll deal with Grant," David said.
"No," Kael objected firmly. "We both need to find Elara. Grant just wants to divide our attention. He wants us to fight like we used to."
Finally, they agreed to enter together. With the help of David's team, they infiltrated the old warehouse. Their footsteps echoed in the dark, dusty empty space.
Suddenly, the lights flashed on. Grant stood on the second floor, a victorious smile on his face.
"Excellent! The two men who love Elara coming together!" Grant mocked. "Now let's see who truly deserves her?"
But David and Kael didn't take the bait. They gave a signal, and David's team began attacking from various sides. Chaos erupted within the warehouse.
Amid the commotion, Kael managed to find Elara tied up in a back room. Her face was pale, with a wound on her forehead. His hands trembled as he untied her.
"Elara, are you okay?" Kael asked worriedly.
Elara nodded weakly, her eyes teary. "Forgive me, Kael. For everything. I don't deserve your sacrifice."
Meanwhile, David successfully cornered Grant. But Grant laughed scornfully.
"You think this is a victory? Clara already told me all your company's secrets!"
David stood firm. "I know. I suspected Clara was working for you from the start. But what you didn't know is that I intentionally gave her false information."
Elara was safely brought out by Kael, while David, with his team's help, captured Grant. Outside the warehouse, the three of them stood in an strange silence.
David looked at Kael with deep gratitude. "Thank you. You saved my wife's life."
Kael sighed. "Take good care of her, David. I... I have to go."
Before Kael left, Elara hugged him tightly. "Thank you, Kael. You will always be an important part of my life."
That night, even though Elara was safe, the relationship between the three of them had changed forever. David and Kael might never become best friends, but they learned to respect each other because they both loved Elara. And Elara realized that true love doesn't always mean possession; sometimes, you have to let go for the happiness of the one you love.
