Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Real Power

"Am I going to die?" Kael Silverlight thought to himself, but the next second, a wave of anger surged in his chest.

Not like this!

Not like this, not like this!!

I have to live.

I barely got a second chance. How could I just fall here?

He wanted to explore the world of swords and magic. He wanted to figure out why the red-robed guys could use magic but were still trying to make low-level potions. And what the hell was the Sky-Blessed?

The strength of his will gave him a new burst of energy. A picture suddenly appeared in his mind - a sandglass constellation made of millions of stars.

It was weird, but somehow, Kael Silverlight managed to hold back the strange potion power inside him.

"Talk! How do you feel now?" Felix shook Kael's body like a dead person, shouting over and over.

Elton stood by and said mockingly, "Priest, that kid probably already died."

Felix looked nervous and said, "Still failed again."

That was expected.

Every potion he made killed the test subject. No useful data ever came out of it.

"Looks like we'll have to find a mage for testing," Felix said, looking up at the red moon.

It was late. The red moon was in the middle of the sky, like a thin, sharp blade hanging from the sky, pointing down. It looked like it could fall at any moment, cutting through the surface of the world and letting out all the chaos inside.

Elton was shocked. "He's crazy. He's totally crazy."

Every mage was a treasure in the kingdom. If they attacked a mage, not only would every city's magic tower come after them, but even the kingdom's order officers would get involved. That would be a death wish.

He was about to try to stop them when, out of nowhere, Kael Silverlight's fingers moved.

"Huh?" Elton rubbed his eyes, thinking he was seeing things. Then Kael moved his fingers again. He yelled, "Priest, Kael Silverlight is still alive!"

"What?" Felix was extremely excited. He crouched down and flipped Kael's eyelid. Kael quickly pushed his arm away and said coldly, "What, do you want me to die?"

Kael slowly stood up. His thin body hid a strange kind of power—something supernatural.

The words in front of him started to flicker.

Name: Kael Silverlight.

Age: 16.

Lifespan: 2 days.

Rank 1: The Feastbringer.

Traits:

All aspects of physical strength are greatly improved. You can now get energy for your body's evolution by eating. You heal from non-lethal wounds much faster than normal, but it costs a lot of energy. You gain a wild-like sense of danger and fighting instinct.

Note:

You get a permanent negative effect called "increased appetite." You must keep eating, or you'll become weak and crazy. You need to train your mind. Otherwise, the primal "predator" urge you feel toward living things will be hard to control.

Felix looked at Kael with wide eyes, like he was looking at his own child who had come back to life. He asked, trembling a little, "Kael, how do you feel now?"

Kael looked at his arms, which had gotten a bit stronger, and smiled lightly. "Great. I've never felt better."

There was a feeling of truly controlling power.

That was amazing.

Felix grabbed Kael's hand and said, full of excitement, "Come on, tell me everything."

They sat down. Felix pulled out a notebook and looked like a student waiting for a teacher to speak.

Kael Silverlight thought for a moment.

He wasn't exactly sure how he had digested the Potion. But in any case, the constellation in his mind definitely helped.

After thinking for a while, he said, "Before taking another Potion, the person must prepare for months—either physically or mentally. You can't just swallow it like I did without any preparation."

"Good point. That's something we need to remember," Felix wrote it down. Then he asked quickly, "What kind of preparation do you think the person needs to do?"

Kael Silverlight felt his body change as he said, "I think they need to eat a lot, then fast for one or two days, and repeat that over and over."

"Why?" Felix asked, blinking.

"Because this potion has something to do with hunger," Kael shrugged. "That's the only guess I can make. Oh, by the way, I'm starving. Get me something to eat."

Felix didn't hesitate at all. "Go, give Kael something to eat."

"I want meat," Kael said quickly. "No human meat, okay? I just got into the supernatural world - I don't want to get sick from some weird virus."

Felix laughed. "Don't worry, no one's going to feed you human meat."

Elton told someone to go get Kael something to eat.

Felix asked, "How strong do you feel now?"

"I don't know," Kael Silverlight said, clenching his fists. His arm muscles were tight and defined, like he'd been beaten and trained a thousand times.

Felix thought for a moment and suggested, "How about you fight with one of the Powerbearers?" He pointed to the big guys in the rough cloth.

So these guys were called Powerbearers, huh?

Kael was excited. "Sure, I want to see how strong I am."

Felix clapped his hands. "Good, you've got a real warrior's spirit." He was starting to like Kael more and more. He stayed calm, had talent, and wasn't scared of the unknown. He really wanted to keep Kael around.

"You, yeah, you," Felix pointed to one of the Powerbearers. "Fight Kael."

The guy stepped forward. He was 1.87 meters tall, a full head taller than Kael. His muscles were huge, pushing out the rough cloth. He held a knife in his hand.

Felix introduced, "These Powerbearers have been touched by 'divine blood' during every sacrifice. They're extremely powerful, natural warriors, and they're the reserve members of our Bloodline Cult."

The Bloodline Cult? Maybe it's better called the Heretical Cult.

Kael thought to himself, frowning slightly.

Felix asked, "What's your name?"

"Aedrion," the Powerbearer replied in a deep, rough voice.

Felix said seriously, "Fight well. If you beat Kael, I'll let you take a Potion."

Aedrion's face twitched. He forced a smile and said, "Thank you, Priest Lord."

They had all seen Kael Silverlight's painful situation just now. He almost couldn't make it through. They weren't sure if being offered a Potion was a blessing or a curse.

"Start," Felix said, telling both to get their weapons ready and step back.

Kael Silverlight held his sword and faced Aedrion.

Kael took a deep breath and got into a basic sword stance.

He felt the sword in his hand was light as air, and every tiny movement of Aedrion's muscles and his breathing rhythm were clear in his senses.

This was a feeling he had never had before.

The Potion also boosted his mental power.

"Forgive me," Aedrion growled and launched the attack first.

He marched forward with heavy steps, like a bull charging, and swung his long sword in a straight, no-nonsense downward slash, with a loud wind sound, aiming straight for Kael's face.

This was a strong, power-based attack.

If it had been before, Kael might have tried to dodge and block, looking for a chance.

But now, a strong sense of confidence filled his heart. That was the power the Potion gave him.

Instead of stepping back, Kael shifted sideways, lifting his sword upward at an angle, and skillfully placed the blade against the side of Aedrion's sword.

"Clang!"

The swords hit. A sharp sound, and sparks flew.

Kael didn't go for a direct clash. His improved battle instinct made him stick the sword to Aedrion's blade and then give it a slight shake.

Aedrion's eyes widened. He thought, "No good."

But it was too late.

A strange force from Kael's soft strength actually pulled Aedrion's sword out of his hand, sending him off balance.

Now! Kael's eyes narrowed. His movements were lightning fast. He moved like a fish, getting close to Aedrion quickly.

Aedrion reacted fast and tried to block with a quick horizontal slash, pushing Kael back.

But Kael had already predicted his move. He bent down, and the blade just missed his head.

At the same time, Kael's sword tip struck like a snake, aiming straight at the side of Aedrion's body, which was exposed after the slash.

Aedrion was shocked and only barely managed to twist away.

But Kael's sword changed suddenly, from a thrust to a slap. The sword hit Aedrion's wrist with great force.

"Clang!"

The long sword flew out of Aedrion's hand.

It all happened in just a few breaths. Only three rounds, and the match was over.

Aedrion opened his mouth in shock, looking defeated. "I lost."

Kael Silverlight looked at his sword and smiled.

This Potion really works. His physical strength improved a lot, and most importantly, his body didn't go through any mutation. That was a good sign.

But in just a short time, his hunger got worse.
