Chapter 18 - Upgrading cultivation techniques

**DING DISTRIBUTING SYSTEM REWARD PHOENIX NIRVANA TECHNIQUE**

After the system made its announcement, a flood of information entered my mind. I initially thought this technique would come as a book or manual, but the system instead transferred the entire technique directly into my brain.

I should have asked the system to notify me before doing something like this, but for now, I focused entirely on understanding the technique. Slowly, I managed to make sense of this unfamiliar information, and after what felt like an hour, I had memorized the entire technique.

While recalling everything detailed in the technique, from the main practices to minor steps, I noticed a significant flaw. This technique relies heavily on the concept of nirvana for its operation. However, the issue is that nirvana is a profound concept, deeper than most philosophical ideas in the world. It exists beyond life and death.

The flaw in this technique is its dependence on the idea of the phoenix's rebirth to illustrate nirvana, which is incorrect. While I have never seen a real phoenix, I have heard tales of this magical bird rising from its ashes. However, being reborn from death is not the same as achieving nirvana; it is merely a part of nirvana. Both death and life are aspects of it, as it exists between the two.

From what I learned about spirituality in my past life, I believe the theory that the soul is immortal. The soul is a form of energy that cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, when someone dies, their soul simply leaves that body and enters the cycle of reincarnation. From a typical viewpoint, you might see this as a cycle of death and rebirth, but where does nirvana fit in?

Nirvana is understood only when you examine the cycle of death and reincarnation. For instance, I died on Earth and was reincarnated in a place called Blue Star. Can I claim that I went through nirvana? Someone who looks at the definition might say yes, but those who truly understand would say no. Personally, I would say no; I did not experience nirvana because, regardless of how many bodies I change, I am still the same Vikanshu. I still carry memories and dreams from my previous life.

This raises the question: what changes in nirvana? From my understanding, nirvana is the process of becoming something new and leaving your old self behind. This transformation occurs during many deaths, as people forget their old selves and start fresh. So, you could argue that everyone partially experiences nirvana each time they die.

This technique merely turns that passive process into an active one. The practitioner experiences an artificial nirvana in which their talent and growth advance together. However, the flaw is that they will remain the same, even if they undergo this process multiple times. For example, a person who fears danger will not change, no matter how much they practice this technique to overcome their fear.

Nirvana is about becoming a new version of your old self, including changes to your personality. Life has an inherent quality of evolving into something new, striving for perfection, which creates instability. In contrast, death halts this change and restores stability.

To summarize, nirvana is a process in which life maintains its ability to evolve, even in death and afterward, resulting in the emergence of something new.

After deducing all this, I set out to incorporate this new understanding into the existing technique to address its flaws. This was a tiring task; after what felt like another hour, I completed the improved version of the Phoenix Nirvana technique. However, this name no longer fits, as the new version focuses solely on the concept of pure nirvana. I decided to call it the Nirvana Qi Refining Technique.

Once everything was finalized, I instructed the system to replace the existing technique with this updated version. It responded, "Host, I know you put a lot of effort into studying this technique, but you don't have to lie. This is an immortal-level technique, and simply memorizing it in just three hours is an impossible feat."

I felt a bit hurt by its reply and said, "Rather than questioning my abilities, you should try this improved technique. I named it the Nirvana Qi Refining Technique."

"Host, changing its name does not change anything. However, for your sake, I will analyze it. You can call it whatever you want," the system replied.

With that, the system fell silent, clearly focused on analyzing this revised version. An hour later, it expressed surprise, saying, "Host, tell me the truth. What did you do to it? Even after analyzing for half an hour, I can only understand a small part of it. It is completely different from the previous technique. For further analysis, I need full access to my computing power, so I may be unresponsive for a while."

It then initiated a system protocol:

"DING ANALYZING AN UNKNOWN TECHNIQUE"

"ANALYSIS PROCESS 30%"

"ANALYSIS PROCESS 50%"

"ANALYSIS PROCESS 90%"

"ANALYSIS PROCESS 100%"

"ANALYSIS PROCESS COMPLETED, STATUS OF TECHNIQUE"

"Name: Nirvana Qi Refining Technique

Grade: Unknown"

After classifying this technique as unknown and changing its name, the system said, "Host, what kind of being are you? Even the greatest immortals and archmage lords in the upper realm cannot create a technique related to such a significant law like nirvana."

Feeling a bit smug from its words, I replied, "I didn't do much. I simply infused my knowledge of nirvana into it to correct its flaws, which upgraded it to a new rank. I also modified its levels; unlike the previous technique, which could only be practiced up to nine levels, this one has no such limit and can theoretically be practiced up to infinite levels, although each level may increase in difficulty."

"Hey system, while I'm at it, why not improve other techniques as well?"

The system responded, "Host, do you still have the energy to enhance other techniques? Why don't you take a break?"

I replied, "No, system. Starting tomorrow, I need to teach Lu Xiaoran, so we need to finish all of this today. Now, send me information about all other techniques. I don't have the whole day to chat with you."
