Chapter 39 - ABOMINATION(7)

Ethan: (Just in case.)

He drew the gun from his pocket and aimed it at the lifeless body.

From the corner of her eye, Elin caught movement high above them.

Her pupils shrank.

Elin: "LOOK OUT!"

Both Ethan and Elin jumped back.

*Thud*

Another sorry lump of flesh slammed into the pavement right between them.

Dylan whipped around.

It looked strikingly similar to the first one. Appendages sprouted where they shouldn't belong. Its head twisted ninety degrees with a sickening crack. The same hollowed eyes staring through them and that twisted, almost forced smile stretched across its face.

As Dylan was about to intercept the creature–

A searing pain stung his calf, making his leg jerk.

He looked down. The first creature crawled back behind him sinking its jaw into his leg.

The bullet hole between its forehead was already closing inwards, pale white light flowed through the wound.

Dylan: (This mutt.)

Without hesitation he lifted his bat.

Dylan: "Strike."

The bat plunged down like a guillotine, cleaving through creature's head and into the pavement.

A moment later the same white glow began to appear.

Dylan gritted his teeth.

Dylan: (They're not that strong but the regeneration sure is something.)

He tried to pull his bat free, but couldn't. The concrete held it tightly in its grasp.

As the second creature rose he abandoned his bat without a second thought.

His leg whipped around in a brutal side kick.

The kick caved into its torso, yet before it could be launched away, its elongated arms latched around Dylan's leg in desperation.

Its jaw opened wide.

Ethan: "Two seconds!"

Before the creature got a chance to bite–

Dylan grabbed its neck and yanked it off, like an overgrown carrot, hurling it towards the glowing orb of pure mana.

The orb shot out colliding with the creature midair.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion erupted. Blue particles swallowed the entire street.

Ethan lowered his hand, staring at the aftermath. Nothing remained, no bone, no limbs not even a stray piece of flesh. It was undoubtedly a complete annihilation.

Dylan relaxed and turned back to the first creature.

The gaping hole in its head emanated the same pale white glow.

But as a ironic turn of events, the bat lodged through its head was preventing it from fully regenerating.

The creature unable to remove the bat wriggled uselessly. Its body twisted violently like a cockroach pinned beneath a nail.

Ethan watched the creature's desperation unfold with a satisfying smirk.

Ethan: (Serves him right.)

Dylan: "What are you waiting for? Kill it, already."

Ethan: "Right. Mana–

His voice cut short as in the middle of the cast another white glow seemingly spawned out of thin air, right in front of him.

He stumbled onto the pavement, scrambling away before picking himself up.

Elin raised her revolver, her finger tightened around the trigger, ready to fire.

Ethan: "No don't, save the bullets."

Elin: (Then what am I supposed to do!)

Elin stopped, and slowly inched behind a nearby wall.

Meanwhile Dylan searched frantically for a makeshift weapon.

His eyes darted across the streets.

He considered a bent road sign, a tree branch. He even considered one of the creature's own limbs but decided against it as they were either difficult to take out or too frail to work as a weapon.

Instead he took inspiration from his ancestors and grabbed a fist-sized rock.

The glow continued expanding forming a small lump of flesh.

Ethan: "Huh?"

Dylan: (It's still regenerating, how?!)

The flesh grew larger, forming the bones first, followed by the muscle and lastly the skin.

Its silhouette was unmistakably of the second creature.

More limbs sprouted from the torso. Stitches crawled across its newly formed skin. Its neck twisted sideways. And that grotesque smile stretched into reality.

Ethan: "What in the Re:Zero is THIS SHIT?!"

Ethan: (Even Deadpool can't pull this off.)

The creature's fingers twitched as its hollowed eyes stared through them.

And somehow through sheer plot armour or power of friendship, the creature began to mov–

Dylan: "Strike!"

Oh, nevermind. Dylan, without a shred of hesitation brutally crushed its head. Talk about spawn camping.

He looked at the fragments of debris lingering in his hand.

Dylan: (I need a proper weapon.)

The same annoying white glow began to appear. As if taunting them.

Dylan quickly tossed away the fragments and dusted his hands.

Dylan: "Any bright ideas? These things aren't particularly strong but they might pose a problem if this drags out."

Ethan looked towards the first creature, still wriggling to escape.

Ethan: "Ya. Wait a minute."

He quickly fell back, rummaging through his bag.

*Clank. Thump.*

Various random items flew out of his bag.

Ethan: (Why did I keep so many things in here?)

Finally he pulled something out. A police baton.

Ethan: "Here."

Ethan offered the police baton.

Dylan: "?"

Ethan: "We can't kill but we can trap it."

Ethan signalled to the first creature.

Dylan: "You should have said that sooner."

He accepted the baton with a confident smile.

As the second creature fully recovered, unaware of the brothers' plan.

A hand shot out, pinning it against a wall. Its limbs desperately searched for footing, while its mouth remained sealed shut.

Elin watched the situation unfold from the sidelines and it strangely reminded her of an NTR.

Elin: (Why do I feel sorry for it?)

Dylan: "Strike."

Dylan thrusted his baton, penetrating through the creature's torso. A second later the same pale white glow kicked in, but the baton prevented it from regenerating fully.

The baton firmly held the creature as it flailed uncontrollably, desperately trying to set itself free.

Dylan stepped back, observing his work.
