Chapter 40 - Chapter 15: Madwoman Reporter

As for what kind of chaos Gotham will descend into after the live broadcast is cut, it's completely beyond Su Ming's consideration. If the chaos can really lure the Bat, then that's perfect.

He picked up Barbara next to him, placed her in a wheelchair, and pushed her into the carriage.

"You acted well; you have the talent to be a female host."

Vico subtly curled her lips to the side. Being able to act is equivalent to being a female host? She had put in a lot of hard work in this field, like makeup, etiquette, and various knowledge, it was really tough for her.

Barbara shivered from the cold, thoroughly soaked by the rain, but her pale lips trembled as she spoke.

"If we do this, my dad will be safe?"

Su Ming gestured for Vico and Pete to get in the car. They were kidnapped, and seeing their reluctance, Cindy started the car.

"I'm not sure, but threatening with my name will at least buy your father some time." Su Ming looked around in the carriage, found a towel, and handed it to Barbara.

"Because this will increase the kidnappers' concerns. Think about the consequences of angering Deathstroke, and they'll reconsider the methods they originally intended to use on Commissioner Gordon, weighing the pros and cons. That's the time we need."

With Cindy pressing the accelerator to the floor, her reflexes making driving effortless, she even had time to join in on the conversation between Su Ming and Barbara.

Barbara nodded and looked gratefully at Su Ming.

"Thank you, you're a good person."

"Forget about the good person card. Once Gordon is rescued, I'll send him the bill." Su Ming shook his head immediately, refusing. A good person card is too inauspicious.

"Haha, you really don't seem like an assassin, you still make jokes."

Su Ming's words were taken as a joke, and Barbara finally relaxed. She felt exhausted, but now had some backbone. The title of the world's strongest mercenary gave her more confidence in Gordon's safety.

Vico sat quietly across from them, watching the two, feeling like the end of the world was surely coming.

A world-famous killer, actually chatting and laughing with the daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner, and performing a bizarre fake death play on live broadcast, made Vico feel the world was too crazy.

Moreover, from what it sounds like, Deathstroke is on his way to rescue Commissioner Gordon, offering a bounty of 2 million just to keep Gordon alive.

"Using murder to save another person, this is the most illogical yet seemingly reasonable thing I've ever heard."

After much deliberation, Vico ignored Pete's eyes urging her not to and initiated a conversation with Su Ming.

Su Ming looked at her. She hadn't appeared on camera the whole time; maybe the TV station thought she was dead by now? But so quickly reverting to her professional habit, had she forgotten the sense of fear?

"Kill one to save one, this is the way of balance. I'm doing what I should do."

He took off his helmet, making the car warmer, the moisture condensed in the helmet like a steamer, he never thought wearing a uniform could be so uncomfortable.

Even though Vera was surprised by his male identity, it was only for a moment. She dutifully asked, "So do you think you're insane, Mr. Deathstroke? Have you ever thought there's something not normal about yourself?"

Pete widened his eyes; this was a life-risking question!

Su Ming showed some interest, as this question was once asked to Batman by her from another world.

"Then do you think this world is normal?" He had read the comics and gave the standard answer, which was to counter-question.

Sure enough, this answer made Vico contemplative, she frowned and remained silent.

Pete, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief. Damn, he was definitely quitting after this, no matter how much they'd pay him, it was too much excitement.

But Cindy, driving, heard Su Ming's theory about balance. She didn't know he was talking nonsense, rather she found it philosophical, like those proverbs from the Eastern Ancient Country.

The car sped forward in the heavy rain, passing through streets and alleys, even encountering some robbers or highwaymen who emerged seeking prey in the storm. But as soon as Cindy poked her head from the window, all the thugs were scared away, rolling in a panic.

After such a long period of easing on the road, Vico was not as fearful. She realized Deathstroke didn't seem as crazy as rumors claimed, and instead held his own understanding and unique perception of the world.

Seeing the road-blocking thugs flee, she sighed in disappointment. If Deathstroke had fought them, maybe she could've shot some extra footage or something.

"You seem disappointed? Do you enjoy watching people kill?" Su Ming keenly noticed her subtle sigh.

"No, not really." Vico shook her head. "I just wanted to shoot some action scenes; the audience loves it."

"Well, since you want to shoot, if later we find clues about the people who kidnapped Gordon and go on a slaughter in their lair, you can film it, as long as your burly man beside you doesn't throw up."

Su Ming offered her some compensation. After all, she was a lucky star from DC, better not to offend too harshly. But as for Pete beside her, just seeing a big man around 190 cm squirming timidly was nauseating enough for Su Ming.

"Great! He'll be fine... right, Pete?!"

Under Vico's imposing gaze, the burly guy agreed with a vulnerable expression, causing Su Ming to turn his head, he felt like vomiting.

Vico nodded in satisfaction, squeezing between Barbara and Su Ming.

"Thanks. If that actually happens, I'll have an exclusive news!"

"Mutual benefit. We mercenaries sometimes need some advertisement, and the TV station is a good platform."

If this world still had a future, Su Ming wouldn't mind getting some business for himself or Cindy.

Vico's eyes lit up. She pulled out a small notebook from her pocket, prepared to interview, making Su Ming laugh bitterly.

"I thought you were a TV station reporter."

"TV stations can use pen records too. So, Mr. Deathstroke, do you mind revealing your relationship with the other Deathstroke driving? Or are you not actually Deathstroke, but she is?"

Cindy let out a proud laugh, see, everyone thinks she's the real one, while Su Ming seemed more like the villainous version of the Bat.

Su Ming sighed, he just didn't want to kill the innocent, he drew the knife from his back: "Seems like it's better to just kill you all..."

"No!!!"

"Kidding, Batwoman likes you. You're adored by all the lunatics in town. Maybe Jester watches your news reports every day in Arkham." Su Ming sheathed the knife again, indiscriminate killing wasn't his style.

Mentioning Bat Heroine, Vico suddenly perked up, eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Oh? Really? But why hasn't she come to find me? If I leave an address and phone number, can you pass it on to her? I'd like to do an exclusive interview with her."

"Who are you talking about? Bat or Jester?"

"Either is fine." Vico displayed a greedy expression, licking her lips like the middle-aged uncles from Su Ming's previous world who told dirty jokes.

"You are quite the crazy woman too; is there anyone normal in this city?" Su Ming was both amused and exasperated.

The carriage was filled with a cheerful atmosphere, leaving only Barbara unsure what expression to make. At the mention of Jester, she felt a pain in her back again.
