Chapter 8 - 8

The day of the Spring Festival arrived, and Hanamori High was buzzing with excitement. Colorful stalls lined the courtyard, music floated through the air, and laughter echoed from every corner.

Aiko adjusted her dress nervously, smoothing out the fabric one more time. Her cheeks were already pink—not just from the excitement, but because she knew Ren would be there.

And there he was, standing near the piano setup, looking calm and effortlessly handsome in his uniform. He noticed her instantly and gave a small, approving smile.

"You look… nice," he said quietly as she approached.

Aiko's heart leapt. "Th-Thank you! You look… good too." She fidgeted with the strap of her bag, trying to hide her blush.

Their first stop was the food stalls. Aiko grabbed a cotton candy, twirling the pink fluff between her fingers. Ren picked up a small snack, and they walked side by side, weaving through the crowd.

"You're really good at picking these spots," Aiko said with a laugh.

Ren shrugged, a faint smirk on his face. "I want you to enjoy yourself. That's all."

At the game stalls, Ren challenged her to a ring toss. Aiko missed her first attempt, giggling as she tried again. On her third try, she won a small stuffed bunny.

"I did it!" she cheered, holding it up.

Ren smiled warmly. "See? I knew you could." He handed her a small prize he had won earlier—a tiny charm shaped like a star.

Their eyes met for a brief moment, and Aiko's heart fluttered wildly. She tucked the charm into her pocket, feeling a warm glow inside.

The day continued with laughter, games, and playful teasing. At the piano corner, Ren played a soft tune, and Aiko couldn't help but watch him in awe. The music seemed to float around them, filling the air with a magic that made her chest ache pleasantly.

"You're… amazing," she whispered, almost to herself.

Ren glanced at her, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "Not as amazing as you."

Aiko felt her face heat up. For a moment, words weren't necessary—the look in his eyes, the gentle curve of his smile, and the warmth between them said more than either could voice.

By the time the festival lights began to twinkle, Aiko and Ren walked home together, side by side. Their shoulders brushed lightly, and though neither spoke much, the silence was comfortable—filled with small heartbeats and the unspoken magic of their first festival date.
