Vivian's POV
My chest tightened as I avoided his gaze completely.
"Hello, Liam," Grace greeted him with a knowing smile. "I see you've been shopping."
A low chuckle rumbled from his throat. "Something like that."
I stayed silent, frozen in place, my eyes fixed on the expensive envelope in my hands.
This was overwhelming. Far too much for someone like me, even if he meant nothing romantic by it. Grace leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I should probably head out, honey. Are you going to be alright?"
My throat felt dry when I tried to speak. After a few seconds of silence, I managed to croak out, "Yeah." I forced my lips into what I hoped looked like a smile. "Thanks for staying with me, Grace. I mean it."
"Always." Grace stood up, returning my smile even though worry clouded her features. "Call me tonight?"
"I will."
I kept my head down as she left. Looking up would mean facing Liam, who remained planted by the doorway.
