The corps survey was pinned flat across the workshop's long wall now, four sheets joined edge to edge with paste, every road and river and village of four provinces on it in Eden's color and Jayde's. Two days ago it had been an empty map. It was not empty any longer. There were chalk crosses on it, small and white, and every one of them was a village hall where somebody had said the word testing in the hearing of somebody who had told somebody else.
Jayde stood back from the wall and counted them again.
