Chapter 3 - The Silent City

Amalia walks towards the gates of the City of Viscaria, noticing something amiss.

The gates which should be usually overlooked by guards is empty with a few abandoned caravans around but, she continues towards it and peeks inside peeks inside the city.

Looking around inside from the city gates she spots nothing.

The foliage around is untampered and the city around 20 meters away is brightly lit.

Amalia though is not worried, although fairly rare She has seen a few city gates that are unguarded, and continues into the city.

Getting into the city, she walks looking around the street passing by multiple commercial and residential buildings, built with bricks and mortar.

"Gotta find a place to stay" Amalia mumbles to herself.

After a few minutes of walking around she notices something.

The city was unsually quiet. There is no sounds other than her own footsteps.

No sounds of crickets, barking of dogs nor meowing of cats.

The streets were also extremely empty for a well lit city even at night.

It is as if the city is stuck in time. Though no concrete speculations to the state of the city.

After a bit more walking, knocking in every inn she sees but not getting a response, she finds an open inn and goes inside.

"Well! Goodnight there young lady!" A woman inside the inn greets Amalia.

Amalia jumps a bit from the enthusiastic greeting and spots a woman with flowing black hair sitting behind a wooden reception table.

"W-Well.. Goodnight there.." Amalia responds, surprised from her enthusiasm.

"Room for one please" Amalia politely requests.

"Alrighty! That will be 20 silver coins a night" the woman states

"It's fine" Amalia responds as she hands her 20 silver coins

The woman takes the coins handed and stands up to grab a room key for amalia.

"May i ask something?" Amalia asks.

"Hm? What is it?" The innkeeper responds as she hands Amalia the key to her room.

"The city is so.. empty. Did something happen?" Amalia asks whilst taking the key from the innkeeper.

"Disappearances.. a lot of them." The innkeeper answers.

"Huh.. guess they are focusing on investigating that right?" Amalia questions.

"Yeah.. that's why the city is so quiet. No one trusts anyone. But.. business is business, i don't want to go broke so here i am." She responds

"I know the feeling. Thanks.. see you tomorrow" Amalia says offering her gratitude and sorry as she leaves and walks to her room"

Entering her room. Has all the essentials. It is nothing espescial

Laying down the bed Amalia goes into deep thought.

Something is definitely wrong in this city. I don't know why, but there is something wrong.

As she think of all the possibilities. She slowly drifts to sleep for that problem future her to solve.
