"The GX Tournament?"
Yugen held a small circular silver badge in his hand, clearly engraved with the letters "GX." It felt heavy and substantial to the touch.
"Yeah, it's the competition your principal is organizing."
Keihei sat nearby, chewing gum, with his legs casually crossed.
"The location is at Duel Academy, and it lasts until the end of the current academic year. I took a look, and it's quite a significant event, a long-term competition.
The prize money invested in the tournament is unprecedented even among global dueling competitions, so it will definitely attract attention and become a hot topic."
Yugen remembered. There seemed to be such a competition in the second year of the GX animation, organized after Principal Jiaodao returned from traveling the world for half a year.
It seemed that Principal Jiaodao's main work during his travels over the past half year was organizing this tournament. According to the principal himself, he invited capable duelists from around the world to participate.
The participants of this grand tournament come from several sources. First, all students from the main Duel Academy campus are required to enter, and it's directly tied to their grades. Students from branch schools, including the Northern Branch, are also participating.
Active players in professional leagues can easily qualify for entry as well. As long as interested players submit an application, it will likely be approved. Finally, there are duelists personally invited by Principal Jiaodao during his travels.
However, the format and rules of the GX Tournament mean that the outcome may not necessarily reflect the duelist's true skill level. Strong participants might not achieve the top rankings.
For instance, based on the original result, Chazz Princeton ultimately won the championship. But there were many stronger participants, such as Saio, Hell Caesar, and Ed, not to mention Judai, who was unlikely to miss the event.
Even within the academy, students like Fubuki, Asuka, and Mitsuzawa have proven stronger than Chazz in actual combat.
But the GX Tournament's outcome is not determined by direct duels between participants. Instead, it depends on who has the most GX Badges. The dueling stage is the entire Duel Academy Island, and participants can freely challenge each other, with the winner taking the GX Badge from the loser.
So obviously, in this competition, being strategic is more important than just being able to duel.
For example, Judai is the most well-known strong player in the academy, so no one dares to challenge him. Even if he tries to find opponents, others flee as soon as they see him, so he hardly gets any duels. In the animation, he's even bored to the point of fishing by the river.
"But if the principal is organizing the tournament, why haven't we heard about it, yet you already have a badge?" Yugen asked, looking at Keihei.
Keihei proudly patted his chest: "You don't know, do you? I'm the chairman of the official duel event review committee. Any large-scale duel event needs to get my approval first."
Yugen nodded.
Hmm, with the Kaiba Family having a major influence in the Dueling Realm, that makes sense.
"Yugen, are you planning to participate?" Keihei asked him.
"Technically, all students on campus are supposed to participate," Yugen replied.
"Yeah, but your situation is special. Even if you don't join, I doubt they'd expel you," Keihei joked.
"Well, I should still show respect to the principal." Yugen smiled and said, "If I finish my other tasks by then, I might come and take a look... Wait a moment."
Yugen stepped aside, pressing his earpiece.
"It's me."
Although he spoke normally, on the other end of the communication, a low, hoarse, peculiar voice was heard. It was a voice modulated to fit the persona of Revolver.
"Leader! Leader, where are you?"
It was Kurosaki's voice, anxiously speaking.
"There's an unbelievable guy at our doorstep claiming to be from the Light Association. It's kind of strange. He can phase through the ground and breathe fire, with some powerful-looking elf. He specifically wants to see you..."
Yugen squinted his eyes.
Interesting, someone's challenging our place.
"Alright, I understand. Hold him off, I'll be there soon."
Although Yugen didn't pay much attention to the Hanuo Knights organization, since someone was challenging, he still needed to maintain his Revolver persona.
Moreover, someone who can phase through the ground and breathe fire...
Easily made Yugen think of the two missing Emperor Spirits he still needed.
Isn't this a delivery right to his doorstep?
...
...
The one swaggeringly entering the club to issue a challenge was, of course, Iwamaru, the strongest under Mizuchi's four great emperors of the Light Association.
"You're looking for me, and here I am."
Yugen, now dressed in his Revolver attire, strode into the club. Seeing their leader return, the club members around him instantly regained their morale, standing much straighter.
Iwamaru was standing in the middle of the club.
He looked Yugen up and down as he entered.
"Are you Revolver?"
"Yes, I am." Yugen smiled, "I heard there's a card battle with someone coming to challenge, so here I am."
"As expected, confident as the rumors say, but it won't last long." Iwamaru's eyes flashed with determination, "Now I possess the Power of Four Emperors, the ultimate emperor power. I won't lose to anyone anymore."
He glanced down at his card deck, muttering to himself.
"Watch, Lord Mizuchi. This time, I won't disappoint you."
"Duel!" x2
[Yugen, LP 4000]
[Iwamaru, LP 4000]
"I'll start with the first move. My turn, draw!"
Iwamaru secured the first move.
"I summon 'Ore Giant' in attack position!" (Original Card)
The golden giant covered in minerals appeared on his field, beating its chest like a gorilla.
[Ore Giant, Attack Power 1000]
"Next, I activate the Continuous Magic 'Guiding Ore Vein'!" (Original Card)
A Magic Card was inserted into the Duel Disc, and the ground beneath them shook as if an earthquake had struck. A cave made of minerals erupted from the ground behind Iwamaru.
"Guiding Ore Vein is a Continuous Magic card exclusive for the Rock Race," Iwamaru explained, "In the vein, whenever a rock race monster on my field is destroyed, I can Special Summon a monster with the same name from the card deck!"
Though Iwamaru possessed the Power of Four Emperors, he was most proficient with his exclusive Earth Emperor. Many of the cards in his deck were tied to the Earth Emperor, even if not made into Physical Cards yet.
"I'll end my turn with one card facedown."
"Then it's my turn, draw."
Yugen glanced at the card he drew and calmly revealed it.
"Magic Card 'Take Over 5,' sending the top five cards from the deck to the graveyard."
He chose five cards, briefly glanced at them, then swiftly sent them all to the graveyard.
"Next, I normally summon 'Leader Zarug'."
