Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Half a Month Later

The so-called Reflective Heart Technique involves transmitting one's inner emotions and thoughts to the opponent through the eyes, using mental power.

By doing so, it disturbs the target's senses and subsequently affects their judgment.

On the surface, it appears to be a perfectly normal visual genjutsu, but upon true understanding, one realizes it's nothing of the sort.

The most obvious discrepancy is that its learning difficulty is completely disproportionate to its genjutsu effect.

According to the scroll, the Reflective Heart Technique has an A-rank learning difficulty, yet its actual effect can't even compare to some C-rank genjutsu of the same type.

If his previous life's parents had wanted to learn genjutsu, they wouldn't have chosen this one at all.

But they did.

And they carefully treasured it.

The reason for this is singular: the technique can help members of the Uchiha clan awaken the Sharingan.

Uh... at least, that's what's recorded on the scroll.

The ninja world has never lacked farsighted individuals, and the Uchiha clan is no exception.

Long ago, some Uchiha clansmen realized the drawbacks of the Sharingan—not only was it difficult to awaken, but it also easily led to extremism.

So, they began to wonder if there was a more gentle way to awaken the Sharingan, making the process more controllable.

This would not only enhance the Uchiha clan's strength but also bring more stability to the clan.

Thus, the Hyuga clan's Byakugan came into their sights.

As one of the Three Great Dōjutsu, the Byakugan's activation process is much gentler than the Sharingan's.

Even those with less pure bloodlines can gradually activate it after adulthood through arduous training. This is something the Sharingan does not possess.

The Uchiha clan's Sharingan requires intense emotional trauma to awaken.

Once a person reaches adulthood, their worldview is largely set.

They would have experienced most of what they were meant to; unless they encounter another major stimulus, it's virtually impossible for them to awaken the Sharingan after adulthood.

Therefore, they began to consider whether they could start with the Hyuga clan's Byakugan training methods and develop a similar training regimen.

The Reflective Heart Technique was born under these circumstances.

Its principle is to imitate the changes in chakra and mental energy within the brain when the Sharingan activates its hypnotic abilities, reversely stimulating the brain nerves, optic nerves, as well as body cells and mental power, thereby prompting the awakening of the Sharingan.

This is akin to first creating a fertile ground suitable for the Sharingan's existence, and then allowing the bloodline power to take effect, blooming and bearing fruit in this "seedbed."

They succeeded, but they also failed.

They succeeded because the Reflective Heart Technique could indeed assist in awakening the Sharingan, but they failed because its effect was simply too poor.

According to the scroll's records, more than one Uchiha clan member had practiced this technique, but not a single one managed to awaken the Sharingan through it.

If not for the developer's solemn vow that the technique was effective, and if not for the Sharingan-awakened ninja within the clan confirming that it could indeed promote the evolution of the Sharingan to some extent, everyone would probably have thought it was just a benevolent lie.

However, its high learning difficulty and nearly imperceptible effect still rendered it a "chicken rib" – useless but not worth discarding.

After all, Uchiha clan members who had awakened the Sharingan had no need to learn it, and those who hadn't would put in immense effort to learn it without any noticeable results. Given this, how could it not be neglected?

Currently, only a few restless individuals within the Uchiha clan still attempt to practice this technique; others haven't even heard of it. No wonder Kyōmeididn't know about it.

Speaking of which, his previous life's parents collecting this technique also clearly indicates their unwillingness to be ordinary.

Unfortunately, they died on the battlefield before they could master it.

However, Kyōmei will inherit their will, use this technique to awaken the Sharingan, and become the first person in Uchiha history to awaken the Sharingan through this method.

Others might be limited by their aptitude or simply run out of patience, preventing them from mastering the 'Reflective Heart Technique' to a higher level.

But Kyōmei won't. With the proficiency panel, he can clearly see and feel every bit of progress.

Therefore, as long as he confirms its genuine effectiveness, Kyōmei will not give up.

This will be his key to reaching greater heights.

"Phew—"

After taking a deep breath and calming himself, Kyōmei picked up the scrolls containing the Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique and the Reflective Heart Technique, then left the study.

For the next half month, he planned to dedicate half of his energy to training these two ninjutsu and genjutsu.

He didn't aim for mastery, only to become somewhat familiar with them.

Judging by the relatively lively state of the village, the front-line situation probably hasn't completely collapsed, so it's highly unlikely they, as rookies, would be directly sent to the battlefield.

This way, he still had a buffer period. By then, he would master the Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique to serve as a trump card, and incidentally observe the effects of the Reflective Heart Technique.

If possible, it would be best to awaken the Sharingan, giving him an extra layer of self-preservation on the battlefield.

With these thoughts in mind, Kyōmei began his training for the night.

***

In a flash, half a month passed.

It was now the end of September.

At this point, only one week remained until the graduation exam.

After understanding the exam content, Kyōmei immediately requested a week off, preparing to fully dedicate himself to training.

Under normal circumstances, such a leave would be difficult to obtain, but now, as long as the reason was acceptable, Sugiki Ittō wouldn't stand in his way.

Returning home, Kyōmei opened his panel.

[Name: Uchiha Kyōmei

Age: 10

Physique: 5

Spirit: 7

Chakra: 16 (192→372)

Bloodline: Sharingan · Unawakened (51/100)

Skills:

Chakra Cultivation Technique: lv1 (1/200) → lv1 (91/200)

Clone Technique: lv1 (20/200) → lv1 (95/200)

Transformation Technique: lv1 (19/200) → lv1 (94/200)

Substitution Technique: lv1 (18/200) → lv1 (93/200)

*Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique: lv0 (30/100)

*Reflective Heart Technique: lv0 (30/100)

Basic Taijutsu: lv1 (65/200) → lv1 (185/200)

Ninja Tool Throwing: lv2 (42/500) → lv2 (120/500)]

Over the past half month, he persistently practiced the 'Chakra Cultivation Technique' for six hours every night.

Thanks to the powerful effect of lv1, his chakra capacity increased by 12 points daily, totaling 180 points over half a month.

Consequently, his chakra capacity nearly doubled compared to half a month ago, rising from 192 to 372.

The chakra required to perform one of the Three Basic Jutsu is approximately twenty points, so 372 chakra points are enough for him to perform the Three Basic Jutsu eighteen or nineteen times.

This level is generally the peak for average Genin.

In other words, apart from some combat experience, his strength is already on par with veteran Genin.

However, as his chakra grew, Kyōmei also vaguely sensed a limit.

This limit wasn't the limit of the 'Chakra Cultivation Technique,' but rather the limit of his body. The 'Chakra Cultivation Technique' merely accelerated his efficiency in tapping into potential; it didn't directly increase his physical limit. If his body were likened to a wooden barrel, then the 'Chakra Cultivation Technique' would be the ladle used to scoop water.

How much water the barrel could hold didn't depend on the size of the ladle, but solely on the size of the barrel itself.

Physique five! Spirit seven! Clearly, his barrel wasn't big enough. In other words, his body had limits, and his chakra would stagnate after reaching a certain level.

By then, unless his physical limit was raised, even grinding the 'Chakra Cultivation Technique' to its maximum level would be useless.

Fortunately, with the passage of time and his practice of 'Basic Taijutsu,' he could vaguely feel his physique improving. This continuously raised his physical capacity.
