Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Attempt at the Cultivation Task

Mokgetsu first had Obito try climbing a tree.

On the Konoha Eastern Border Forest side, there are plenty of trees, with trees ten meters tall visible everywhere, and even taller ones are not uncommon.

Mokgetsu casually pointed to a twenty-meter tall tree and asked Obito to try gathering Chakra at the feet to climb it.

Obito nodded, took a deep breath, gathered Chakra at his feet, and rushed up.

In one go, Obito dashed up to about ten meters, but then lost control of his Chakra, leaving a footprint in the tree and falling down.

Mokgetsu jumped to catch Obito, nodding internally. Though not at Asuma's level, it was acceptable, at least he didn't fall after just a few steps.

This kind of training is nothing to discuss, it's merely a matter of persistent practice, without any special technique.

After demonstrating a few times, Mokgetsu left a Shadow Clone to oversee, allowing Obito to practice on his own, while he went to find Might Guy, who was training physically.

Among Mokgetsu's three disciples, Might Guy's cultivation project is arguably the most tedious.

When tired of Taijutsu, Obito can switch to some Ninjutsu for a change, but Might Guy's training is either practicing the Leaf Whirlwind or physical training.

Physical training is not something that can be achieved in a day, and Mokgetsu's teaching skills are powerless in this aspect.

His teaching skills can allow Might Guy to learn Taijutsu more quickly and improve it in less time, but they cannot accelerate the effects of Might Guy's training.

The effect of doing one push-up is still the effect of one push-up.

When Mokgetsu walked to Might Guy's side, he was doing push-ups with a stone as big as him on his back.

"Guy, how is your Leaf Whirlwind coming along?" Mokgetsu asked.

He wanted to test the conditions for triggering the cultivation task. Like Obito, Might Guy was at trust level three and was the best choice.

Hearing Mokgetsu's words, Might Guy stopped his actions, maintaining his body position, and replied: "Faster than during the exam, but still not fast enough."

After finishing his answer, Might Guy removed the stone, stood up, and launched a swift Leaf Whirlwind at a stump nearby.

Mokgetsu nodded, compared to before, indeed there was some improvement, the kicks were more decisive and fierce.

He probably learned something from his battle with Hyuga Kamon.

Physical training doesn't show results overnight. Physical improvement is at least a monthly measure.

"How do you think you can improve your strength?" Mokgetsu asked a question that puzzled Might Guy.

"Of course, through cultivation," Might Guy directly spoke his thoughts.

He found Mokgetsu's question strange, to become stronger, one must need persistent cultivation.

Mokgetsu shook his head, and asked again: "Cultivation indeed leads to improvement, and is a critical part of increasing strength, but are there any other methods?"

Might Guy scratched his head and then thought of his progress in the Leaf Whirlwind and the combat exams often held at the Ninja Academy. A flash of insight hit him: "Combat!"

"That's right, combat is also an important aspect of enhancing strength. In combat, you can better transform practice results into your actual strength." Mokgetsu smiled.

"The combat I mentioned is not like the past ones you had with Obito, that wasn't a normal fight."

"To progress, you need to challenge strong opponents and have an upright battle with the stronger ones you wish to challenge."

Listening to Mokgetsu's words, a figure gradually formed in Might Guy's mind.

The person had white hair, constantly wore a mask, known as a super genius in Konoha.

There was no second name - it was the lifelong rival Might Guy recognized: Hatake Kakashi!

Having seen a significant improvement under Mokgetsu, Might Guy had long wanted to challenge Kakashi, but had been restraining himself.

He intended to challenge Kakashi only after he had completely mastered the Leaf Whirlwind.

But now, Might Guy changed his mind. Mastering Leaf Whirlwind doesn't guarantee defeating Kakashi.

Is he afraid of failure? No.

Then why not go fight with Kakashi? It could better enhance his strength.

"Teacher Mokgetsu, I understand now." Might Guy said solemnly.

Seeing Might Guy's expression, Mokgetsu could tell that his guidance was effective. Given Might Guy's proactiveness, perhaps he'd go looking for Kakashi tonight.

However, to Mokgetsu's disappointment, no task was triggered for defeating Kakashi.

"What other condition is there?" Mokgetsu wondered internally.

In terms of the original Hokage story, when it comes to defeating Kakashi, Might Guy certainly had a strong "desire."

The super genius title, the rival status, Might Guy had many reasons to want to defeat Kakashi.

Reflecting on the detail of Obito triggering the cultivation task, Mokgetsu realized a problem.

Obito's attitude was pleading, and he explicitly expressed the need for Mokgetsu's help, stating that only Mokgetsu teaching him a powerful Fire Release would do it.

"Does achieving a result need to involve necessary dependence on the teacher?" Mokgetsu speculated.

If so, it explained why no cultivation task was triggered just now with Might Guy.

Perhaps Might Guy, now full of enthusiasm to challenge Kakashi, had not considered that without Mokgetsu, it would not happen.

With a rough guess, Mokgetsu no longer probed further, intending to wait for Might Guy to fail against Kakashi before taking action.

He wished to let his beaten disciple feel the warmth of a teacher then.

After teaching, Mokgetsu went to his house in the main district.

After dinner, Mokgetsu went to the park where he had previously met Minato and Kushina.

Lucky for him, Mokgetsu encountered Minato and Kushina there again.

Perhaps the locals enjoy coming here, as neither was surprised upon seeing Mokgetsu.

"By the way, you left too fast last time, I forgot to ask you something," Kushina suddenly remembered and asked.

"Did you agree to be a tutor as the Third asked?"

Mokgetsu nodded.

"I heard that the child might be a bit rebellious, doesn't listen to the Third, will he listen to you?" Kushina asked curiously.

Mokgetsu smiled and recounted how he trained Asuma.

Kushina didn't know what Asuma felt about being taught, but she found it amusing.

Especially when Asuma tried to slack off the next day but ended up exhausted from being persuaded back to cultivation, making Kushina exclaim how the wise Third could have such a silly son.

Minato was also surprised by Mokgetsu's teaching methods, amazed that he could get such reluctant students to cooperate for training.

Mokgetsu didn't just talk about himself; he also asked Minato and Kushina about certain things, keeping the conversation pleasant and lively.

Mokgetsu thought that after some time, becoming friends, he could casually show his interest in Fuinjutsu and Curse Seals.
