Chapter 57 - Chapter 55: Graceful Charity from the Heavens

Gift from Heaven, Normal Magic Card. Once activated, both players can draw cards from the deck until they have six cards in hand.

If used with an empty hand, the player can instantly refill six cards in hand, almost like turning the tables with its heaven-defying ability. Truly a divine artifact.

Gift of Pain, Normal Magic Card. Once activated, the player can instantly fill their hand to five cards, but during the preparation stage five turns later, all those cards need to be discarded.

This thing doesn't need much explanation, it's almost on the same level as Gift from Heaven's divine artifact. You can see it clearly from the duel Youyu had with President Haima.

At that time, Haima was out of options, with life points flickering like a candle in the wind, only a face-down Trap Card "Tyrant Wing" on the field. Any ordinary Yugi player would have surrendered by now, as there's no comeback possible in such a situation. But President Haima almost did manage to turn the game around...

The more cards in hand, the greater the possibilities. That's why cards with such incredible draw effects are considered by players as resurrection tools and divine artifacts.

Gift of Pain seems to only be used by President Haima throughout the entire DM animation, so this card might be a special edition for the wealthy, hard to get without special channels.

Yet, Gift from Heaven has been used by many including Muto Yugi, Kujaku Mai, Pegasus, Marik. Theoretically, it should be a common card used for refilling hands in this world, merely an R Card at most.

Logically it should be like this... Yet Youyu has opened over 170 packs, hands cramping from opening, but hasn't seen a single Gift from Heaven...

Logically it shouldn't be like this. Clearly, on the card list of possible pulls on the booster box, Gift from Heaven should be there.

Youyu felt his luck was so bad it could blend in perfectly with natives in Africa, but considering his 20 points of luck value, it's not surprising...

He recently made quite a bit of money, feeling inflated, so he hasn't taken the hundred packs to heart.

But now he's considering whether to give up opening packs and directly spend money to buy three copies of Gift from Heaven...

Directly spending money to purchase specific cards is usually a loss, because the card is specified, so even average-valued cards would be high priced.

Normally, duelists would only spend money on rare cards with extremely low pull rates. Spending money on buying N Cards or R Cards is generally considered a foolish move.

But Youyu has no choice, given his luck of 20...

Besides, he's not the same as when he first crossed over, now with money to spend, he can have a bit of arrogance.

This is nothing. Wait until another week when the game opens and players pour in, he'll have even more money.

Just as he was thinking this, the shopkeeper, Ito Makoto, appeared: "Oh, drawing cards, huh?"

The shopkeeper's image is rather dashing. He's wearing a checkered shirt, shorts, sandals, holding a watermelon juice in his left hand, and a book in his right.

Youyu couldn't help but feel admiration. As a former card designer for Industrial Illusions, perfectly embodying "never too old to learn," still studying diligently at his age...

On a closer look, the title on the book cover seemed to be... "Quick Guide to Picking Up Girls"?

Youyu: "..."

What the heck!

Finding a girlfriend is already difficult, with single guys everywhere, does this old man plan to eat young grass, monopolizing the resources?

Is it tolerable?

... Well, of course, Youyu just felt unfair on behalf of the fellow men.

As for himself?

Good-looking people don't have such worries...

The old man approached, glanced at the pile of card pack wrappers beside Youyu: "Didn't get what you wanted, huh?"

"Yeah, luck's not on my side." Youyu shrugged, then asked, "By the way, do you have 'Gift from Heaven' card, shopkeeper?"

"... Should have, can't remember clearly." The old man asked strangely, "You want this card?"

"Yes." Youyu nodded, "If you have it, could you sell it to me? I need it. I'm willing to pay at market price."

The old man raised an eyebrow suspiciously, "I can, but are you sure you want this? If I recall correctly, 'Gift from Heaven' is just an R Card, usually no one buys cards below rarity SR."

"Yeah, I'm sure." Youyu said firmly, "But my deck needs this card."

The old man, being clever, his eyes twinkled, and he chuckled, "I do have it. But my 'Gift from Heaven' is different from the ones outside, made personally by President Pegasus of Industrial Illusions with the title 'Father of Duel Monsters'.

So you can understand, the value of my collection card is extraordinary. If you insist on buying... three thousand a card, how about it?"

The old man had a mischievous grin.

President Pegasus personally made a collectible card? No way. It's just his nonsense.

To speak of the reason, it's actually a little amusingly simple.

The grandpa had only been back for a few days but already saw that his granddaughter had feelings for Youyu.

If this thing could work out, the old man was quite supportive, because the boy indeed looks quite handsome, even he found him pleasant.

... But the annoying thing is that this blockhead seems completely indifferent to his granddaughter's feelings!

Three thousand was just a casual number he threw out to make things difficult for Youyu. He didn't consider the possibility of the other party accepting that price at all. Spending a thousand for an R Card is already a loss, if anyone spent three thousand on an R Card, they'd be truly out of their mind...

"Alright." Youyu agreed without hesitation.

Makoto: "?"

Seriously? Did the kid catch a fever?

He can't possibly believe that "special collector's edition" story of his, right?

Of course, Youyu didn't believe it, however, a couple of thousand doesn't matter to him anyway.

Having just sold a system-issued N Card "Chainsaw Insect" for eighty million, spending even three hundred thousand on a "Gift from Heaven" seems fine to him.

This month Youyu had received a lot of care from Chinai at the store, after all, he'd buy the card regardless, might as well buy it there.

Makoto frowned, pondering the situation wasn't right.

Something's amiss!

So he shamelessly changed his tune: "Wait, I just remembered incorrectly, what I said before was a different card. 'Gift from Heaven', the three cards here should be five thousand each... No, eight thousand! Eight thousand each!"

He looked smugly at Youyu, his expression saying "no way you'd still want it, right?"

Youyu was speechless but still nodded: "Alright, eight thousand it is."

The old man: "?"

Eight thousand each, still wants them? Seriously? What's so special about this card?

Maybe... just sell it for eight thousand?

Yet selling three R Cards for twenty-four thousand would make the old man feel uneasy with a guilty conscience.

But if he backed down now, he'd be embarrassing himself...

Fortunately, he wouldn't need to struggle for long. His beloved granddaughter Chinai came to the rescue, resolving the dilemma.

"Here, the cards you wanted." Chinai handed three "Gift from Heaven" cards to Youyu, "I just went to find them for you in the warehouse."

Clearly, Chinai had been listening to their conversation and quietly went to retrieve the cards to help Youyu.

The old man was shocked: "Oh my dear granddaughter, those are special collector's cards..."

Chinai gave him a side-eye: "So you let your special collector's cards gather dust in a dirty corner?"

The old man: "..."

"Alright, thanks." Youyu took the three cards, smiled at her, "I'll send the money over later."

Chinai, watching him smile at her, was taken aback, her head popped up with "Affection +3" again.

Youyu guessed the reason her head only occasionally showed "+1", "+3" was probably because her affection level was so high it's about to overflow...

Chinai shook her head slightly: "No need. These cards aren't valuable, left there just collecting dust, grandpa surely already forgot about them. If you don't want them, they're useless..."

The old man stood beside, pounding his chest in frustration.

It's over, his own granddaughter hasn't even started dating, and her loyalty is already shifting!
