Chapter 36 - Chapter 35: Nightwalker World

One-Hit Kill!

I guess it's really no surprise that he's the Duel King. Dealing with small fries like Mr. T is just a one-sided crushing.

...Though, perhaps it's also due to the opponent's self-destructive tendencies.

With the show over, Youyu opened the task panel to check the status of this series of tasks, but suddenly stopped in his tracks.

The task description in the panel had updated, now marked as "Task Canceled."

The following explanation stated that because the evil consciousness of Darkness invading reality had suffered a heavy blow, it has now returned to a dormant state, awaiting the next opportunity to invade.

Youyu: "..."

So, it means that because the power held by Dark Yugi was too strong, that OTK just now... directly sent Darkness back to sleep?

...What about his reward?

Youyu suddenly felt a toothache.

This Darkness boss is really disappointing. Even if it's said that its strength is weak due to being in a dormant state... it still seems a bit too underwhelming.

Youyu also finally had a bit of an idea as to why, in the previous life, there was never any mention of Darkness's task in Linked World 1.0 version.

Thinking about it now, it's probably because when Darkness woke up, it barely had time to come to the human world to explore, and ended up face-to-face with Muto Yugi, who was just leveling up with a side account, and got instantly taken out without any chance to stir trouble...

Can you believe a player's task got hijacked by an NPC! (Someone completely forgets that this task was originally hijacked from the player in the first place)

Youyu initially hoped to farm this small boss several times to gain some extra experience and trade for Crystal Stones to draw card packs, but it seems that's no longer possible.

...But it doesn't matter.

It's just a small episode, and encountering the task related to Darkness was never part of his plan. If anything, gaining a monster spirit was already a bonus, so there's nothing to be dissatisfied about.

There are about half a month left until the public beta.

He still has many things to do in this half month.

...

An hour later, Youyu came to the other end of the city, to an empty and seemingly eerie alley.

It seems that every city always has places like this. Dark, silent, poorly lit or simply without a light source, with every little breeze from the alley feeling like someone is gently exhaling on the back of your neck.

These are often the corners forgotten by the city's inhabitants. Decent people wouldn't come to places like this all year round, and even those who aren't decent often know to keep a respectful distance from such areas.

Youyu walked through the gloomy alley, and inside it seemed to be a dead end. But near the end, there was a rusty iron door on the wall.

The only lighting was terrible, hiding the iron door perfectly in the shadows where the light couldn't reach. If you didn't pay attention, you wouldn't even notice it.

He stepped forward and gently knocked on the iron door three times with his knuckles, then took a step back and stood still.

A moment later, the door creaked open in front of him.

Behind the door stood a burly man. He wore a black leather jacket, had silver non-mainstream accessories around his neck, and black tattoos on his solid muscles. His face was full of rough features that naturally spelled "I'm not to be messed with."

This guy was a head and a half taller than Youyu. He looked down at Youyu, squinting his eyes with some displeasure.

"This is no place for a pretty boy like you to be," he said in a menacing tone. "Get lost, before I feel like beating you up."

Youyu raised his left arm and indicated the Duel Disc he was wearing to him.

The burly man raised an eyebrow: "A Duelist, huh? I don't know where you heard about this place, but we're not just any Duel Hall. If you're smart, you'll take off!"

As he spoke, his gaze toward Youyu suddenly changed.

It was something akin to murderous intent, with a pure darkness erupting from the depths of his pupils, forming an invisible aura that crashed toward Youyu like a tidal wave.

Yes, that's right, this man was also a Dark Duelist.

He was trying to scare off this clueless kid with his dark energy.

But unexpectedly, Youyu stood there calmly without being intimidated. He looked up directly at the burly man's gaze, and for a brief moment, his pupils seemed to light up with an eerie red glow.

In that split second, the burly man felt an overwhelming momentum release from the boy in front of him, as if his presence had suddenly grown, towering like a mountain, immediately repressing the dark energy he released, giving him a stomach-clenching sense of tension.

The burly man broke into a cold sweat, quickly realizing one thing.

The young man before him... was a master in hiding!

He tried to suppress the boy with his rudimentary dark energy, but now he realized how laughable it was.

Youyu stood with his arms crossed, the red glow in his eyes gradually fading away.

The burly man, panting like he had just finished a long run, wiped his sweaty brow with a sheepish laugh.

"I'm really sorry, I didn't see..."

Youyu smiled indifferently: "So, can I come in now?"

"Of course you can," the burly man said, stepping aside to let Youyu pass, "I'll take you to see Yako."

Youyu nodded, stepping inside. The burly man let him in first, then closed the rusty iron door behind them.

Behind the door was a long flight of stairs, which looked like they had been there for years, each step sounding like metal friction.

The narrow corridor had no lights, but not far ahead, torches hung neatly on the walls, casting an orange glow that danced with life, making their shadows look like ghostly figures twitching on the walls.

The burly man led the way upfront, while Youyu followed closely behind.

The spirit of the Dark Magician Girl floated out once more from Youyu's card deck, reminding him: "Master, there seems to be something strange here. There's quite a bit of dark energy gathered, though not strong, people here might have some special traits."

"Yes, I know." Youyu smiled slightly, "Thanks for earlier."

He, of course, had no supernatural power.

Eearlier, it was the spirit power of the Dark Magician Girl that allowed Youyu to counter the burly man's dark energy and lead the other to mistakenly believe he was a high-tier dark duelist.

With the spirit attached, the holder could wield power akin to a dark duelist.

This was also what made Youyu dare to come to this place.

Through the long corridor, they finally reached the end. The burly man stepped forward, pushing open the final door in front of them, allowing an almost blinding light to flood in.

A luxurious hall, bustling with people, a stark contrast to the previous atmosphere, was suddenly laid out before them.

The burly man turned his head, smiling at Youyu: "Welcome to the Nightwalker World."
