Chapter 26 - Chapter 23: Chickens

"Eevee, Vulpix, Pikachu?"

Keri pondered for a moment and then shook her head, saying, "Sorry, I haven't seen them around here. The forest near the carpenter shop is inhabited by Pokemon like Tarountula, Nymble, and Smoliv."

"Alright."

Upon hearing this, Naoki felt a bit disappointed, but he knew that some things can't be rushed. As long as he explores more in the future, he'll eventually encounter these Pokemon.

Time flew by, and before he knew it, three days had passed.

Today was the day the Chicken House was completed.

Naoki stood in front of the small house built from wood and stone, gazing at the scene inside.

The house wasn't large, and the ground inside was covered with a layer of yellowing pasture grass. The grass mixed with soil had been pressed into a special surface using a professional machine.

On the left side of the house was a row of feed containers, next to which was a water trough for the hens to drink from when they're thirsty.

To the left of the containers was the place for grass and feed, connected to an outside silo.

That's right, Keri had generously gifted a silo during the Chicken House construction.

The silo was tall and large, built with red bricks and stones, making it quite eye-catching in the ranch.

In the corner of the house, there was a pile of thick hay and a pitchfork, alongside a special circular grass nest, surrounded by wooden boards.

"That is..."

With the construction work completed, Conkeldurr and Machamp began moving tools and a rock crusher into the truck.

Keri stayed behind and started introducing the Chicken House to Naoki.

"That's the place for hatching eggs, also called an incubator. After placing the eggs in there, the hens will automatically go to hatch them, and after some time, chicks will be born.

If you don't want to buy every hen from the town, hatching them yourself is a good option."

Ah, understood! Naoki nodded his head.

Keri walked into the house and continued explaining, "Every morning, you need to take feed from the silo and place it in these wooden troughs, then fill the water troughs. The chicks will eat on their own.

However, be cautious that while you can put more feed, never put less. If the chicks are not full, they'll be unhappy, affecting the quality of their eggs.

Additionally, on sunny days, you can open the Chicken House door and let the chicks out to graze, but make sure to fence the area around, otherwise, the chicks might wander off and get lost."

Naoki nodded, remembering all this in his mind.

A wooden fence...

He could build it himself, but he didn't have much experience.

At that moment, Keri smiled and said, "I just made a new batch of wooden fences in the store. If you need, I can help fence the area around the Chicken House door."

Naoki: "…How much?"

Keri: "Not much, just 1500 League coins."

Hearing this, Naoki sighed with relief; the price of 1500 was indeed affordable. He hadn't done much fishing these past few days and had barely made any income, leaving him with around 16000 in savings after completing the Chicken House.

This money also needed to be used for buying chicks later in the afternoon, so if the price of the wooden fences was too high, he'd really have to think it over.

1500 was a price he could accept.

Decisively paying the money, Keri waved her hand, and two Machamps began using their muscular four arms to transport wooden fences from the truck.

Seeing this, Naoki couldn't help but say, "You had this prepared all along."

Keri chuckled softly, "Because I knew you'd definitely buy it!"

Naoki: "…"

Keri took a hammer from Conkeldurr's hand and cooperated with Machamp to fence the Chicken House with wooden fences.

When the last wooden fence was hammered into the ground, she pointed to the area opposite the Chicken House door and said:

"You can build a water mill there. With it, you can grind flour and make chicken feed on your own. Hmm, the price isn't expensive either, just 15,000 League coins, and we'll help prepare the required materials and facilities."

Naoki: "…"

He suddenly realized that Keri had everything more thoroughly planned than he did, leaving Naoki unsure of what to say for a moment.

Seeing his expression, Keri gave him a merchant's smile, saying, "If you're ready, come to the carpenter shop to find me! See you later!"

With that, she got into the truck, driven away by the Machamp who had learned driving skills, leaving the ranch with her.

Watching the truck disappear, Naoki turned to look at the newly constructed Chicken House in the ranch.

Regardless, the Chicken House was built, and it was time to start his breeding endeavors!

That afternoon, Naoki left Cyclizar at home and rode Koraidon to Porto Marinada Town—something he had promised Koraidon last time.

Koraidon was so happy it almost flew, sprinting joyfully along the narrow countryside paths.

Its speed far surpassed Cyclizar's, and it took just under ten minutes to bring Naoki to Porto Marinada Town.

Koraidon transformed into a sprinting stance, following beside Naoki.

On the streets, there were occasionally trainers passing by with their Pokemon, so people weren't too surprised by this situation, although they were curious, casting glances at Koraidon.

After all, it was a Pokemon they hadn't seen before.

Naoki pretended not to notice, quickly heading to the ranch in town.

Although it was a ranch, it didn't rely on breeding for livelihood but mainly on selling ordinary animals and farm Pokemon.

Due to the nature of this kind of selling being different from the black market sale of Pokemon, the League permitted this type of transaction openly.

The ranch was called Happy Ranch, with a sign depicting a wide-grinning Miltank.

Naoki entered the room with Koraidon, where the shopkeeper was a kindly old man with white hair, wearing reading glasses and looking down at a newspaper.

Upon hearing footsteps from the door, the old man looked up and was startled by Koraidon's massive figure.

However, upon seeing Naoki next to Koraidon, he relaxed, touched his chest, and gasped, "Gave me a fright, thought a wild Pokemon had burst into the shop! Are you here to buy ranch animals?"

Naoki was somewhat surprised, "How do you know?"

The old man wore a proud expression, "Well, Mayor Thomas told me recently that a new rancher had moved over, and that youngster should be you, right?"

Naoki nodded slightly, "That's me."

"Haha!" The old man laughed, "I guessed it right, didn't I?"

He folded the newspaper, put it aside, and stood up, leading the way:

"Since that's the case, come with me to the back of the ranch and see which animals and Pokemon you need!"
