Seraphina
My phone wouldn't stop ringing.
I groaned, rolled over, and pulled the blanket over my head. I wasn't ready for the morning. I wasn't ready for anything.
Yesterday had drained every bit of energy from my body, and all I wanted was one calm day. Just one.
I had planned to sleep in, order breakfast, maybe catch up on a show and pretend I was a nepo baby who didn't have to work tooth and nail for anything—-I mean, technically I was but you know.
The ringing continued.
I shoved my hand out from under the blanket, grabbed my phone, and answered without looking at the screen.
"What?" I mumbled, my voice cracking with fatigue.
"Sera?" my assistant, Nia, said, sounding frantic. "Where are you?"
"In bed. Where normal humans should be at…" I squinted at the time. "… 8:07 a.m. on their day off."
"Yeah, about that. You need to come to the office. Like now. Right now."
