I closed my door and leaned my back against it as soon as he left. My hands were still shaking. I didn't know if it was from anger, hurt, or the simple shock of everything collapsing at once.
It felt like the room itself was about to collapse on my head. I slid down slowly until I was sitting on the floor, pulling my knees close, and trying to steady myself.
The last twenty-four hours felt like a dream. There was no way everything that happened till this moment was real.
My uncle's betrayal—which surprisingly wasn't the biggest shock I'd gotten.

The files.
The lies. From both Kael and everyone who I thought had more integrity.
Kael again.
Everything.
"Perfect princess fantasy." I said absentmindedly.
I dropped my head on my knees and took a long breath to keep the tears from rising again. If I allowed myself to fully cry, I wasn't sure I'd stop.
After a while, I stood up, washed my face, and changed into something simpler — a plain gown.
