Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: Surrender and Resistance

Olga was also mixed up in the battle. Unlike Shaina, who took on a ship all by herself, Olga wasn't quite ready for that yet. She practiced with the ordinary pirates alongside the lower ranks of the Hundred Beasts Pirates.

Although she was over a hundred years old, to Asie, the time spent inside the belly of a Sea King Type where time was almost at a standstill made her still seem like a little girl who hadn't celebrated her tenth birthday.

This wasn't supposed to be her life, yet she had no choice but to accept it. Since the hijacking incident, Olga seemed to have grown a lot. She realized the importance of strength and began to yearn for it.

However, gaining strength came with a price, and her current experiences were part of that cost.

Asie felt a bit guilty about this. He blamed it on pure gold... but without pure gold, Olga couldn't have survived the South Sea Emperor Heat for over a hundred years.

At the end of the day, it was the fault of the person who leaked the pure gold information. He wasn't idle either, moving a box of cannonballs to a gunner's side.

Life had gotten to this point, and since he didn't have any direct combat ability, he could only think of ways to help.

"Use this."

Asie, despite being in the Hundred Beasts Pirates, was considered a cadre. And since he was a research talent, Kaidou didn't allow the pirates to threaten his safety.

Being a top-notch chemist and material scholar, Asie had reacquainted himself with his knowledge during this time and adapted to the changes in the world over the past hundred years. With Queen's help, he modified the existing gunpowder formula to make the cannonballs more powerful.

However, since it was still in the experimental stage, there weren't many of these cannonballs.

"Wow, Brother Asie, your cannonball is so powerful." The gunner exclaimed in genuine admiration as he observed the explosive range of the cannonball.

"Fire a few more rounds in that direction." After giving a few instructions pointing towards Olga's direction, Asie returned to the cabin. Staying outside would only add chaos.

Though outnumbered, they had overwhelming firepower, high-end combat strength, and aerial advantage. The rebelling pirates were quickly killed, and most of the remaining chose to surrender.

And the lower ranks of the Hundred Beasts Pirates played their role to the fullest, managing these captives.

Some pirates who wanted to escape to the meeting place to find their captain, Queen was just in pursuit of those people, and one of the escaping pirates just collided with Queen.

Faced with enemies from both front and rear, this pirate alliance, established for less than a few minutes, was on the verge of disbanding. Yet from the distant sky came the sound of gliding cannonballs.

A cannonball significantly larger than a conventional one came flying toward them.

For the strong in the Pirate World, dealing with cannonballs wasn't particularly difficult. King, in Human-Beast Form, flew across the sky.

The metallic wings shining with a metallic luster split the huge cannonball in two, grabbing the two halves with both hands and throwing them to destroy the cannonballs from behind.

The modified hands in Human-Beast Form were much more convenient compared to traditional bird-type Devil Fruit users, as their hands would transform into wings.

"That direction... isn't the pirate's base, is it?"

"Yes, Holy Beast Sir, that area is where the island's civilians live."

"Shaina, you and King go and make them stop resisting. Be gentle with the civilians, after all, this place will be our territory in the future."

Civilians are different from pirates. They are the island's original inhabitants. You can't just eliminate all the people from the islands.

Besides, we need population for future development, as population is also an economic foundation. We can't treat them like other pirates.

"Understood, we'll handle it. King! Let's go!"

One red and one gray figure flew in the direction from which the cannonball came, quickly disappearing into the sky.

"Alright, let's see how Kaidou is handling things." The remaining people, except those left to guard, followed Arceus to where Kaidou was.

....

"Gable! Who gave you permission to fire the gun!"

A conflict erupted in the area where the island's civilians lived. The guard captain fired a coastal defense gun towards the pirate base without the village chief's consent.

"Do you know how much effort it took to persuade those pirates to abandon their attack on us! Even if you don't care about this, do you not care about Little Gable and your mother's safety?"

A bearded man was pushed aside. The village chief stood in front of the cannon's muzzle, his tone filled with anger and helplessness.

"This is an opportunity. Those pirates seem to have a major conflict. If we can eliminate them, we'll be free! Our food will only last us another day. We can't save anymore. Look at what we've been eating these days!"

Gable pointed to the pot of food next to him. It seemed to be something like boiled potatoes, with more water than anything else. They had been surviving on such watery food.

"Gable, those are pirates."

"I know, but we have weapons. Why don't we stand up and resist them?! They're not strong like John. They're afraid of cannons. We have the power to resist."

The goal of civilians is simply to survive. Even if there is a chance to live, most would choose to submit, which was why this island belonged to John before.

But now these pirate conflicts are almost forcing them to die.

Then he pointed to a few people standing behind him, who agreed with his idea and participated in the shelling.

"They're still fighting. Now we still have the strength to resist. If they don't stop fighting in a few days, outside merchant ships won't come here. Are we going to starve to death?"

Taking advantage of their fierce internal battle, we would catch them by surprise. As long as we deal with them, the conflict will end."

"Gable, you are too young. Those are pirates. They're only compromising with us because they don't want to be ambushed. If you force them into a united front, and they decide to deal with us first, what will you do?"

"In that case, hand me over to appease their anger, but now is our chance to resist. We can't place our hopes on pirates.

If that really happens, Chief, please take care of Little Gable and my mother. Those willing to resist, pick up your guns and follow me!"

However, Gable noticed the looks in their eyes were a bit off, seemingly looking at the sky. When he turned around, he saw Shaina and King flying in the sky.

"You were the ones who fired the gun, weren't you? This island now belongs to the Hundred Beasts Pirates. We can let go of the gunfire incident, but for now, lay down your weapons and stop resisting."
