Chapter 39 - Falling

The soft and beautiful moonlight covered everything around; even so, Adriel could see well. It wasn't better than during the day, but he could see noticeably better than the average human at night.

He dismissed his katana and looked around. His gaze searching for each of his companions. After confirming they were asleep, he walked toward the exit.

Everything around him could be seen clearly. He looked up at the sky. Unlike before, he could tell how much the moon was moving. 'It's 1 a.m.' He said to himself as he watched the bright sphere hang above him.

Each step moved the weeds growing everywhere. Upon leaving the camp, he saw the mountain. 'The strange zombie is around there, but I don't want to go yet. How about...?' He turned to look west, from where he came.

He sighed slightly at his idea, but decided on a yes. He began to walk quickly, in a hurry to reach his destination.

Soon he came across the small werewolf cave, now uninhabited. Further ahead he found his previous base; well, he only recognized it by the lake, but it still felt like home.

Surprised by the lack of enemies, he leaned down by the lake and submerged his hands a bit, but then pulled them out.

He continued walking until he found the area where they had appeared in this world. He turned to look at the landscape he remembered. The seven moons hung together like last time; after looking at them for a while, his eyes opened wide.

'So we arrived in this world at approximately 2 a.m.' He sat on the branches of a nearby tree as he observed. 'I was supposed to come to hunt, but I'm just reliving memories.' He thought, then covered his smile.

That small smile remained as he stood up, then looked west again: more area, a more unexplored place.

Before walking again, he summoned his katana and kept it in his right hand.

The new was similar to the old; the landscape was just trees and glowing mushrooms. But soon he felt a weight lift from his body. It felt strange, but he knew he couldn't do anything about it.

Along the way, he felt more and more curious gazes; the edge of his katana kept away anyone who saw him, clearly terrified of what might happen if they tried to get clever.

While looking around for things, he felt some eyes much more intense than the others. When he turned, he could only see two red orbs floating... No, they weren't floating; that gaze, that color.

'A werewolf.' Thought the young man; then the beast's eyes dilated, and it attacked, its body lunging at the young man, who could only put his katana in front of him.

The large, heavy creature grabbed the hunter's katana with its claws; he began to move it from side to side, damaging its paws. After a sharp movement, he managed to flip the beast, putting himself on top of it, but a crack was heard.

The young man's blood ran cold when he stopped feeling his stable center of gravity. Looking down, he noticed a giant fissure; both were falling. A fall that, due to his skill, he knew was lethal.

In the air, they stopped struggling in astonishment.

...

Amara woke with a start. Her gaze wandered all over the camp. Faint rays of sunlight filtered through the walls. Dawn was beginning. The young girl began to search back and forth.

She quickly became desperate. She went to where Elena was and woke her up by grabbing and shaking her. The succubus was surprised by what the girl was doing. "What happened?" She asked calmly.

"Do you know where Adriel is?" The girl asked desperately. Her nails dug into the woman's skin as her eyes narrowed.

"N-no."

"Please. You're his slave, aren't you? Try."

Noticing the girl's desperation, the succubus decided not to mess around this time. She closed her eyes and concentrated on the contract bond, but... It felt faint, ethereal, small. "No... My bond feels small; it seems he moved quite far from the camp. I'm sure he'll come back."

Amara's expression filled with pain; then she slowly approached the woman until she hugged her. "Comfort me." The girl buried her face between Elena's breasts. The woman could feel the girl's tears flowing.

She stood still as a statue. Then Amara spoke again. "I'm sorry I wasn't honest. My class is 'Dream Diver.' I can see the past and future, but today I saw a recent one, one that happened a few hours ago. Adriel... Fell into a fissure to the west."

Elena couldn't even move well; her hands slowly wrapped around the girl, hugging her.

Amara slowly climbed up until she was sitting in the woman's lap, both embracing. "My weakness is that the more someone appears in my dreams, the more I'll feel for him. Along with my ability called 'My Idol,' I always saw Adriel, therefore you too."

Her face approached Elena's ear. "It's very early. And I need you to comfort me. We can leave, or we can stay here; after all, it's almost impossible for anyone to see us."

"You know what comforting means to me, don't you?" Said Elena, staring at Amara.

She nodded. "I know you better than you think."

'I'll do this to you now, but it's just because of my class. Later I'll help you properly.' Thought the succubus; before she could move, she felt Amara's lips meet hers; she decided to go first.

...

Humidity, blood, bile, and urine were all that entered the hunter's nostrils. The body beneath him was completely destroyed.

The werewolf's blood was slightly dry. Its flesh was almost totally destroyed, while its fur had a strange combination of Adriel's vomit, both of their urine, and its own blood.

Every corner of the place looked hard. Adriel looked up, where sunlight filtered through the fissure he had fallen through. The faint rays gave light to the beast's body. Then Adriel remembered the drops.

With difficulty, he summoned his katana and cut open the beast's chest, opening it wide, then shattered the bones to extract the beautiful blue orb. The image inside was a pair of leather gloves.

A window appeared when Adriel tried to use them. "Black leather gloves. Phase: Initial. Category: C. Description: Simple and useful black leather gloves."

After this, he was able to use the gloves. They were the perfect size for the young man, preventing them from slipping off. "Amazing." He whispered as he looked at his new item.

He nodded slightly before looking up again. The things that broke weren't earth, but an accumulation of roots that gave way under the pressure of the extreme struggle between the two.

He pointed his finger toward the highest part, then measured downward; quickly he could approximate how far he had fallen. 'One kilometer and fifty meters. Amazing that I'm still fine.' He thought as he looked around.

The young man's stomach growled loudly, and he didn't know what to do. He looked around a bit and had an idea. He grabbed the broken branches on the ground and then cut meat from the werewolf.

He summoned his lighter and set the sticks on fire, placed them under the fissure, and then suspended the piece of meat with his katana.

'I guess I'll have to stay like this until they rescue me,' he thought. Then he looked around as the meat roasted. Soon he noticed something. An immense number of holes were present in the place. Among them, many seemed to lead upward.

'Oh... Maybe I can get out of here.'
