ADANNA POV (Point of view)
The alley smelled of damp concrete and rain soaked trash, but I hardly noticed. My chest still heaved from the kiss we'd stolen in the shadows, from the closeness of Darian's body pressed against mine and yet, fear never left.
I could feel Eden's pulse beneath my fingers, a soft hum that vibrated through my palms whenever I brushed the portable scanner in my jacket. It was… alive, attentive, protective and it was responding only to me.
"Darian," I whispered, voice low. "It's… doing something. It's moving, I think."
His eyes narrowed as he scanned the surrounding streets, body tense, muscles coiled like a predator. "Not Kade yet," he said, though his jaw tightened. "But he's close. I can feel him moving, plotting."
I swallowed hard. "Then we stay quiet. We wait. We..."
