Chapter 52 Celebration Banquet

The next day, Unreal Entertainment released a hotfix update for the game. Players were quite excited, thinking there would be new content. Upon opening it, they found it was an update related to the disabled mode.

"Support, support."

"I didn't expect this update."

"I think it's great; I have disabled friends who play this game."

"This game is full of love."

A week later, Matthias Engel sent the custom peripherals from the factory to the player's address, asking him to try them out. The player sent a message back the same day he received them.

"Thank you so much, they work great, haha! Now I can control direction and cast skills with my feet, greatly freeing up my right hand."

"So, are you still planning to play PVP?" Matthias replied.

"With this new equipment, I definitely have to try it out in the arena. Oh, by the way, how much is it? I'll transfer the money to you."

"No need, my friend, I'm not short on cash."

"Haha, then thank you very much."

The next day, Matthias continued to set up his stall. Suddenly, he received an email. Opening it, he found it was gold coins sent by that player.

"These are some gold coins I earned. Please don't refuse; please accept my gratitude."

Matthias smiled slightly and clicked the accept button. Perhaps this was the joy of being a game developer—being able to help special players and feel mutual goodwill.

There were two screens in front of the computer: one for the stall, and one for browsing videos. While browsing, Matthias noticed that the movie's popularity hadn't faded. One video, in particular, caught his eye. Someone watching the movie noticed the screenwriter's name at the end of the film: Ping'an.

So, this video was speculating about who "Ping'an" was. No one seemed to know a screenwriter by that name. Matthias even saw an interesting comment: "It couldn't be Matthias Engel, the former CEO of GG Games, could it?"

There were only a few replies under this comment, and it was clear that no one took it seriously, thinking it was just a joke. Matthias also replied under the comment: "No, it's a slash-dog head."

A few hours later, his comment received a reply. "Arrest Grandmaster Matthias Engel! Grandmaster, when are you coming back? I used to play Mini Arena too, but unfortunately, it's no longer updated."

Matthias replied: "Times have changed. Play Pirates of the Caribbean."

"Haha, waiting for your return. I look forward to you creating a game that rivals Pirates of the Caribbean."

Seeing the reply, Matthias smiled knowingly. No need to look forward to it; you're playing it right now. Of course, these were just his thoughts, and he didn't reply.

Just then, Carl Schmidt called: "Matthias, all the events are done. Tonight, we're having a celebration banquet for the movie. Why don't you come over? Director Kevin, lead actor Richard, and Laura will all be there. Let's all meet up."

As Matthias hesitated, the door was pushed open. Laura poked her head in: "Hey, Matthias, my sister and I are going to the celebration banquet tonight. Will you come with us?"

Carl, on the other end of the phone, heard this and chuckled: "Then Matthias, why don't you all come together?"

"Mmm." Matthias hung up the phone and looked at Laura at the door: "Alright, we'll go together."

"Great! We have a driver!"

Walking out of the room, he realized that Maria Schmidt had had a bit to drink earlier and couldn't drive, so she needed Matthias to come along. Maria gave an awkward smile: "Drunk driving is illegal, so I'll trouble you."

"I thought you were inviting me for a big meal, but it turns out you needed a driver. Alright then."

They went to the underground garage, got into Maria's Cayenne, and headed towards the hotel. Sure enough, they encountered a police checkpoint on the way.

"It's a good thing Matthias drove for us today," Maria breathed a sigh of relief. If she had driven recklessly today, she would probably be in trouble.

The three arrived at the hotel. Carl had booked the hotel's banquet hall because quite a few people were attending. There were actors, staff from the crew, and some invited guests, totaling over a hundred people. Of course, Carl had a designated private room for the VIPs. At this moment, Carl and Director Kevin were busy organizing and speaking in the banquet hall. They would return to the private room to eat with the lead actors after stabilizing the crowd.

Laura and the others entered and went straight into the private room. Inside were the male lead, Jack Richard, the actor playing Will, and the actor playing Barbossa. Also present were two popular celebrities, Jonas and Felix. They were not part of the Pirates of the Caribbean cast; they came hoping to get acquainted with Carl and Director Kevin and build connections for future movies.

Laura and Maria walked in. "Hello, everyone," Laura greeted. Maria also greeted them. Because they often collaborated on events, the lead actors knew the sisters. The actors all smiled and nodded. Jonas and Felix stood up directly, walked over, and shook hands with the two women.

"Laura, your Elizabeth was superb. It's been a long time since I've seen such exquisite acting," Jonas immediately launched into a flurry of praise.

This made Laura slightly embarrassed: "Thank you for the compliment. I just acted according to the director's instructions."

"This is talent. I heard this is your first role. Your future is boundless." Jonas's flattery made everyone cringe. Felix, who wanted to interject, couldn't get a word in and reluctantly sat back down.

Just then, Matthias walked in. "And who is this?" Jonas looked at Matthias with a smile.

"He's my friend, Matthias Engel. I had a bit to drink and couldn't drive, so I asked Matthias to drive us over," Maria introduced.

Hearing the introduction, Jonas nodded indifferently, his expression slightly disdainful. Clearly, this was someone who judged people based on appearances. Upon hearing that Matthias was just there to drive, he ignored him. In his opinion, a capable person wouldn't drive for others, so he must be a very ordinary guy.

Matthias noticed the man's attitude but didn't say anything, sitting directly in a seat between Laura and Maria. As for the lead actors, Matthias had never been to the set, so none of them recognized him.

Carl and Director Kevin were still outside. No one dared to touch their chopsticks before the hosts' arrival. Matthias looked at the delicious food and was about to pick up his chopsticks when he was simultaneously stared at by Laura and Maria. He had no choice but to put them down.

This scene happened to be seen by Jonas. He was already unhappy when Matthias sat between the two beautiful women. "Since our friend wants to eat, then eat a little. It looks like he must be hungry," Jonas said.

Everyone looked towards Matthias. Clearly, Jonas was deliberately causing trouble, wanting to embarrass Matthias in front of everyone. Matthias didn't understand why this guy was so confrontational. Perhaps he was jealous of Matthias chatting with the women, or he simply looked down on a "driver."

"I've been busy all day, so I'm indeed hungry. I'll just eat a couple of bites to tide me over," Matthias said. He picked up his chopsticks, ignored the stares of the two women, and calmly began to eat.

Everyone felt it was incredible. Carl and Kevin hadn't arrived yet, and this guy dared to start. Laura and Maria secretly pinched Matthias's waist from below. Matthias endured the pain and ate a few more bites.

"Hmm, the taste is good. If we leave the food out longer, it'll get cold. It's perfect to eat now. Everyone should try some too."

No one dared to touch their food. The lead actors held back. Laura's face turned red. Maria whispered: "Matthias, ignore that guy. Don't touch your chopsticks anymore. They'll be here soon."

Jonas, on the other side, was shocked. He planned to report this to Carl when he arrived.

Just then, Carl and Director Kevin walked in. "Sorry to keep you all waiting," Carl said with a smile. Director Kevin also nodded, especially showing a smile when he saw Matthias.

Before they even sat down, Jonas enthusiastically approached them. "Herr Schmidt, Director Kevin, I've long admired your work!"

Carl said: "Director Kevin, this is Jonas. He's been in several movies." Kevin nodded dismissively.

However, at this moment, Jonas gave Matthias a sly look. "Herr Schmidt, today's meal tastes quite good. This friend named Matthias has already tasted it for us."

The private room instantly fell silent. Laura lowered her head, blushing. In everyone's eyes, the hosts would surely be displeased. Sure enough, Carl's smile froze, and Kevin's expression also looked unwell. However, they weren't looking at Matthias, but at Jonas.

"Herr Jonas, please sit down first," Carl said, his tone carrying a hint of coldness. Kevin didn't even glance at him. Carl was now a bit anxious and angry. It was hard enough to invite Matthias over, and now there was an ignorant guy causing trouble. Given his relationship with Matthias, it wouldn't matter if he ate everything on the table.

Everyone sensed something unusual. Only Jonas was still immersed in confusion. Immediately after, Carl raised his glass and approached Matthias.

"I forgot to introduce everyone. Matthias Engel—we are old friends."

Everyone was shocked. Laura was also surprised, not expecting them to know each other. Maria suddenly remembered that her company's previous contract was introduced through Matthias.

Carl picked up his glass and drank it all. Matthias raised his water glass and drank it all. He didn't want to drink and drive.

It wasn't until this moment that Jonas realized he had picked a fight with the wrong person. He panicked. His purpose for coming was to see if he had a chance to participate in the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel. He picked up his glass and walked to Director Kevin: "Director, your work is amazing!"

Kevin pointed to his throat and shook his head: "My throat isn't feeling well lately." Jonas stood stunned as the director actively toasted Matthias moments later.

As the banquet was about to end, Carl glanced at the two guests. "Director Kevin, I remember we still have a role for Lord Beckett that needs to be cast. Who do you think is more suitable between these two?"

Kevin looked at Jonas and Felix: "I haven't seen their acting. Matthias, who do you think is more suitable?"

Everyone's attention focused on Matthias. The lead actor, Jack Richard, found it incredible. Who exactly was this man, that the director would entrust him with a casting decision?

Matthias put down his chopsticks: "I think Felix, this young man, is quite steady."

Carl and Kevin exchanged a smile. "Then let him audition next," Kevin said.

Felix's face lit up with joy, while Jonas was filled with regret. His arrogance had caused him to miss a great opportunity.
