Chapter 78 - 78 Assisting X Strange Person

Midnight.

Torrential rain poured down, relentlessly eroding the night sky.

Taking advantage of the thick darkness, an airship slowly descended onto the top of a tall hotel.

This landing pad was a small private airship area exclusive to the highest-class hotels.

In the bustling metropolis of Yorkshin City, various airships shuttled back and forth.

After all, most of these airships were private property belonging to important figures, many registered under different companies or individuals.

This airship deliberately circled halfway around before quietly approaching from another direction.

Once it had landed steadily on the rooftop, three figures dressed in black raincoats quickly disembarked.

Following the rooftop passage, they soon arrived at an alley next to the hotel.

A luxurious mafia sedan had already been waiting there for a long time.

After picking up the three, the sedan drove around the city for a while before finally arriving at a secret mafia stronghold.

Upon entering the stronghold, the three took off their raincoats; they were Kevin, Pairo, and Rosana.

Light stood at the entrance with two bodyguards, clearly having waited for a long time.

Kevin walked forward and briefly shook hands with him.

"Thank you for your help. Honestly, I didn't expect you to agree to my request so readily."

While still on the airship, Kevin had been thinking about how to slip away from Yorkshin City without anyone noticing or leaving any trace.

The method he came up with was "hitchhiking."

Kevin had stayed in this city for some time before and had a general understanding of it.

In this city, officials, businessmen, and the mafia colluded with each other, their relationships complex. It could almost be said that the city was controlled by the [Mafia].

The world's largest annual auction was organized and planned by the top tier of the mafia, the [Ten Old Heads].

Taking advantage of this opportunity, mafia groups controlling various regions around the world would gather here to discuss matters for the coming year and resolve conflicts and misunderstandings among themselves.

It was no exaggeration to say that this was a complete mafia city.

Because of the hundred million Light had given him before, Kevin had a deep impression of him and had learned a little about him.

Compared to the large mafia families, Light's family could only be considered small fry.

Even so, Light controlled a remote city and could be called an underground emperor there.

Kevin learned that Light's family would soon complete their affairs and leave Yorkshin City, so Light would most likely take this opportunity to return to his original city.

This became an excellent opportunity.

So while on the airship, Kevin called Light using the previous number and contacted him.

He originally thought he would have to expend a lot of effort, come up with strategies, and pay some price to gain the other party's assistance.

But he didn't expect Light to agree immediately.

Even after hearing that the pursuers behind Kevin were extremely dangerous, Light still readily agreed without hesitation.

This truly exceeded Kevin's expectations.

It also made him more vigilant.

Light led the three into the stronghold, arriving at a quiet room.

He looked at them. Just as he had guessed before, the man called "Eagle" was indeed Kevin.

His gaze fell on the two figures behind Kevin, and he roughly made a judgment.

That black-haired child should be the one called "Crow," right? And that blonde woman was probably the "Swallow."

Their temperaments made it easy to distinguish.

Although Light's observation seemed normal and relatively concealed, Kevin—already highly alert—still noticed something unusual.

When Light looked at Pairo and Rosana, there was something strange in his eyes.

It wasn't the look one gives to strangers.

Why was that?

Recalling his previous interactions with Light, Kevin felt that this man had been acting strangely from the beginning, though he couldn't pinpoint exactly what was wrong.

At first, Light generously giving him a hundred million could barely be explained.

Now, facing a known huge risk, he still accepted calmly.

Adding to that the strange look just now, Kevin silently raised his guard and began observing more carefully.

"Let's introduce ourselves first. I'm Kevin, Kevin Carpenberg. This is Pairo, and this is Rosana."

Light nodded.

"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Light, the Boss of the Nostra Family."

"You're seeking my help and are currently on the run. I presume you already have a plan for your next steps. For friends, the Nostra Family will definitely provide full assistance."

Hearing this, Kevin once again sensed something off in Light's attitude.

This was too illogical.

This didn't seem like how the mafia would act.

Thinking back carefully, aside from showing his strength, Kevin had even clashed with them before.

Yet now, the other party was showing complete goodwill, even a subtle trust that was difficult to explain.

Why?

Kevin didn't ask directly. Instead, he nodded.

"Then I express my sincere gratitude once again. Those pursuing us are an extremely malicious group, and their information-tracking ability is very strong."

"Therefore, for now, we plan to disguise ourselves as members of your family's mafia and leave Yorkshin City with you."

"If possible, we also hope to stay in your city for a period of time to avoid the heat."

After hearing this, Light nodded readily.

"No problem. I'll arrange it immediately. Our private jet back has already been booked and won't leave any suspicious traces."

"It just so happens that the family has recruited a batch of new members recently. Blending the three of you in won't be a problem."

He then pointed outside.

"Everyone in this stronghold is a trusted member of the family."

Hearing the thorough arrangements, Kevin nodded in thanks again.

After a few brief pleasantries, Kevin and the others prepared to rest.

"You should rest well here first. I've already started looking for information on that young man named Kurapika."

"It shouldn't take long to get results, so you don't need to worry for now."

"Moreover, the massacre in the forest hasn't been exposed yet, so he shouldn't know about it. Naturally, he won't act rashly, as he only just left recently."

Hearing this, Pairo and Rosana nodded.

"Thank you. We are truly grateful for your help," Rosana said again. She had already lost count of how many times she had thanked him.

Kevin nodded but said nothing more.

For now, it was far too early to relax.

After returning to the room, Kevin didn't fall asleep immediately.

He quietly climbed out the window and carefully checked the surroundings of the entire building.

He activated "Ren" and performed a simple scan.

He did not detect any abnormal behavior.

There weren't many people in the building, and everyone was armed with firearms.

From the outside, it looked like an ordinary low-rise residential building.

"Be sure to treat them well. Give them enough respect, just as you would treat me. Satisfy their needs as much as possible."

Kevin overheard Light giving instructions to his subordinates.

He listened quietly for a while. After confirming everything, he returned to his room through the window.

Although he hadn't detected any obvious danger, Light's attitude was still too strange.

So accommodating that it was difficult to understand.

Why?

It wasn't that Kevin didn't believe good people existed.

But the problem was—Light was mafia.

And not just any mafia, but a mafia Boss.

He simply couldn't reconcile that with someone willing to help strangers like this.

Moreover, the arrangements were too thorough, as if Light already knew their situation.

Yet Kevin had only provided limited information over the phone.

It seemed he couldn't let his guard down and had to remain vigilant at all times.

At least for now, Light didn't appear to have any ill intentions.
