Chapter 44 - 44 – A Gift X Unknown Points

The two of them had a pleasant conversation outside the cave.

It was mainly Ging's desire to share that was soaring; he talked incessantly about various things he had seen and heard.

Kevin chimed in with a few words from time to time. Although his responses were simple, he was actually listening with full concentration and great interest.

Previously, Kevin had gained a brief understanding of Ging as a person from Biscuit.

Biscuit had said at the time, "In the Old Man's words, he is one of the world's top five Nen Users."

The "Old Man" mentioned here was the current Chairman of the Hunter Association—Netero. In Biscuit's eyes, the Chairman possessed terrifyingly immense strength. And Ging was ranked among the top five Nen Users in the world.

Upon hearing this title back then, Kevin couldn't help but scratch his head.

For a moment, he felt conflicted about the circumstances of his transmigration; it was truly difficult to judge whether it was a stroke of luck or misfortune.

The lucky part was that the entire transmigration process was noticed by Ging; however, the unlucky part was exactly the same thing.

At this moment, the content Ging was sharing sounded incredibly interesting to Kevin.

From the unique systems of certain ancient kingdoms to various festival rituals, to excavated magical artifacts, and those grand sacrificial scenes, these were things Kevin was already quite interested in back in his original world. After coming to this world where Nen Ability exists, they became even more fascinating.

After all, this was a world with supernatural powers; anything with a supernatural nature held a great attraction for Kevin.

Because Kevin could occasionally offer some rather professional insights, Ging began to see him in a new light, and his desire to share grew even stronger.

Is this what a Hunter is?

Looking at Ging's current state, Kevin seemed to have a deeper understanding of the profession of "Hunter."

Just then, the whimpering sound of wolves howling together came from inside the cave.

"Let's go in," Ging suddenly suggested.

The two walked into the cave.

As expected, the male wolf in the cave had already stopped breathing; only the horn on its head still emitted a faint, dim glow.

With a "clack," the entire sharp horn slid and fell smoothly from the top of its head.

Immediately afterward, the remaining skeletal remains melted at a speed almost visible to the naked eye, turning into a fluid-like substance that slowly merged into the ground, disappearing without a trace.

"This..."

"This kind of scene is very rare to see. I dare say that no more than ten people in this world have witnessed the natural death of a Double-Headed Wolf," Ging explained from the side.

The wolf cubs and the mother wolf surrounded the place where the remains had melted, whimpering.

After a long while, the mother wolf finally stopped. She used the head without a horn to pick up the fallen single horn and walked over slowly.

However, to Kevin's surprise, the mother wolf did not walk to Ging's feet, but instead came to Kevin.

"Tsk."

Seeing this scene, Ging clicked his tongue in annoyance, his face full of regret.

The mother wolf placed the horn at Kevin's feet and whimpered twice.

"This is... for me?" Kevin could hardly believe it.

The mother wolf nodded in a human-like manner, then turned back to take care of the wolf cubs.

"I knew I shouldn't have brought you along." Ging scratched his spiky hair, his look of regret not seeming faked.

"Why give it to me?" Kevin asked as he picked up the single horn.

The moment he touched it, that feeling of longing surged into his heart once again.

Compared to the crystal bone he had seen before, the intensity of this longing was weaker, but it was still slightly higher than that of other ordinary materials.

This single horn should be considered a C-rank material, at the top level of C-rank.

More importantly, there was a lot of it.

"You can feel a longing for this thing too?" Ging asked with a frown.

Kevin nodded.

Ging didn't ask further, but instead explained the situation to Kevin: "This thing is for you, and you must be curious why. As I told you before about the history of the Double-Headed Wolves, they admire those who are righteous and kind. Although I'm not a bad person, compared to you, I really can't be called a good person."

As he spoke, Ging began sharing more trivia: "In ancient times, monarchs who were gifted a horn by a Double-Headed Wolf would be honored as Merciful Sovereigns."

Oh, so this counts as receiving a "good person card."

"However, it has only seen you twice, yet it gave the post-mortem horn to you instead of me. This means it sensed even more noble qualities in you."

As he spoke, Ging looked at Kevin and patted his shoulder.

"If this were ancient times, you would have already been labeled with the title of 'Merciful.'"

The two of them walked out of the cave while talking.

After bidding farewell to the wolf pack, they returned to the camp.

By now, the sky had completely darkened, and the moon and stars were shimmering in the night sky.

Beside the campfire, accompanied by the crackling sound of the firewood, the two of them each held a can of beer and chatted casually as they drank.

Ging looked at Kevin and suddenly asked, "What do you think about that longing you have for materials?"

"Longing? Oh, I think it might be an inherent characteristic of a Specialization Nen Ability, or perhaps an effect produced by the subconscious when constructing the Nen Ability," Kevin stated his thoughts.

After all, the original owner was extremely obsessed with potions. Under the influence of the subconscious, it made sense for the constructed Nen Ability to generate a longing for materials, not wanting to miss any good ones.

Ging didn't refute him but continued to ask, "Is it convenient for me to see your original Nen Ability?"

Kevin felt there was nothing to hide; in any case, his Nen Ability wasn't very useful in combat.

He conjured "A Moment of Dream."

Ging took just one look, then frowned and asked, "This is a pharmacy station, right? Do the items produced have side effects?"

Impressive.

Kevin was once again amazed by the sharp insight of these experts.

He nodded. "That's right. As you said, the potions produced will have certain side effects if taken by anyone other than myself."

"This thing has the nature of Post-mortem Nen, but not entirely," Ging said, observing it to himself.

"Do you have any finished potions you've developed? The kind with less intense effects."

Kevin nodded and casually took a bottle of Bone Setting Agent from his waist pouch and handed it over.

Ging took one look and drank it directly.

"The taste is okay. Hmm... for treating fractures? The side effect is that while the medicine is in effect, the control of Aura in the treated area becomes erratic."

Ging quickly analyzed the effects and side effects of the potion.

After the effects had completely worn off, he sat back down and began to state his view: "The side effects produced by the potions you make will, if nothing goes wrong, all affect the use of Aura. This is essentially because the products carry the 'Malice' unique to Post-mortem Nen."

As he spoke, he pointed at Kevin and recalled, "When you first possessed this body, I didn't think the Kevin of that time had the ability to turn his Nen Ability into Post-mortem Nen."

"That kind of obsession is too deep. Only someone who grew up in a special environment with an extremely paranoid will could possibly achieve it. Therefore, the formation of this Post-mortem Nen is closely related to the process of you possessing this corpse back then."

Ging was clearer about the entire process of Kevin's transmigration and possession than Kevin himself; after all, Ging had been observing and studying from the side at the time.

"And that inexplicable longing in your body. Let me put it this way: in the vast majority of Nen Abilities, it's rare for the Nen Ability to conversely affect the user's own will."

"Although part of it can be explained by Post-mortem Nen, the real situation is far more complex than that."
