DAMIEN POV
The world tilted.
Six months. Six months of sitting beside her bed. Waiting. Praying. Hoping.
And she was finally awake.
But she didn't know me.
Didn't remember me.
The doctors rushed in. Dr. Patel. Two nurses. They swarmed around Elena's bed, checking vitals, asking questions.
"Elena, can you tell me your full name?"
She stared at the doctor. Confused. "I... I don't know."
"Do you know where you are?"
"A hospital?"
"That's right. Good. Do you know why you're here?"
Elena's eyes moved around the room. Taking in the machines. The IV in her arm. The bandages.
"I was hurt?"
"Yes. You were in an accident. You've been in a coma for six months."
"Six months?" Elena's voice was small. Scared.
"Yes. But you're awake now. That's very good." Dr. Patel pulled out a penlight. "I'm going to do some tests, okay? Just follow the light with your eyes."
I stood back. Against the wall. Watching.
