Chapter 30 - (chapter thirty) I tried my best!!

Yuto lay flat on his back, watching the fast-approaching isama. Yuto gripped his tanto in his hand. Yuto wondered if the fight would end here, as he was forced to the ground within seconds. It reminded him of his first mission when Satoru closed the gap in speed before he could blink, and he had to be saved by Genma. The genin infront of him was just simply stronger than him. If he wanted any chance of winning, he needed to slow down the approaching Isamu and counter hard.

Yuto's calm face gave nothing away. he wanted to save this for his second match, but he was left with no choice.

Right as Isamu entered with a kunai, attempting to end the fight, Yuto spat a series of spit balls, slamming into Isamu's torso and sending him stumbling back. Yuto frowned at the lack of damage, as he had yet to develop the technique any further. He didn't fret using the newfound opportunity and shot up from the ground, his tanto in hand. He instantly attempted to grab hold of Isamu, knowing Isamu was too fast for him. He knew if he could hold him still, he could deliver some meaningful damage. He dashed towards the disoriented Isamu and instantly shifted into a downward slice, but he noticed Isamu's attempt to counter and spun around into a horizontal slice. Isamu, even while disoriented from Yuto's previous attack, was able to bring his kunai to the side to Perrie, but didn't expect Yuto to switch the grip on his tanto and shift into an uppercut motion with his blade. Isamu just barely leaned out of the attack, leaning backward, seeing the blade impel the air his head once was. Yuto didn't relent his attack, instantly spitting out more spitballs, impaling and disorienting Isamu more, before he planted a weak kick into Isamu's stomach, sending him flying.

Yuto, however, wasn't satisfied. He failed to close the distance and grab hold of Isamu, having to resort to using his spitball ninjutsu after his blade attacks failed. It made him realize that not only was his kinjutsu not good enough, but he was simply too slow. He turned his focus on the fight, dusting off his fabrics and placing his blade infront of him. This fight could only be won from long range. He knew he wouldn't have the element of surprise anymore, as he had already revealed his technique. And now that he had wasted his opportunity, only to land a weak kick, his chances of winning had just dimmed that much.

He looked as calm as ever, but seeing the angry face of the now recovering Isamu, honestly made him a bit nervous. He knew his earlier attack was only possible because he had the element of surprise, and no one expected a genin to use sealess ninjutsu after getting pummeled into the ground. Now that all of his tools were out in the open, he was no longer as confident, despite his calm demeanor.

Isamu stood up fuming, sending a glare at Yuto. "I'm going to break you in half!" Isamu spat, gripping his kunai.

Yuto stayed silent; he didn't want to anger the genin any more than necessary. Luckily for him, he still had a few tricks up his sleeve.

With anko. "Yeah! Kick his ass!" Anko said, pumping a fist in the air.

Kurenai just chuckled at Anko's antics.

Back with Yuto. Yuto was instantly put on the defensive, trying his best to block and evade the strikes from Isamu's kunai. Yuto knew he wouldn't be able to avoid them for long; he needed to attack, but the only way he knew how to attack was to trade damage. He gritted his teeth and shot for Isamu's legs.

Yuto's brain rattled from a knee straight to the face. He dropped to the ground, face-planting into the dirt. His eyes watered, and drool fell out of his nose; his face contorted into pain.

When he decided to trade damage, he had completely forgotten about the amount of damage his opponent could do. His pale skin was submerged in dirt. He fought through the pain and rolled out of the kick aimed for his down body. He spat a high-powered glob of blood at Isamu's overextended body. The attack did no more damage than his previous attacks. Still, he knew landing his spitball ninjutsu in close range was the perfect opportunity to grab hold of the overextended Isamu. Isamu failed to prevent Yuto from locking his arms around his waist, his body weight still on one leg.

Yuto placed his leg behind Asumu's and plummed them both into the dirt.

Isamu attempted to get to his feet, but left an opening by turning his back to Yuto. Yuto wasted no time jumping on Isamu's back. He clenched his legs around Isamu's waist while holding onto his green jacket, and started driving his elbow into the back of Isamu's head with his free hand.

Suddenly, Yuto felt a sharp pain in his side, and blood began to pour out. His grip loosened, but he fought through the pain of Isamu's kunai in his side, continuing to drive now weak elbows into the back of Isamu's head. Isamu started to stagger around from left to right, from the elbows impacting his head, but he quickly pulled the kunai from Yuto's side and started to stab at Yuto's wound continuously.

Yuto concealed his moans of pain with chakra, and at that point, he had had enough. He coated his teeth in chakra and dug them into Isamu's neck. Blood squirted from Isamu's neck as his continuous stabbing stopped. Isamu face planted into the ground, holding his bleeding neck.

Yuto released his grip on Isamu's back, indifferent to Isamu's pain, clutching his ablated side. Blood poured from the deep cut on his face from Isamu's knee.

"Medic's!" Taro said.

Yuto forced back his need to cry out in pain, blinking the tears out of his eyes, and forcing chakra to the bleeding wound, acting as a blockage to the blood. His face was calm, but his eyes were teary, and he stumbled on his feet.

He needed to distract himself from the pain because the adrenaline wasn't doing enough. He refused to show weakness in front of all of the spectators and participants. The only way to distract yourself from pain was pleasure and amusement, and the first one was not an option. He thought of the funniest joke he'd ever been told from his previous world, as he couldnt say he came across any comedians here.

Yuto suddenly burst into boisterous laughter, showing his blood-stained teeth. He received concerned looks from Taro and the rest of the audience.

"That kid's crazy!" said a spectator.

"Yeah, he definitely has a few screws loose," said another one.

Yuto, noticing the weird looks he was receiving, placed his hand to his mouth, trying to stop the laughter.

He calmed down and was approached by a few medics.

"Come on, we will take you to get healed!" said one of the medics, grabbing Yuto's arm and pulling him over to a stretcher.

Yuto silently sighed in relief; his laughter had only increased his pain, making it even harder to conceal it. He allowed himself to be carried away on the stretcher.

"What was I thinking? Instead of concealing my pain, I made myself look like a crazy person," Yuto thought to himself, holding back a grunt.

He then heard the medics speaking quietly with each other as they carried him away with haste.

"That kid's ruthless. To bite into his opponent's neck and then to laugh like that!" one of the medics whispered.

"Yeah, that kid's crazy," the other one responded.

The medics clearly seemed to think they were being discreet as they became jumpy when Yuto retorted.

"I'm not crazy, you know," Yuto grunted out through his pain.

The medics were a little surprised their conversation was heard, but put on unconvinced faces.

Yuto frowned at this, still clutching his side. "I remembered a funny joke," he said, trying his best to appear convincing through his pain-taken tone.

One of the medics rolled their eyes. "Don't talk, it will only make your injuries worse," she said.

Yuto didn't respond as he was carried into the facility's medical sector.

"Miss, can I ask you something?" Yuto asked.

"What is it, kid?" she said, moving him into a treatment room.

"You're a certified medic, correct?" Yuto asked.

"Obviously? Why?" she said, clearly annoyed by the question.

"I want to learn! I can pay," Yuto said, almost pleadingly, coughing up some blood.

"Stop talking!" she chastised.

Yuto listened, giving a light smile. He lifted the hand not placed on his side, giving a thumbs up, then changed it to a questioning gesture, then changed it to a thumbs down.

The medic understood the hand gestures and placed a finger to her chin before she responded.

"I'll consider it," she said, unsure.

Yuto nodded.

The medic removed Yuto's clothes and performed a few hand seals before her hands began to glow. Yuto watched in awe as it was his first time seeing the technique. He remembered the hand seals and observed how the chakra interacted with the wound. While he couldnt see the cells being duplicated, he suspected that was what was occurring.

After a few minutes of healing, his many wounds were fully closed, but not fully healed. He recounted the events of his previous fight and immediately started formulating a plan for his next one. He would recover in the infirmary for a few hours, as he was aware his fight would be the last one. He saw the medic getting ready to leave, and he quickly stopped her exit.

"Wait! When can I expect an answer?" Yuto asked.

She turned around and sighed. "Look, kid, it's unlikely that it will happen. Unlike your instructor, I don't dwell in the facility. I won't take time away from my daughter to help out one genin," she said.

Yuto quickly objected. "I just need a few tips here and there. Maybe I can watch your work from time to time," Yuto said, pleadingly. He didn't care about putting up a front of arrogance. As he stood, he needed some extra help, since he wouldn't have access to any other teachers or medical material.

"If I do decide to help you, you'd better have some skills," she said.

"The medical trainee program, did you get accepted?" she asked, knowing that anyone who aspired to be a medic would have applied.

"Yes, I was accepted the day after I applied," Yuto said.

"How much material did you complete?" she asked.

"I only attended one lesson, but I've already completed three material scrolls," Yuto said, a little proud.

"Hum, not bad, and you said you'll pay?" she asked.

"Yes, name a price," Yuto said, a little excited at the prospect of having a medical teacher.

"Alright, if you really want my help, it will cost," she said.

Yuto shook his head like a bobble head, clearly willing to pay whatever she asked for.

She smiled a little at Yuto's excitement before speaking. "I want..."

Later on...

Yuto walked back into the clearing of tree's seeing fewer genin than before. He suspected some genin were injured as well and were recovering in the infirmary.

Yuto received a few stares and, not to his surprise, murmurs and whispering.

He sighed, reaching into his pouch and unsealing a plastic bottle of lemonade in a poof of smoke.

He slipped a straw into the bottle, drinking his heart away, letting out a refreshing sigh. He was just in time for a fight between Hikari and another genin. he frowned, seeing his best bud receiving a beating from the other genin. he sighed, sitting down crisscrossed.

After Hikari's match was over, he plopped down on the ground next to Yuto, as he had received no injuries from the fight.

"Aww man, I almost had him," Hikari said.

Yuto forced back a laugh as Hikari indeed did not almost have him.

"You'll win next time," Yuto said, attempting to offer some encouragement. Of course, he didn't believe this at all, but he wasn't really in a position to ridicule Hikari, as his performance was far from perfect.

"Yeah, you're right, I'll win next time!" Hikari said. He noticed Yuto's beverage and spoke.

"You wouldn't happen to have another one?" he said, a little sheepish.

Yuto sighed and handed his beverage to Hikari, taking the straw out.

"Aww, thanks, man, you're the best!" Hikari said, before downing the contents in one go.

Yuto gave a light smile before looking into the tree for Anko and the red-eyed beauty.

He locked eyes with Anko's furious face, as she was clearly not happy with Yuto putting himself in such excessive danger.

He gave her an apologetic look.

She simply crossed her arms, looking away chidishly, forcing a smile out of Yuto.

Then Yuto's ears betrayed him, literally. He heard his name being called and heard the name Yamanaka.

His heart dropped to his ass. he shared none of the excitement, Touji was displaying, walking into the clearing.

Yuto walked into the clearing as well. he made sure to clutch the opposite side of his hurt side, trying to mislead Touji. It seemed to work as Touji gained a filthy grin after seeing Yuto's apparent injury.

Yuto let go of his side and unsheathed his tanto. He was a little overwhelmed by the blood thirsty eyes of Touji. He didn't care to act indifferent. He was afraid, even if he didn't intend to display it for the whole audience.

The crowd was loud and disruptive, cheering and chattering. Taro seemed to be concerned after seeing Yuto clutching his side, but he was a chunin and could tell Yuto was faking his injury. Taro's face shifted from concern to a smile at Yuto's strategic mind. He was impressed by Yuto's quick thinking in his previous battle, as he had noticed Yuto changing the tide of battle by holding onto the faster and stronger opponent, despite paying a heavy cost for it. He was impressed by his level-headedness and his resiliency even after taking Isamu's heavy blows. Taro wasn't sure if Yuto could win this match, but he was rooting for him just like before.

Hikari, on the other hand, was nervous but was confident in Yuto's abilities. Not only was he confident after seeing Yuto's first match, but he remembered Yuto telling him he survived a run-in with Touji before. he cheered on Yuto, sure of Yuto's victory.

Yuto, in the clearing, looked at Touji across from him. he kept his expression calm and refrained from starting any trash talk.

He didn't have to, as Touji was quick to run his mouth.

"Aww, little Yuto comes out to play," Touji taunted.

Yuto rolled his eyes. "How original," he thought, having no intention of speaking to a delinquent like Touji.

"You know, after our run-in in the forest, I would think you would piss yourself if we faced," he said.

"I wonder, why are you pretending to be calm, always prudish around with your indifferent attitude? Do you think you can face me?!" he said, glaring daggers and grinning.

"You look calm on the outside, but I know you're afraid. I can feel the fear oozing off of you."

"Don't worry, I'll give you a reason to fear," Touji said with a sickening grin, holding his arms out invitingly.

Yuto frowned. It was unsettling to have a Yamanaka tell you exactly what's going through your mind. His grip tightened on his blade, the encroaching wind blowing his bangs.

Taro stepped forward, noticing that both participants were ready. He brought his hand down in a chopping motion, starting the match.

"Begin!" he said.

Yuto instantly tossed his blade into the air, flinging shuriken from his pouch with both hands. He snatched his blade out of the air, dashing behind the kunai, but his face fell into shock when he saw Touji dance through a few hand signs.

Touji's grin grew wider at Yuto's surprise, as he finished the handseals.

"Wind style, gale palm!" Touji said before he sprang one of his hands forward, a kunai in the other one. A gust of wind was shot from his hand, changing the direction of the shuriken and increasing their speed.

Yuto was even more surprised to see Touji use high-level wind style. It was a C-rank jutsu that could be used to increase the speed of projectiles, but for Touji to change the direction and double the speed, showed his skill with the technique. Yuto did not fret as he quickly began shooting his spitballs at the incoming shuriken, impacting them and changing their trajectory, before he slid on the ground to avoid the rest.

He attempted to slide tackle Touji, but Touji jumped into the air and attempted a kick. Yuto is familiar with this move and wouldn't make the same mistake of blocking it. He saw the incoming kick and coated his teeth in chakra, aiming to bite into Touji's foot. Touji noticed this and directed his foot to the ground, allowing Yuto to slide under his form in the air.

Yuto quickly rolled onto his feet and spun around to continue his attack. he realized that when he turned around in his previous match, he was only focused on attacking and paid for it, not having his defense up. Yuto turned his blade up, prepared for any attacks. He was right as he clashed with Touji's kunai.

Yuto was forced back from Touji's kunai. He instantly spat his spitballs at Touji, seeing his predicament.

Touji didn't even flinch, allowing the spitballs to hit him, as he noticed the spitballs wouldn't do much damage.

Touji kicked Yuto in the knee, forcing Yuto to take a knee.

Yuto, now sporting his blade with no base, was easily disarmed from a knee to his arm. Touji followed up with a kick to Yuto's head, sending him to the ground. Yuto's back slammed against the ground. He spat his spitballs at Touji from his position on the ground.

Touji scoffed and proceeded to slap Yuto's attacks with his bare hand, making Yuto's calm face shift to utter disbelief.

"Are my attacks really this weak?" Yuto thought.

He didn't get to ponder further, as Touji pounced onto his form on the ground, bringing his kunai down.

Yuto waited until the last second, coating his teeth in chakra again, and caught the kunai between his teeth. He grabbed Touji's arm and planted a kick into Touji's face with his free leg, forcing Touji off of him.

Yuto attempted to increase the distance, getting off the ground and trying to hop away, but he was grabbed by his long ponytail and swung over Touji's shoulder.

Touji slammed Yuto to the ground, forcing the air out of Yuto's lungs. He stepped on Yuto's head, still holding onto Yuto's hair, his face twisted into a grin.

"Let me teach you a lesson, princess," Touji said tauntingly.

He looked at the kunai in his hand, his grin becoming even more menacing.

Yuto noticed this, looking up with teary eyes. he loved his hair and took really good care of it. His face was horrified, his calm expression falling as he felt the weight of his hair leave his head.

"fucker!" Yuto spat out, speaking for the first time, hatred in his eyes.

"Aww, I'm sorry, my hand slipped," Touji said innocently, holding Yuto's now-cut hair.

"Don't look at me like that, you stupid kid! I'm trying to teach you a lesson!" Touji said, his grin changing to anger.

He cocked his leg back and slammed into Yuto's form on the ground, sending him rolling a few feet. Touji didn't stop there, repeatedly slamming his foot into Yuto's down form.

With anko. "that fucking wretch, I'll kill him!" Anko yelled, her face contorted into anger.

Kurenai was forced to hold her back from interfering in the match.

"Anko, you know the rules. No interfering with the matches," Kurenai said.

"I don't care! He has no right to treat Yuto like that!" Anko retorted, trying to get out of Kurenai's grip.

The other chunin on the ground and trees noticed Anko's angry form on the branch with kurenai.

"You'll only make things worse," Kurenai said calmly.

Meanwhile, Touji sat on top of Yuto, coming down with punches.

Yuto tried to cover his face, but his skinny arms were pried out of the way.

His face looked fine, but blood dripped from his nose and a cut above his eyebrow.

Taro, noticing the match was basically over, stopped the fight, as there was no purpose in letting it play out.

"That's enough, Yamanaka!" Taro said, a little bit of contempt in his tone.

Taro was completely disgusted by Touji's display. He was beating on a freshly graduated genin, a ten-year-old no less, and instead of putting a kunai to Yuto's neck and ending the match. He instead threw his kunai to the floor and began to beat on his opponent just because he could. He was a real piece of shit.

Touji stopped his punch mid-swing and scoffed. Touji got up from on top of Yuto and walked away without a care in the world.

Taro looked at Touji's retreating form with disdain before going to check up on Yuto.

Yuto pulled himself off the floor, wiping the blood from his nose, seeing Taro approaching.

Yuto gave a half-hearted smile. "It's like you said, I'm perfectly fine," Yuto said dryly before walking away, plopping down on the floor.

Taro looked at Yuto's form on the floor and sighed.

"Tests over, report to the living quarter! The leaderboard will be posted tomorrow in the downstairs lounge!" Taro said before vanishing with a bodyflicker.

Yuto, on the other hand, was ignoring Hikari's uplifting words beside him.

He heard approaching footsteps, seeing Anko and the red-eyed beauty approaching.

He sighed, his face dull and unsatisfied after his defeat.

"fuck my life!" he thought.
