Chapter 80 - Chapter 79: Who Invited HIM to the Chūnin Exams?!

Early the next morning, Hidan and Konan arrived at the usual training spot of Team 8.

The squad was already gathered—after all, every one of them had woken up to the same news:

The Chūnin Exams begin today.

"Yo! Everyone came early," Hidan said casually.

As he approached, he spotted Kurenai-sensei standing to the side. His eyes lit up immediately.

Without hesitation, he walked over, leaned in way too close, and murmured:

"Kurenai-sensei… you're here early today too."

Kurenai's face flushed instantly. She shifted away in panic—her students were watching!

This man was absolutely shameless!

"H-Hidan-sensei also came early…" she managed, voice awkward and stiff as she stood to the side, terrified he'd try anything in front of her students.

"Good morning, Sensei!"

"Hidan-nii… Konan-nee, good morning!"

Kiba bowed politely. Shino nodded. Hinata greeted softly, her pale eyes completely locked on Hidan from the moment he arrived.

At this point, Hinata looked more like a refined young lady than a kunoichi—soft-spoken, well-mannered, beautifully dressed, and shy by nature.

To Hidan, it was the perfect result of his "education."

No trace of a battle-ready ninja at all—just a princess who looked like she wandered out of a storybook.

What Hiashi thought of this… no one knew. But he had never shown up to complain, so maybe he'd simply given up.

Hidan cleared his throat, straightening with a surprising hint of seriousness.

"I came before the Chūnin Exam today to explain something important."

Shino and Kiba exchanged suspicious glances.

Important? From him? Now?

Since he joined the village, Hidan had been the definition of an irresponsible teacher...

If Kurenai-sensei weren't covering for him, they'd have had to self-study everything.

And their clans had specifically warned them:

don't provoke Hidan.

If possible, even befriend him.

Meanwhile, Hinata was kidnapped daily for walks, snacks, tea shops, and harmless wandering.

They weren't even sure if she remembered how to throw a kunai anymore.

"Ahem…"

Hidan saw the dissatisfaction on their faces (and Akamaru's too). Well, fair enough.

After using Genjutsu as their "entry exam," he basically stopped showing up.

Okay, fine. He'd fix that today.

After a dramatic pause, he said:

"Hinata will not participate in this Chūnin Exam."

Shino: I knew it.

Kiba: @#$%…

Akamaru: Woof. (Translation: This man is insane.)

Hinata: "Ehh?"

Kurenai: "Hidan… are you sure?"

Hidan continued calmly:

"She won't participate—because I'll be taking her place.

I'll enter the exam for her.

Also… I'm the proctor this year.

The entire exam is under my supervision."

"…"

They were speechless.

Except for Konan and Hinata, everyone had the same exact thought:

They had never met a more shameless teacher.

The clans had warned them that Hidan was potentially Kage-level (though intel was incomplete)…

But none of them expected him to actually enter the Chūnin Exam.

A Kage-tier monster participating in an exam meant for Genin?

That wasn't an exam—

that was a massacre.

"A-Ahem… Don't stare at me like that. I'm technically not even a Genin. I've never taken the exam. It's perfectly reasonable for me to participate," Hidan said with a totally fake modesty.

Shino, Kiba, and even Akamaru all looked away at the same time.

Technically true—Hidan had no forehead protector and never took any ninja test.

But come on.

He should at least know his own absurd power level.

And the trauma of his Genjutsu "lesson" still haunted them nightly.

Konan, of course, was the mastermind behind this.

Since Hinata currently had zero combat ability, better to let Hidan play.

The exam was going to be chaotic anyway.

"So it's settled. I've already registered Team 8's slot with me taking Hinata's place."

Hidan clapped his hands decisively.

The boys and the dog could only nod helplessly.

Once Hidan decided something, it might as well be prophecy.

Hinata, meanwhile, simply nodded with a demure smile.

A proper lady didn't fight.

A proper lady listened to her Hidan-nii without question.

Kurenai pressed her fingers to her forehead and silently prayed for the poor Genin who would be forced to face Hidan in the exam arena.

"Alright! Let's go! Chūnin Exam time!"

Hidan announced cheerfully.

"…Yes," Shino and Kiba answered weakly.

Akamaru let out a defeated whine as he rode on Kiba's head.

And so, with heavy hearts and one overly excited immortal leading the way, Team 8 headed toward what would become the most traumatic Chūnin Exam in Konoha's recorded history.

--

The news that Hidan was going to participate in the Chūnin Exams wasn't something he hid.

No...he marched straight into the Hokage's office and told the Sandaime and every exam coordinator himself.

After all, he was taking the exam on Hinata's behalf, and he needed her to receive the Chūnin qualification... because she was the girl he personally "trained" into a refined young lady.

No way he'd let "his Hinata-hime" get looked down on, right?

He wasn't wrong to think that.

But the moment the Hokage and the other proctors heard his declaration, their brains exploded.

Hidan… taking the Chūnin Exam…

as a candidate?!

This was a natural disaster disguised as news.

A storm on a sunny day.

A village-level emergency.

But even though they were shocked, none of them could stop him.

First reason: Who in the village could actually control Hidan?

Second reason: even the Hokage didn't object.

Not because he agreed...but because he knew it was pointless.

Sarutobi sighed internally.

He'd come to understand Hidan's nature—

once that man had an idea, nothing in the world could restrain him.

What made the Hokage truly helpless was what happened that morning:

Hidan had stormed into his office with a serious face and said:

"For better monitoring, I've decided to join the students' lineup.

If I observe from the inside, I can prevent accidents."

Sarutobi stared at him.

What am I supposed to say to that?

You're already the proctor—now you're gagging me with logic?!

If I complain, you'll just ignore me anyway!

So, in the end, Hidan smoothly slipped himself into Team 8, put on his signature Tengu mask, and entered the exam hall as one of the "mysterious candidates."

Inside the Examination Hall

Shino, Kiba, and Akamaru followed behind him with the expressions of condemned prisoners.

They sat at their assigned seats… right next to their teacher.

There was nothing more painful than taking an exam with Hidan sitting beside them.

Within minutes, all the candidates had settled in.

Hidan glanced around lazily.

Most of them were filler characters—kids here to be eliminated.

The true contenders were Orochimaru's people, the Sand trio, and Konoha's elites.

According to Hidan's memory, the first exam would already claim lives, simply because of one man:

Morino Ibiki.

Right on cue, the scar-faced, towering examiner stepped into the room. He carried the aura of a man who would never bend.

Morino Ibiki.

Head of Torture & Interrogation.

A veteran of the ANBU's darkest corners.

An old acquaintance of Hidan.

But the moment Ibiki entered the room and laid eyes on one of the seated candidates…

His soul left his body.

His eyes became two white circles.

His jaw dropped wide enough to fit a shoe.

His entire face screamed:

"Why the hell is HE here?!"

Because sitting among the Genin was:

A huge man.

Silver hair.

A tall, muscular build.

And a familiar Tengu mask.

Ibiki froze.

That mask.

That physique.

That silent, oppressive aura.

Oni.

A monster every ANBU operative knew by reputation.

Some whispered that under that mask was not a person, but a skeleton in human skin—

a walking omen of death.

The examinees watched their iron-blooded, terrifying examiner stand frozen like a ghost had grabbed his spine.

Their mental image of "Ibiki the Unshakable" shattered instantly.

Some candidates even snickered.

So this is Konoha's feared interrogator? Pathetic.

Hidan sneered behind his mask.

Of course Ibiki was shocked...he'd been assigned as the proctor at the last second, and he wasn't stupid.

He knew exactly what kind of reputation Tengu-mask Hidan had in the ANBU files.

"The exam begins! Distribute the papers!" Ibiki barked, recovering quickly.

He explained the brutal rules, and moments later, the cheerful attitudes of the examinees evaporated.

Faces twisted in despair.

The test paper landed in their hands like a death sentence.

They all had the same thought:

Is this REALLY meant for humans?!

Only a handful realized the true purpose behind the rules...intelligence gathering, covert extraction, copying information without being caught.

Sasuke's Sharingan.

Gaara's sand eye.

Tenten's reflective mirrors.

Every candidate began using their abilities in secret.

Even so, people were swiftly disqualified and dragged out.

Some physically kicked out by Ibiki himself.

Meanwhile, Hidan stared at his test paper with dead eyes.

He had 10,000 curses in his head.

What the hell is this garbage?!

He wasn't even a trained shinobi originally—

his "basic ninja knowledge" was basically nonexistent.

But what truly pissed him off was the second question.

A special shuriken thrown in an arc.

Calculate the parabola.

Math.

Math.

MATH.

Is Ibiki trying to make me relive childhood trauma?!

Who the hell gives MATH QUESTIONS in a NINJA EXAM?!

Hidan snapped.

He stood up abruptly. Everyone turned.

They all thought he was going to quit.

Instead—

He walked straight to Ibiki, slapped the exam paper into his hands, and said:

"Do this. If you get anything wrong, you know what happens. Heh."

Ibiki froze.

The entire exam room froze.

Then Hidan just turned around, walked back to his seat, leaned back, and relaxed like he was sunbathing.

The entire room:

"…HUH?!"

Worse than that—

Ibiki…

actually filled out the answers.

Seriously. Meticulously.

Like a terrified student doing homework for a mafia boss.

Every candidate's soul shattered.

What kind of cheating is this?!

You're not even pretending!!

DO YOU THINK WE'RE NOT HUMAN?!
